Terrific match. We watched this in the pub in Aviemore. There was a table of England supporters near us who were obviously having a great time during the first half, but went a bit quiet when we came back. At the final whistle, I bumped into one of them on the way to the bar and in a strong Yorkshire accent I got -"Ere lad that were a fookin crackin' game. Best match I've seen int long time" I agreed, we shared a handshake. No animosity, no moaning, no ifs or buts - just solid appreciation for the game. This is still my favourite Scotland match by a long shot, even though it was a draw.

I am Scottish but live in the SW of England (all my life). I enjoy the banter and can stand my ground. I was busy telling everyone in the pub that it was only Scotland B as there were so many injuries. Then the turnaround and all hell broke loose. Great day in the Digby Tap in Sherborne, great rugby banter and great following a sport where you can have that banter without a fight. I will never forget that match, I doubt I will see another like it. It was a 3 day hangover.

I'm a Scot who lives in the English Midlands. I remember my pals consoling me coming up to half time and telling me at least McInally had salvaged a consolation try. By the end, they were all cheering England scraping a draw... says a lot about their second half performance. Fair play to my mates they were good about it and I got bought a few pints after the game.

He got away with 2 at least yellow carded "tackles" against South Africa and Australia which were crucial as they stopped what would likely have been tries. Farrell has proved fragile against Scotland since this game and the recent win for Scotland just rubs it in more. I watched this game online to a Gaelic commentary. I couldn't understand a word, but the last 45 minutes of the game would be the most exciting I have seen. Oh, except the 96-19 drubbing of the Waratahs by the Crusaders in 2002. Andrew Mehrtens converted 13 of the 14 tries scored that day.

@@Carlo42 He was/is the 'poster child' of English Rugby, been getting away with stuff like this for years. Now don't get me wrong, I'm old enough to remember and celibrate 'hard rugby'. I have witnessed plenty of 'dubious' tackles, Finlay Calder and David Leslie weren't shy about 'putting it about a bit' as they say. What grinds my gears is we are now in a time where 'player safety' is paramount, or so they say. I've seen plenty of players get Reds for stuff that was, wrong place, wrong time and accidental at worst. He's nasty with it and appears to be made of teflon. I was in Edinburgh that day watching it in a pub. Walked out disgusted before half time as it looked like Scotland were going to get hammered by 50 plus points. Heard a cheer from the pubs and thought, “a consolation score”. Then another and another. Rushed back to my hotel to see the last 30 minutes. I heard that the Scotland players trudged back to the dressing room at halftime fully expecting a real telling off from Townsend. Allegedly a group of senior players told Townsend to be quiet. They said to him that they had been playing to his instructions for 40 minutes and look where that has got them. In the second half we will play the game our way; the rest is history.

I would say 'jaw dropping' is the perfect description. Firstly England score 31 unanswered points, then Scotland score 38 unanswered points and 4 minutes into 'overtime' England steal a draw. Had Scotland held on for the win it would have been the biggest comeback win in test history. Yeah I think the headline is pretty accurate.

And the flaws of the rush defence with big backs are exposed. Can’t negate a flyhalf standing with depth if the loosies are committed to the ruck, and can’t turn at speed once the line is broken. It’s just a wall. And a wall only needs one breach…

I'm not sure England have really ever recovered from this game. Maybe even since Culcutta 2018

Wonderful match! Bonkers of course but pure entertainment……..love Hastings/Nicol (interchangeable nonsense) comment…..” England have pressed the self-construct button…..” aye. Right.

Scotland should beat the AB's next time they play. Ireland ended their drought in no uncertain terms. Maybe it's Scotland's time to do the same.

The only way a rugby match would shake the world is if there was a disaster while it was being played. The same is true for any sport. It's just for fun, everyone.

Wow , today 9th March 2024 was the real shock. Congratulations to Italy for doing what England failed. They beat the multi League of Nations side Scotland . I fail to see how you can have much pride in winning with an international side. Viva Italia.
