I have spent an embarrassingly excessive amount of time solo cueing 3v3 in lower gold and upper silver and can confirm what you say is true, plus I can add to it. Passing to tm8's in silver is a pointless endeavor. They can't hit it. When I have had forays into silver (usually caused by my own pighead behavior when I won't stop playing on a bad night), I find I have to carry to get back out of silver into gold. In lower gold, you can make passes, and they can be simple "around the corner" passes. tm8's will look for it, they can hit it, and defenders struggle against them. In the higher gold ranks, that won't work anymore. The passes have to be a little distance away from the net to be effective, so they have to be more like back wall passes that place the ball where a goalie has to decide whether he wants to challenge a 50-50 a little distance in front of his net or not.

@@ceilingunlimited2430 if you want out of the division just stick in goal. If you are decent in goal, maybe by practicing in all star goal keeper training, you will stop everything in matches. That way you can let your 2 ball chaser mates rush and they might score, unless the other team has a smurf you should win most games down there. Once in Dimaond, rotate unless you see ball chasing or no rotations, then I tell them im sticking in goal since they are chasing or not rotating or out of position

@@jasonstarrising It still does work, you just have to take into consideration that 4 in 10 games might be smurs in the other team, likewise 2 in 10 you might have a smurf. So if these games are going to be losses just use the experience against better players to brush up your skills. If you can keep it 0-0 for 4 minutes you might find your noob team gets a goal in the last minute or extra time. You have to know when you push out of your goal, not much is the answer, unless he has ball on his roof and he driving towards you, if there is a moment you catch him out of control then push him and 50/50 the block, or drive towards attacker half way, turn around and drive back towards your goal, then pre-empt his flick over you and try and save it driving backwards, visualize him aiming for top corner, this is how you counter smurfs who can do good flicks (1v1 skills), other smurfs driving up wall for air dribble, will usually flip reset and change the ball direction last second, you need to get up early, from the time he leaves the wall and time he scores you want to meet him in the middle, he will try and go under you, if he goes above you he is more likely to miss his shot on goal. Because the flip reset makes their car drop quite a bit, so get your angle right as you going up. But if you are solid in goal and can keep it 0-0 for 5 minutes, its lucky dip if your 2 team mates are good enough to get the goal. Sometimes you can powershot on saves and score at the other end. Sometimes I push to the mid-line but you have to know when they might powershot and hit it over you. Even in D1 they dont understand defence properly, sometimes they can rotate but its rare.

Great stuff. One thing during the last segment that I didn't see Spider mention during the segment where his team left the opponents too much space that really helped me when I figured it out; the person with next touch needs to contest the space to force the opponent to touch the ball away or into a 50 to kill the 'danger' they possessed while the other sits back and reacts to what happens from that. Once again, good video and maybe this makes sense to someone and helps.

Good analysis from the Champ gameplay. Ive been stuck at champ for years already and am a notorious "lingering/waiting" player.

sometimes in 3's, if one of us is attacking, i sit on the half way line with my team mate also on half way line, he takes one side and i take the other. Then if the ball gets cleared one of us picks it up and the other either rotates or pushes depending on what the forward guy does. He should rotate instead but they dont always do it. This way is messy but if you have team mates who dont rotate this works as a hybrid

This analisys is great! I've ranked up from gold3 to plat2 in just one day. (been g3-plat1 for 3 months) Found some mistakes in my backpost rotation and tried to fix them. 👍 Best part was about changing tactics looking on teammate actions. And not to attack the ball if the enemy is closer / moves faster than me. (and I still am very bad at dribbling and wall riding. much worse than others at my rank)

bro ur so spot on champ rotations but i would also like to add the "scenic route rotation" i see alot in champ this is when ur tm8 loses the kickoff leaving u in a bad spot and instead off rotating straight back to net they grab the mid boost nearest to them and then to instead of going straight to goal they will boost for the corner boost and of course by the time they reach that corner boost the opponents already destroyed u with a 50 and the ball is in the net. The scenic route rotation is very similar to "lingering" as in both scenarios the person is just watching the play unfold without actually trying to get into the play. He's just enjoying the scene.

I say this all the time. Haven’t been playing that long, but made it to plat 3 strictly with randoms. I’m not the best, but I figured out rotation without videos - it’s truly common sense. It blows my mind the people in plat that are all over the place, and when you say something, their rebuttal is “score”, not realizing that proves my entire point lmao. I did learn about back post defense here. I regularly bring myself to goal when rotating, but didn’t know that back post was that much effective. Great video.

My issues are explained so well by this video. I do not spend as much time on the practice field as others do. When I play RL I am mostly just playing 3 v 3 matches. I have more sports athletic background than most RL players. These things result in me having a good idea of the strategy and tactics of rotation but comparatively poor mechanical skill. 90% of RL players frustrate the crap outa me since they do not understand rotation at all. I notice my goals, assists, and saves, are relatively balanced numbers. I see teammates all the time that spend almost no time rotating into defense and the majority of the goals opponents score are either because I rotated into attack position or because I missed a tough save (often due to 2 or 3 v 1 since many players refuse to play defense at all, funny that players who spend the least amount of time in defense spam "what a save" the most when a teammate misses a save). I wish they would understand that all players should seek to play defense around one third of the time in 3 v 3. Also defense does not mean goalie. How you play defense is not as important as having the correct mindset and position to thwart the opponents.

Im a gold and i do backboard possitions and its extremely helpful, would recommend for sure, its easy and really good

I wouldn't call myself a pro in Rocket League but neither an amateur, but the lack of understanding rotation of teammates (when playing with randoms) is why I've lost so many games. I can't count it anymore who often the ball was stolen, when I was controlling the ball starting dribbling. But as I was watching this vid, one thing came up to my mind for a suggestion for a tutorial: what about a tutorial about how to correct a mistake during a match. Bob Ross (I hope you know who he is) made a vid about painting where he called mistakes "happy accidents", and how to correct them so they still looked good. One example for Rocket League: let's say I am trying to jump straight up to the ball because I thought I could get it but then realizing I am going to to miss it, which action should then be followed by me so I don't put my team in that big trouble. Or another situation: I am going to to a 50 50 situation but lost that, what should be the next move (of course it depends on the situation). I hope I described it as precise as possible.

i'm diamond 3, and now i only find champ or player that was champ. Until now i found only player that are really ball chaser, they don't rotating. I'm sure that i'm not the best player, but i'm sure that I have a rotation similar to champ, because when I saw that I can't go again, I only go back on difense, unlike the other diamond that do casually touches, just so I didn't touch the ball.

It's a question that's been bugging me, when allies don't rotate, am I better to stay defense and save a few shots a game, or am I better going offensive and triple comiting to plays? Because without everyone doing rotations, chaos wins and rotations just break down. Platinum here, just wishing to make the best of a bad situation.

Im on plat and when some team mate comes at me when I have the ball or when I am going to the ball, constantly, I immediate quit a winning attitude and just let them play by themselves

I've been between gold and plat and I see, and do, those mistakes as well though I try to notice them and not make them as often as I used to. But one more mistake I see very often is people just abandoning the play altogether. I can't begin to count the number of times I have centered the ball, only one defender on net but both my teammates are on our side of the field with no play whatsoever.

that's actually on you, you need to check to see where your teamates are heading. You should think about every intention you have when your going to the ball. if your centering it to no one, all you're really doing is allowing your teamates to get some boost, and also passing the ball to the other team. (in higher ranks they will score on u if u do that). Pass it to teamates dont blame them.
