Ronnie Sax -, Dick Pearce, Flugel-Martin Drew, drums, -Ron Mathewson, Bass- John Critchenson, Piano. Dick is the only one still with us! (even Ted Rogers has gone!) To those expressing amazment that this ever occurred, (me too, I don't remember it at the time) Ted Rogers was a great Jazz fan and I suspect he had a lot to do with getting the band on, probably with quite a resistance. Kudos for Ronnie et al to play so uncompromisingly!

Odd that Ted Rogers would feature jazz on a game show on itv but I take my hat off to him. It was a good move.

Funny that for a Saturday evening TV programme they chose a pretty heavy duty bop number and played it as such as well. Happy days watching all those guys live many, many times.

Incredibly, Ron never seemed to value his own playing as much as the rest of us did. He worshipped the great American players but he was the equal of most of them. After all he played with the amazing Tubby Hayes abdxwas not overshadowed by him imo. And I still re-tell his jokes to people who are too young to have heard them live! Eg. " My parents ran the only jewish pub in the East End, The kosher horses". You had to be there.

You should have gone to Ronnie Scott's club and heard the 10 minute version back in the day. This 3 minute job is for the benefit of the masses on a Saturday night game show and not catering especially for the jazz lover.
