The Ron DeSantis You've Never Met | Presidential Candidate and Florida Governor | EP 402

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with the 46th governor of Florida and 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis. They discuss his working-class upbringing, the fundamentals of team building, the drastic need for government reduction, and how Florida might work as a national blueprint post 2024.
Ron DeSantis is an American politician in the Republican party. He is a veteran from the U.S. Navy and is currently serving as the 46th governor of Florida (since 2019). DeSantis was initially a member of Congress elected in 2012, 2014, and 2016. He was a founding member of the Freedom Caucus, a Right-wing congressional caucus formed by conservatives and Tea Party members alike. DeSantis was an avid supporter of Donald Trump during his first campaign and is now running squarely against him for the 2024 presidential elections.

I think it would only be cool if he could ask his own questions, ask follow up questions and expand on their points. If we can get it down to two-Desantis and Christy, I think that would be an awesome time to bring him in for this purpose. But him just being a standard moderator wouldn't be worth it.

I've been a Conservative since 1984. I've been watching Ron DeSantis through his Congressional Career, Governor, and now Presidential candidate. Although polls keep saying he's far behind trump, what I see on the ground is very different. He was one of the original Freedom Caucus members & Tea Party Congressmen. Rush Limbaugh once said that if anybody deserved an honorable Rush Limbaugh Institute degree, it would be Ron DeSantis. If people believe the lies about him, they're doing a great injustice to themselves and the rest of us. We need a man like this, who already knows what needs to be done, and knows how to do it, in the white house, to undo the damage that's already been done. God bless you both.

He needs to show he’s real and just be a guy hanging out with the interviewer and not so stiff - especially to young people, authenticity is really important right now.

Only if they were there to promote him like Peterson who thinks he knows what's best for America's political needs yet he's rejected in Canada for is role in changing Canadian politics. He sued the government only to have them legislate against free speech in another way. He couldn't stop the Canadian government from tyrannizing Canadians & yet he's trying to tell us how to avoid tyranny by propping up a known tyrant (Ron DeSantis) whom a huge majority of us rallied around right after he was elected. However Floridian's began giving the insider story & pointed out the hypocrisy & malevolence that DeSantis had engaged in. At that point his approval rating first plateaued & then dropped (while I was still defending him) until we all realized that once the truth about DeSantis came out through US based "crowd-sourced" intelligence that proves very conclusively that Peterson is backing a fraud who's fooled Peterson into believing he's a better choice. Not even remotely is he any of that. Sooner or later someone will clue Peterson in but if nobody does - Peterson will find out soon enough.

Thanks very much Dr Peterson for conducting this interview with Governor Ron DeSantis. Watching in the UK and I enjoy following US politics as much as time allows. Next year's Presidential election is such an important one. Governor DeSantis comes across very well. Nothing has been handed to him on a plate and he has worked very hard to get where he is now. He is articulate and seems to know all the facts about different topics. He has clearly been a good Governor for the famous state of Florida, much loved by many British tourists too, but I have yet to visit the USA. It is on the bucket list of course. I know that Donald Trump likes to mock Governor DeSantis , calling him Ron DeSanctimonious, which is funny, but the Governor seems to be a fine young man who gets things done. The world needs influential people like Dr Peterson and Governor DeSantis, men from working class homes who have reached the top through pure hard work, intelligence, willingness to learn and grow as they go along. We are all sick of being ruled by the wealthy, entitled elites who appear to have been brainwashed at the universities. In the UK now, it is the working class people who give me the most hope. I talk to men, and occasionally women, locally from high-skilled working class backgrounds and they are the people who doubt mainstream media, who try to find information from alternative sources, who question things, who have not always had any mRNA vaccines where they doubt the safety and efficacy of those jabs, who think for themselves in other words. Sadly I never had children myself, but if I did and they were young adults just starting out in life, I'd probably encourage them to go into skilled jobs that didn't need you to be an arts or humanities graduate, or encourage them to do STEM subjects where it is harder for the woke brigade to dumb down and ruin the courses. I'm sure they'll be telling us that maths or physics are racist and sexist next, but it is clearly harder for them to ruin STEM courses than it is in subjects such as History, English and American Literature, Sociology, etc. Governor DeSantis came across really well. Wishing him well in the election next year. I loved Dr Peterson's comments about Canadians loving to escape the long, cold winters and go to Florida, plus I liked Governor DeSantis's idea of having Dr Peterson conduct the Presidential debates. He really would do a great job, he is such a brilliant interviewer, it is yet another one of his many talents. I can just picture Dr Peterson in the middle between Trump, Kennedy and Biden or DeSantis, Kennedy and Biden, or whatever combination the USA ends up with next year. It would be great to hear, I'd tune in for sure.

I hope he keeps doing more stuff like this and show his relatable side and not the more manicured, super-professional politician side as much - it’s isn’t relatable, especially when most people hate politicians these days - our culture craves authenticity right now and Ron should capitalize on that and just be more real like he is here - his campaign team has not been serving him well up to this point, he really should’ve been doing these interviews early on. For example, PBD reached out to Desantis’ team earlier in the year, a couple times, and never heard back.

@The1SSGrant That's where you do not understand him at all. He isn't a politician, he's a civil servant. And as such he respects his role in the fashion it was created instead of the joke it has become, therefore he treats both his current position and aspirational position with the same level of dignity and candure that it should be. People being stupid is not his whim to bend to, if we are to advance as a people we must first go backwards to find the respect once afforded to politicial positions regardless if even back then the men who held them did not deserve that respect themselves. To continue to treat this like a circus will result in it STAYING a circus or worse dwvolving further. Popularity contests are for the lowest grade of people, and it is reprehensible to think that people cannot or will not respond to well measured respectful adherence to the station that which the presidency represents. Give people more credit before you forget that pigs can become boars and sheeps lions if treated as such

@@victorkreig6089 speaking of not understanding, you should re-read my comment. I didn’t call Desantis that typical “politician” type. I know he’s a civil servant, that’s the job description and he’s embodied it… He shows that professional and manicured version of himself more - that is just true. What I said is also true… you don’t have to LIKE that it’s a popularity contest to see that it is relevant in this election cycle for people to feel authenticity from their leaders and to feel connected to them, we have more visibility due to social media now than ever and just because you hate a circus, as I do too, doesn’t mean that it isn’t relevant and important for leaders to know how to use new lanes of communication effectively. You seem to be on some pedestal about something I didn’t say and putting words in my mouth which is disingenuous or you just aren’t understanding because clearly you are worked up about it and have a strong opinion, which is fine. How you somehow equated people wanting to trust their leaders with stupidity and disrespect of office is beyond me…. People can respect the office of president and still understand that knowing how to use the media is vital to reaching a mass audience…. Not having the wherewithal to go on PBD’s podcast earlier in the year hurt his campaign… I’m saying things in support of him and what would help him more… so please do better if you’re going to tell someone what they do not understand when you so easily read something into a text that isn’t there. I can acknowledge the ridiculousness of the circus AND hold respect for an office AND see that Ron needs to continue to improve his communication strategy if he wants to beat Trump.

Would you explain some points you find good about him? I thought I liked him due to the change ive heard in Florida, but hearing him speak and campaign has turned me way off from seeing him as a President. One example is he constantly states he served with the Navy Seals any time he can. 3x on the first debate I recall. He was a JAG. Why would he try to ride off laurels of SEALs if he is good enough as is? I explain my service not others I was around when I speak or am asked about my background. Its a juvinile move, his debate with Newsom showed his childish debate style (Newsom is infuriating.) But he is not ready.
