Perfect Stones. So evocative!
What a classic!!!!
One of their best and most authentic Chicago blues covers...this is where they proved their blues pedigree and Mick doesn't seem to be imitating or signing w/affectation, just singing the blues in his own inimitable way!

Brian was in the band first but he was pushed out as front man by Mick and also Keith. He got depressed, took way too many drugs and that was it. They told him he was out. Maybe he drowned or maybe somebody helped him drown. Tragic either way. A natural talent for music was he.

When Andrew Loog Oldham became their manager, he changed the whole dynamic of the Stones. His part in undermining Brian Jones can not be ignored. He wanted the band to write and perform original music, not just blues covers.
From this to all the utter shite after 74 its sad the stones before this date were superb after pathetic never recorded anything worthwhile after 74 Emotional rescue Steel wheels etc truly pathetic But this is right on the money prolific singles band 60s into early 70s but sorry it should have stopped there ✌️❤️🕊

OK, early sixties.. the Beatles, ..so, so great. Did love them but then heard this song with the Rolling Stones on the Red Skelton tv Show. OH MY!! I was seriously hooked. Had one Beatles album (White Album), but had eight Stones albums. Sorry Beatles, love you but when I'm chillin', Stones all the way.

This, of course, is an old blues standard, and they make a very good job of it. The track is greatly enhanced by Brian Jones' slide guitar and it reflects the group's development.

It IS a blues song written - by Willie Dixon, (tho' the 'rooster' theme goes back a long way), and first recorded by Stones' favourite, Howlin' Wolf. BTW - I agree it's a brilliant track!

Authentic Rolling Stones sound ,very very nice !!! 🔝🔝🔝
The first time I heard this song was on this album. Along with 'Down the Road a Piece'. Oh those great 60s'.
Man, must be at least 35 years since I listened to this pearl of a cover. Like Nevets Arzaz said in a reply to a posted comment further down, da boys certainly did it justice. I first heard this circa 1966 when I was a wee lad of 8. This started my journey of blues that continues to this day. I didn't know it was a Howlin' Wolf original at the time. And the rest as they say is history. I don't plan to end my journey anytime soon👌👌👌👌👌👌👌 I've heard a few covers but I might give it to the Stones, only by a nose though, over Luther Allison and Otis Rush for example.

Willie Dixon arranged and wrote. First popular recording was of course the inimitable Howlin' Wolf in 1961. What made Keith a genius was his knack for hooks like Brown Sugar and Jumpin Jack Flash.
Here in 2021.

Thanks for your reply. As I say it was a mixture of things. a combination coming together at a specific time in history. Do you notice when the brass is added on how it ramps it up again? It is said of Brian Jones that he could pick up nearly any instrument, muck about with it for ten minutes then be able to knock out a tune.
All i can say is F***** WOW GOT IT BLASTING IN HANNAGANS BAR!!! I DARE ANYBODY TO COME UP BETTER!!!!!!

That’s a bit cliche at this point. I’ve been a fan since 1967 and was a member of the Brian Jones fan club as a kid. But you know Brian was talented and gave them a lot but he was very destructive to himself and others. It’s too bad he could’ve still been along for the ride. But they had some unbelievable albums with Mick Taylor. Sticky Fingers to Its Only Rock And Roll. Mind you I love Black and Blue too which is Woodys first studio album with them.
Echt gefuehlvoll gespielt...ein tolles bluesstueck❤❤
dont get a lot better
heard the mistake @1:40? rewind it a bit further if you need to. Brian I believe might've messed it up. Either that or Mick went to sing the line a bit too early bc you can just hear Brian on that slide try to catch up.
