The Road to Health is a Bumpy One | Porch Coffee

Welcome to our Weekly Porch Coffee. This week I started focusing on my physical health journey once again. Like many others I struggle to find consistency, often doing well for months on end just to halt progress entirely. As usual, the struggle to find balance in anything is.... a struggle. But, instead of giving up, I am going to give myself grace and keep working on it. I also discuss a few other topics like the podcast and what videos I would like to start making again, and an upcoming yarn sale to which I look forward with much excitement and anticipation. Welcome to porch coffee.

Last week was both overwhelming and life changing. I received my official Autism diagnosis. Although my diagnostician told me early on in the the prosess that is was obvious I was on the spectrum, it still hit me so hard the last session when he sed it out loud. Now I am recovering from a mild burnout but feel relieved and proud 🙂. Your videos have helped me a lot during the process Claire, thank you for wat you do!

@@Pjolter365 I agree with you, being myself is draining but less so than pretending like I have my whole life. I only got diagnosed half a year ago but I had suspected I was autistic most of my life so it was reaffirming to have it validated - just also very confronting and I'm doing a lot of work to understand it and be kind to myself :) Speaking with other people in the community is really helpful to feel less isolated, it's just taking me time

The few days of summer vacation have been ok so far. My son goes over to his AAC and says "shoe" which is his way of saying he wants to go outside. I dont feel comfortable while my husband is at work as my son has eloped before and hes bigger and faster now. I can tell he's bored, so I'm trying to come up with different activities. Just realized that I managed to use there, their, they're in a single sentence.😁 Best of luck to you on your health journey! I've had a crazy two weeks with super high and super low points with family visiting and some drama with my elder generations & bad news in my disability process & it's super hot & the fleas are ridiculously horrid this year and I'm not sleeping and I feel every bug bite. I've been pushing through because there was a disability conference I wanted to attend Friday, my birthday was Saturday, Sunday was my monthly outing and someone I've been missing for ages finally made it.... I had a major meltdown in public at that event on Friday and I'm holding out because I *need* to make it to speak with my primary care doctor today but I'm preparing for a possible full collapse after that or by tomorrow. Grr. It's so exhausting. There are so many things I've told people that I couldn't deal with in the past few weeks and I'd need to get to them later but later is almost here and I'm a bit scared I won't be able to deal with it all now. Howdy there Claire and internet people. Watched the vid early yesterday but didn't get a chance to comment until now. Had to get going on chores and everything else because, well, last week had me and the kiddos all finally on summer break. I spent most of last week with the kiddos, played games, watched videos, listened to music and ignored the world at large as much as I could. I feel so much better after detaching for a few days. I was already behind on pretty much everything and taking the week off set things further behind. But now I have some energy again so it's time to get some things done. I suppose this is my advice to myself as well as everyone else, but don't forget to take a break every once in a while. And hydrate. And eat something good. Laters!

+woodshedtheory *At 胡桃河町日系油童教會 Japanese Christian Church of Walnut Creek (CA, USA), we had our congregational Meeting 9 June.* I didn't capture _all_ congregants on the Hewlett-Packard laptop, as the recording system is still incomplete sans a way to capture nave audio. I've still to acquire bidirectional microphones, condenser or planar-magnetic ribbon, for both lecterns - a backup for capturing the congregants' voices that way.

Hey, there. So relate on the health thing. I hesitate to label it a journey either but I go through periods of being very focused and not at all. I have been targeted on avoiding dairy for the past year or so and that has been kind of sad as a cheese lover but has stuck around since I discovered, yes, I am actually lactose intolerant and feel better without it. I am just beginning on cutting back on sweets. Not so sure how it will be. They make me happy but I can go way overboard as a baker. I am feeling that gotta change feeling. Sigh. Glad for the yarn sale for you! That is so cool! Good to have something that gets you in your groove. Speaking of...I am currently in my groove, surrounded by books, researching for homeschool and finding answers.that we are hopeful will work. Never written an entire curriculum before and imagined it could be daunting, but it actually feeds into a part of me that thrives on words, creating, and especially going outside the box for our unique ways of thinking. I am approaching all things as not just my son's learming journey ( there's that word again. it's a theme. lol) but mine as well. Blessings on your week and happy yarn shopping!❤

So excited to see what yarn goodies you get! I've never been to a Hobby Lobby for the similar difference of values issue. Plus I try to mostly get my yarn secondhand these days, but that sale does sound SO good. Maybe I'll go investigate and make my first Hobby Lobby trip. I'm the same way about health stuff. I get really hyperfocused on eating better and/or trying to exercise more and then often end up burning myself out on it. I've been trying to work on incorporating smaller changes into my every day, but it's hard! Especially when health can be so complicated for all of us. Wishing everyone the best with their efforts wherever they're at

Yay, for the big yarn sale! Hope you get what you want! 😊 My family and I just got back from a week's visit with my mom and other family. Got to go to Chicago too. It was all fun but some parts tiring when we were on the go a lot. We did take "break days "which helped. I tried to be more accommodating to myself this trip which made a difference. Overall I think it all went well.

I'm pretty sure I go through exactly the same thing re: self-care. I've been trying to exercise more, and I've just started a period where I can SEE my executive functioning falling apart. I think it's because of work anxiety - got a conference coming up and I'm meant to be presenting some work I've been doing, but we keep uncovering new requirements from the work, so the deadline keeps intensifying and I feel I'm not making progress. But yes: energy levels crater, exec functioning craters too, I totally get it. Good luck with it, hope you get to an even-keel mode soon.

“Spilled” is the standard American English spelling, and “spilt” is the standard British English spelling of the past tense of the verb “to spill”. However, many Americans pronounce it with a ‘t’ sound, so in protest of our norms, I write “spilt”. I just prefer British spelling for some words.
