On May 7, 1915, the British ocean liner RMS Lusitania was torpedoed by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland, killing 1,198 people. This event, part of World War I, shocked the world and marked a turning point in the United States' involvement in the conflict.
Germany had declared unrestricted submarine warfare, attacking any enemy or neutral ship in the Atlantic and the Lusitania was sailing between New York and Liverpool. The Germans suspected it was carrying war munitions for Britain, making it a legitimate target for the Germans.
What is surprising is that the Lusitania this time traveled without escort, despite Germany's warning of submarine attacks on ships it considered suspicious. One thing that surprised investigators is that within seconds of the impact of the German torpedo, a larger explosion occurred, causing the ship to sink in just 18 minutes. Many maintain that this second explosion was caused by the ammunition the ship was carrying, although there are others who maintain that it was the explosion of a boiler.
The sinking of the Lusitania caused the death of 1,198 people, including 128 American citizens. The deaths of American citizens caused a wave of indignation in the United States, which leaned even more towards entering the war. A year after the sinking of the Lusitania, the United States declared war on Germany.
The sinking of the RMS Lusitania remains a controversial topic, with various theories about the causes of the second explosion. This event marked a crucial point in World War I, influencing the entry of the United States into the conflict and shaping the geopolitical landscape of the 20th century.

¿Te has preguntado si el Lusitania llevaba material de guerra en sus bodegas para los britanicos? Es que la neutralidad es muy variable segun los intereses y ni me va ni me biene pero los alemanes hicieron lo que tenian que hacer.
Es ridículo que los británicos tildaran el ataque de crimen de guerra ,cuando los alemanes marcaron la zona como mar de guerra que entendieron??
Qué casualidades, EEUU entra en guerra contra Alemania, 2 veces, España por hundimientos "raros" de barcos suyos que extraño
Mismo modus operandi que con Pearl Harbour. La embajada alemana sacó a la luz el comunicado que advertía de la posibilidad de que barcos de pasajeros fueran hundidos por submarinos. Los americanos no se lo creyeron. No se advirtió debidamente al Lusitania del riesgo de la presencia de submarinos alemanes. En fin, que es totalmente plausible el sacrificio del Lusitania para justificar la entrada de Estados Unidos en la Gran Guerra.
Abandonaron al barco quitándole la escolta al llegar a Irlanda, zona llena de Uboot, el barco estaba lleno de pólvora y obuses, vamos que lo único que le hizo falta hacer a Churchill fue pintar el casco de amarillo chillón para que sea mas fácil verlo!
En teoría, con mas daños, el Titanic, tardo casi 3 horas en hundirse, eso dice mucho.
Entiendo que la investigación deberían realizarla Alemania. Americanos o británicos no son de fiar nunca

Gracias por informarnos sobre este hundimiento del que muy poco se ha contado. La segunda explosión hace pensar que sería muy plausible que trransportaran munición en el barco.
Nunca pensé que este canal hablaría de un tema que me encanta como los trasatlánticos de principios del siglo XX. Solo una acotación. En la miniatura el barco se asemeja demasiado al Olympic el barco hermano del Titanic.
