The Rise of Skywalker: Ballpoint Pen vs. First Order
Ойындар
A load-bearing costume element is removed and reinvented. New wheels for a new generation of fans. But we kind of liked the old ones.
Paying tribute to Threepio is a kind thing. The galaxy is full of possibilities; by drawing on the depth of what we already know, the lore will lead us to the right stories. It takes less effort and gives a better result.
Somehow, the galaxy will end in a matter of minutes. We can practically hear the seconds ticking down. Can you feel the writer's hand on the dial?

Relegated to “legends”. It’s not about making a good movie. It’s about sending a message.
It's because Disney's writing process probably starts with a checklist: "Who's the hero?" "What's his or her slogan?" "Who are the side characters" "What makes them unique?" "Who's the villain?" "What makes them bad?" "What's the McGuffin?" And they madlib these answers into the stock adventure script.

There's one major flaw in 9. The writers claim 16hrs but fail to account for the days and weeks everyone would have to travel in hyperspace to amass the heroes' fleet at location.
@flamingsickle

To be fair, Lucas played fast and loose with hyperspace in Revenge of the Sith as well. Palpatine got to Mustafar from Coruscant basically right away when that was going from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim. Disney just continued on with that idea that hyperspace was basically instantaneous travel (and then added on the even more egregious offense of making sunlight travel between star systems not take decades or centuries).

@@flamingsickle hyperspace lanes work in a way that makes many convenient writing opportunities, but with makes this particular instance of many ships arriving at the same time impossible. See, some lanes can take you very far in a short amount of time, whereas others could take a week to travel relatively little distance. This is why they fought over hyper space shipping lanes in the clone wars and why wars seem so concentrated most of the time. Hyperspace lanes can be blockaded, and you don’t want to be the side that has to wait weeks for supplies and troops to get to the enemy when the enemy can get theirs to you in a few days.

You clip one in your pocket and carry it around with you while working in a radioactive environment, such as a power plant or missile silo, and then at the end of your shift you use it to see how much cumulative radiation you've been exposed to. They're round to make them easy to plug into a charging socket. In The Mandalorian, we actually do see one being used as an access key to a computer terminal. In the novels they were variously referred to as "rank cylinders" or "code cylinders" and basically were an electronic key officers used to log into computers, access restricted areas, prove their identity, etc. But, just like the stormtrooper helmets that don't filter out poison gas, the First Order takes things the Empire did and then implements them in the most retarded way possible.

The Homeworld music in the back-round, such nostalgia.
Ok, correction. The Executor-class Star Dreadnought (the original super star destroyer) is 18km long, not 8km. I have another suggestion for the sith language. Since we know siths existed during the prequel era it would be possible that c3po had it added. Sya maybe Anakin added the 6 million languages originally but during the clone wars had padme upgrade him to understand sith. Say this language wasnt in his main data base. The person resetting his memory would then not know to wipe this. Instead maybe she just turned it off or something (this idea need fixing yes, but could work). C3P0 said that the files for the sith language were sealed by republic officials by a republic order for the suppression of sith languages (this is the 2nd republic the one in the prequals) its logical to assume that only jedi could access the language which is logical if the jedi (who are not trained to read sith) need assistence if say a sith super weapon is activated or if the sith were being revived by someone who's fallen to the dark side (or if an object containing a sith vestage is found and the sith vestage possesses someone like the incident with the vestage of Darth momin)

"First Order Captain's Medallion" might as well have the same gravitas as "Insane Nazi Captain's Pendant." also nice use of Homeworld OST
Hell March as the background music? You've got my attention.
on thing i wondered about was that secret path to exogol looked like a horror to fly through and i thought it'd destroy the heroes. when the motley fleet of good guys showed up i was amazed they all survived that harrowing trip....and how many would die returning home, and would the evil fleet have troubles leaving too?

I don't think anyone knew what was going on with that plot point. I would accept "it's in a nebula", but this seemed more like a space roadblock. It looked like one red cloud over to the side, not surrounding the whole star system for light-years in every direction. -DZ

They could just go around it. It's just a big red cloud thing in the middle of deep space, there's no need to go through it, yet some still chose to.
Your explanations over the past three videos about the little details of the SW universe makes me want to start up another tabletop adventure. There's just so much to explore and so much story telling potential. Thanks!
This video is so underrated. I would love to see more of this format
Great video, would love to see more like this
Excellent series! Loved every episode
Very interesting. I am glad I stumbled on to this. Personally, I would have went a very different direction than Mr Abrams did. I enjoy this sort of, "how could it have played with in the existing rules" discussion. As this says it's part 3, I would like to have seen a link to part 1 and part 2 in the description. Thanks for taking the time to make this and for sharing it.
I stumbled across this and I'm happy with the results. Subscribed
I wanted R2 to restore 3PO's memory from the very beginning. A true friend would have. Wiping his memory was an injustice. Can you imagine C-3PO with the wisdom of his actual age (like 50ish years, I'm guessing)? I always hated that the one of the characters who had been through it all was always treated with such disdain. C-3PO had seen the fall of two galactic government systems before Poe was spared from being a stain on one of Kes Dameron's socks. Who does he think he is, treating C-3PO like that? He's second generation military. He should know better. Don't disrespect those who have skills you don't, especially if you are relying on them to get where you're going next. I lost all respect for Dameron after Rise of Abrams--I mean Skywalker.
"The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a very unevenly edited book and contains many passages that simply seemed to its editors like a good idea at the time. One of these (the one Arthur now came across) supposedly relates the experiences of one Veet Voojagig, a quiet young student at the University of Maximegalon, who pursued a brilliant academic career studying ancient philology, transformational ethics and the wave harmonic theory of historical perception, and then, after a night of drinking Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters with Zaphod Beeblebrox, became increasingly obsessed with the problem of what had happened to all the biros he’d bought over the past few years. There followed a long period of painstaking research during which he visited all the major centres of biro loss throughout the galaxy and eventually came up with a quaint little theory which quite caught the public imagination at the time. Somewhere in the cosmos, he said, along with all the planets inhabited by humanoids, reptiloids, fishoids, walking treeoids and superintelligent shades of the colour blue, there was also a planet entirely given over to biro life forms. And it was to this planet that unattended biros would make their way, slipping away quietly through wormholes in space to a world where they knew they could enjoy a uniquely biroid lifestyle, responding to highly biro-oriented stimuli, and generally leading the biro equivalent of the good life. And as theories go this was all very fine and pleasant until Veet Voojagig suddenly claimed to have found this planet, and to have worked there for a while driving a limousine for a family of cheap green retractables, whereupon he was taken away, locked up, wrote a book, and was finally sent into tax exile, which is the usual fate reserved for those who are determined to make a fool of themselves in public. When one day an expedition was sent to the spatial coordinates that Voojagig had claimed for this planet they discovered only a small asteroid inhabited by a solitary old man who claimed repeatedly that nothing was true, though he was later discovered to be lying. There did, however, remain the question of both the mysterious 60,000 Altairan dollars paid yearly into his Brantisvogan bank account, and of course Zaphod Beeblebrox’s highly profitable second-hand biro business."

In defense of the "Captain's token", I can imagine that as the Imperial Remnant evolved into the first order, they probably had to deal with a lot of hacking and sabotage via those who were no longer loyal to The Empire. Those cylinders were made by somebody and some of those somebodies were probably more than willing to sell a few illegal cylinders to any rebel (now new republic), criminal, or nerfherder with enough credits. Switching to a completely different security system would have seemed a good idea.
The code cylinders worn by Imperial officers (Original Trilogy)were small pen-like radiation dosimeters.
on the whole sith language thing. I actually think it makes a lot of sense. so I could actually understand old republic compatible parts having sith language but having it restricted. C3PO is cannonically made from scrap parts, meaning older parts. so it could be that "tran-lang 2 model A" which is a compatible part from the old republic has Sith hard coded onto it but has been incripted lock, with a protocol to contact the nearest authorities for reason of tampering and espionage. the reason for its continued existence and ownership is because in the middle republic era it didn't make any sense to remove it as anyone investigating Sith was either a Sith hold out, or was already a licensed historian. the Hutts would have wanted to continue this tradition, because corruption, but also because they too feared the Sith empire, and its remnants. the other thing to keep in mind is that the public view of the Sith, was as a totalitarian and warlike species based empire on a botched peaceful emmesarry mission became a galactic menace. they associate the Jedi, not the Sith order, with instigating the indecent as they wildly spread through the Galaxy and plyed their trade, often in strange and misunderstood ways. the Jedi Order was established from the Jedi council to prevent rouge Jedi from running free and causing problems. they view the rouge Jedi of the sith empire as just that, rouge Jedi. that even though the council banished them it was determined that the only solution to the dark-force tendency to become violent and destructive was to "quite" them to the force. the early Jedi order was Very hated by the republic, but allowed to continue because their abilities made them too dangerous to directly confront and their peaceful nature was a direct benefit to the state both in pacification of force sensitives but also in diplomacy. this was the reason most Jedi never "left the order" that is to say they rarely left their sanctioned spaces where the republic held them to little scrutiny. so hiding Sith from the public and having such a protocol was an anti-propaganda move by the republic. reinforced by the Jedi, it is known that there is of little value of sith artifacts except to either be left alone, or prostrated in museums as a token of truth to the national epic of the republic. as for the keeping of the protocol, there are legitimate reasons for knowing sith as shown and it could have been that you need a license to activate the protocol without having your life endangered. so C3PO having sith preloaded and encripted, actually has some president. the extension is palpatine may have more strictly enforced this, and the new republic continued this because of palpatine himself. this all centered on the innate fear the republic/empire has on Sith propaganda. a close analogy is McCarthyism and the red scare.
Would explain a brief trip to say Wayland and a former Imperial base where the Emperor stayed a while and thus had a limited collection of Sith artefacts and books which could be used to triangulate the coordinates imedded on the artefact they have. Simply running a search on the gibberish might reveal its actual name as the Wayland computer logs may have a listing given the genetic cloning done at both places after all. Sorry I agree this could be easily rectified in episode 7 keep Poe around so Rey doesn't end up having to do everything and thus was less of a Mary Rey. In 8 reveal Holdo was New Republic and Resistance explaining her animosity to Poe and reveal there's a traitor onboard and they need to send a team to Canto Bight to discover exactly how the First Order is tracking them. Then reveal the Empire and then the New Republic started tagging ships with a beacon they can keep tabs on as the New Republic didn't want a Rebel Alliance forming against them despite their actions forcing Han to return to smuggling to acquire ships that aren't tagged so the Resistance can avoid being tracked. Which then explains why Holdo was sent after Leia to bring her back to Hosnian Prime they just ran out of time so wasn't present when Starkilled Base blew up Hosnian Prime. Make the New Republic more of an enemy to the Resistance as Snoke loyalists were effectively taking over behind the scenes so all Snoke needed was to blow up the capital and his pawns would assume control as they wasn't present when the capital was blown up. Sorry really have problems with the ST.
Brilliant video! As soon as you mentioned the super convenient medallion I knew where you were going with this.
These are amazing, I'm so excited for the next one!
The Kennedy speaking 30 seconds in was chilling, with hindsight.
i loved the license key plot point issue you talked about, hilarious. first time viewer, but you got a sub from me
I have always had friends who read the novels, comic books and ship/lore encyclopedias who always left me confused with their explanations (despite having watched the original trilogy in theatres and DVDs 100s of times). This video was great because it was informative and fun, with the added bonus of being able to rewind and pause.
Besides the quality and the point of content, I so appreciate the Homeworld soundtrack on the background! I think it deserves more frequent appearing on the YT.
Praised be the algorithm, this excellent!
Sir, your ideas are higher grade than the ones that sequel writers generated. Great movies could you make!

This was such an excellent examination of the plotlines of RoS. Good Work. You earned a new subscriber
Didnt the Geonosians initially design the Death Star? Also interesting to note, the idea of multiple Death Stars comes from the original draft for VI; there’s even McQuarrie concept art (although obviously it was good they didn’t go with that)
@TheFirstCurse1

I don't think that they designed it, but they built most of it over Geonosis. Star Wars Rebels goes into this. I'm almost certain they were only given the blueprints and told to build it by Dooku. The Death Star looks like nothing even remotely Geonosian.
Star Wars Rebels, which I really enjoyed even though it was more kid-friendly, calls them code cylinders which is close enough, and actually demonstrates their use several times. Agent Kallis (sp?) steals one to use it to implicate another officer, which shouldn't be easy to do but he's an ISB agent (Imperial Security Bureau) so he knows all the tricks. It's two-factor authentication, three-factor if there's a biometric component. Also logs everything you do, so if you do access materials that you technically have permission to access but it's questionable why you would want to, they can find out later in an investigation if something happens.

Does this mean that Anne Frank’s journal exists in the SW universe?

I originally though the Captains Medallion was something like a letter that a general could have given you so you could move past different check points to go someplace (mainly thinking of Liberty’s Kids, but I do recall it having happened quite a few times throughout history).

Use pens for system control.
This guy just showed more Star Wars knowledgeability in the first five minutes of this video than the past three movies did combined. 😂 kudos!
Awesome video. Thanks
This was surprisingly good. Very interesting details on OT droids I've never read about
When c3po says Taking one last look at my friends, i laughed then cried, laughed again, threw up, passed out, woke up, force choked myself until i passed out again, by the time i came to, the movie was over... worth it.

I have to say that the title is terrific. I couldn't help but choose to watch the video - and I wasn't disappointed.
This video almost randomly showed up in my feed - haven't been looking at a lot of SW content recently. One of the best criticisms of this movie. Thank you so much. Now it's time to look at your other stuff.

Is that... bro even at that volume I recognize music from Homeworld! Lit!
The Rebels show clearly showed that you could easily steal a rank cylinder to do low security stuff (almost) everywhere. That seems to be a major difference to other sources and basically dumbs it down to a personalised key. Which would still work, get a key from someone with access to where you want, and unless someone verifies your identity against the key, you're golden
Love it! Well done.
Funny to see how the humble chalk holder became the basis for iconic props. Some of the code cylinders used throughout the movies are based on aluminum chalk holders. A slightly different style was used as the main body piece for the Tenth Doctor's sonic screwdriver.
This vid reminds me of how much I used to adore learning about every possible detail these movies had to offer. I collected every scrap of paper or plastic I could find about these movies as a kid. I was like a movie archeologist. this was back before the ramp up of kerch preceeding the prequels. After the prequels it was impossible to keep up collecting. I hate having to despise something I once loved so much.
Great video!
The rank cylinder is like a modern day military CAC card. The id card all military personnel have that carries biometric data, security clearances, and serves to identify the service member. To use one with a CAC enabled computer system though, you still need a password. Disney Wars data discs is like having a smart phone, with all your personal and private opens open and logged into, with no security on the phone.
Some very nice ideas you have there!
