The Rise of Nostalgic Branding

Ғылым және технология

With Pepsi being the latest brand to revert to a logo from its past, this follows a trend of brands reviving past logos instead of making something new or original.

Even if this channel ends up being mostly about updates of logos/brands as they happen with some constructive feedback, I am totally good with that!

The sad thing is that no one likes to use the mid-2000s logos which I think are the best looking logos for most brands. They had more complex text outlines and shadows as well as equally complex box/bottle graphics. It's a shame that the trend is to not look interesting regardless of its actual appeal. I don't appreciate the minimalist and block designs for absolutely everything, and I wish they would stop.

I think it's kind of the inverse of retro-futurism. Instead of looking at the future from the lens of the past, they're looking at the past from the lens of the future (or rather the present).

My funny story about the co op logo change is that I, of course, noticed their rebrand and was semi analysing how it was a reaction to very flat, minimalist logos being the trend of the time. To me, it looked very modern. So imagine my shock when my dad was looking through old photos and I see the exact same co op sign! I had literally no clue how such an anachronistic sign could've gotten there... Until, of course, he explained to me that the logo wasn't exactly new, and it was actually a return to a previous design. Which makes a lot more sense than time travellers.

The Reebok rebrand is the only one of these I actually like, more logos need to have strong silhouettes with sharp edges. I honestly despise the faux-retro look of these other brands, though. The typefaces they use are so obnoxious, and most of the design elements look nothing like anything from before 2014.

Honestly, the Pepsi 2008? Rebrand was awful, and strayed from what people knew Pepsi to be. So it’s no wonder that they’re reverting back to the classic logo. Same, but less so for Burger King. The circular logo was fine, but come on, the bun logo is objectively better.

RSPCA have just rebranded and I can't decide how I feel about it. I think it needed an update, but it's an awfully dull logo with a weird shaped full stop at the end. Anyway, love your channel!
