The right 3.5 inch Quad setup // Crash resistant with 4k quality

Ғылым және технология

I would like to share my 3.5" quads and setup as I think it will help me stay in the air, record 4k footage while not breaking the bank when crashing.
I'm shure this will also work great with frames like the Grinderino or similar (I made my decisions besides sturdiness on what was available and how easy I can get parts if needed).
Maybe this can also help you.

Great video! 3.5 really does seem like money for consistent and versatile freestyle. 5 Inch for performance, 2-3 inch for portable fun. But 3.5 inch is looking like the all around winner for a one and done. Working on a video right now where I fly my 65mm, 2.5in, and 5in. I came to that conclusion while filming if I remember correctly.

Thanks a lot! I do not regret investing in 3.5" quads. I was already able to improve my flying with them and sim and for me it's a cheaper and less noisy/easier to fly anywere solution. Surely a 5" still flies a bit better/is easier i think. But the benefits overweigh the downsides ;) Looking forward to see your vid 👍

Thanks, I've seen that frame and like the design and thought that has gone into it. But I don't think the 3mm one piece carbon bottom plate is so suitable for concrete or bando crashes? But must be an awesome light explorer quad.

With the Moonlight camera, do you notice any reflections in your recordings or in the goggles while flying? I think it's the ND filter that's causing it, but I'm trying to see if anyone else is having a similar issue. Maybe I was unlucky and got a faulty ND filter. I have a new ND16 on the way, so I'll test that when I get it. Hopefully that's it. Thanks for the video. I'm trying to figure out a 3.5" freestyle setup. That TanQ S looks great, but maybe a little heavy. Let's Fly puts a lot of thought into his designs.

Actually not, cannot remember any reflections. I have used ND8 and ND16 so far with fixed settings. I recommend to also get an ND32 if you want to fly with fixed settings in bread sunlight. Thanks for watching mate. There should be quite a few options for frames (heavy too light) depending on what you like. I got a cased walksnail build that is 230g and the Tanq-s is around 300g.

@@McLogo76 Thanks for the tips and answering my question. It's been driving me nuts. I think it's gotta be a bad ND filter then. There are a ton of options, which is great. Probably going to try and shoot for 160-170 without a battery. So probably not the Tanq-s. I finally subbed as well, so looking forward to more videos.

  • @McLogo76

The Pirateframes Lil Matey 2 I ordered through drone racer fpv (France) were you also can easily get spares etc. / The let's flyrc Tanq-S I did order from the states (rotor riot)... a very controversial topic currently. But the question imo is, do you really want to fly sub250 in Europe as it actually doesn't matter for us regarding restrictions (unlike in the US with remote ID). Both frames or like a Grinderino are not the lightest 3.5" frames and do also fly very well above 250g.

@@McLogo76 at least in Spain, sub250 makes a difference, if I fly a normal 5” in an urban place, I need to keep a distance of 5 meters around whatever wall, object, etc. with under 250 you don’t have that restriction. Obviously you can’t do bad things

Thanks a lot! Normally the missing OSD is either the TX/RX cables mixed up or MSP/Displayport settings not set correct. In betaflight 4.4 and 4.5 you can use the preset to have it set easily. If that is not set correctly the unit will not switch to high power (with stand by mode selected) and record on takeoff will not work and you have no osd.

Do you notice a big difference in flight characteristics between the tang-s and the little matey? the mate is a deadcat frame so im curios about its performance. a second thing of interest is the placement of the walksnail moonlight cam. on most o3 based frames it fits, but it sticks out the front and has little protection. On the matey it looks flush with the front if the ND filter is mounted. Could you move it further back?

  • @McLogo76

    @McLogo76

    16 күн бұрын

If you use the same electronics, motors and presets/settings you will not notice much difference, no. With the Moonlight cam it is the ND filter that can stick out slightly, the cam itself wouldn't. It's the furthest back I can place it with the standard TPU mounts... you could change the stl files to have the holes slightly further back however.

I think they are in stock again. Btw. after flying some more I think you can feel the difference as the squashed X (Tanq-S) has more authority on the pitch/roll axis and the lil matey2 feels a bit more stable with the longer dead cat... but I guess I wouldn't notice if I only had one of them. 😉
