Rahman spoke about RD on couple of occasions - 1. A young boy i know won a comptt in Dubai , which led him to sing with Rahman on stage - when he told Rahman that he wanted to become a music composer, Rahman asked him to listen to Pancham’s music and learn how to use jazz in songs 2. When judging a reality show with Javed Akhtar , Rahman vehemently praised the song Kya hua tera wada for being an angry song yet being melodious and not loud or over the top 3. In an interview, he said songs of 1942 are actually almost like bhajans turned into love songs and love for God is supreme and hence these songs are divine 4. A friend saw Rahman with 2 firangs in Taj Lands End’s cafe , listening to Bade ache lagte hain and he was making them listen to RDs singing in interlude and was loudly appreciating it

Ajay Atul has single-handedly changed the Marathi Music Industry. They brought Marathi Cinema and its music to its glory & also they pulled crowds outside Maharashtra towards Marathi music through their amazing sense of melody and musicianship. When you talk about IMPACT just think, people who don't understand Marathi are fan of their Marathi music & I am one of the biggest examples of it. Even Rahman's early Tamil work only became popular (within non Tamil people) when it was dubbed in Hindi. Listen to their album like Natarang to understand what they can bring to the table. That album has everything for everyone without loosing quality of musicianship. Odd time signatures, Neo-classical interludes, Amazing melodies, Arrangements, selection of Chords, use of percussion is just mind boggling. When I asked my one of my Marathi friends to suggest me music similar to Natarang , He replied - " Nothing in the history of Marathi Cinema (Lavani Music) has been composed, sounded like Natarang. The way Ajay Atul composed Music for Natarang, no one has done it before so you won't find any. Though many musicians/ composers used orchestra in their songs none used it the way Ajay Atul used it for their song Yad lagla. The orchestra throughout the song is simply mind-boggling. It's like a different song within a song. when one listens to it carefully realizes how musically complex it is and yet melodically so easy to remember. People with musical knowledge and those who pay attention to Musical arrangement can understand the level of musicianship that happens underneath / behind the vocal melodies in most of the Ajay Atul Compositions. Most of their compositions are musical universities in themselves. If we dig a little deep and talk about Raagas Just listen to O Saiyyan from Agneepath, how that song changes Raaga midway and comes back to Charukesi again. One more song that comes to mind is "Jiv Rangala". Now about being "Timeless" or "Standing the test of time" are probably the biggest gimmicks we have ever created. If these terms were true RD Burman wouldn't have disappeared in the 80's. Let me give an example - There was a time when RD Burman stopped getting work in 80's, because people weren't enjoying his off beat music. music has changed lot over the years. In the 80's and 90's we had music with fat rhythm and lots of orchestral. Then all of sudden we had Rahman in the 90's (Who practically replaced Ilayaraja Saab in south) brought synthesizer and not only changed the sound but also changed the way of song arrangement. Eg - Roja, Bombay , Thiruda Thiruda. By the time we came to late 90's and 2000's all of sudden non film music (Mostly Pop) started gaining popularity and then suddenly we moved on to remixes where everybody started remixing old songs. By the time we reached 2010 techno-pop, House music, electronic, hip hop started gaining popularity. Now all of sudden people started missing 90's music which they disliked in the early 2000's. Even if you closely study you will realize how the composing style of Rahman in the 90's, 2000's, 2010 till now has changed according to the need of that particular generation. If there was a formula to timeless Music every musician would have followed that but in reality no such thing exists. A casual listener's taste will change as per the trend whereas a serious musician/ music listener will keep listening to what is musically good. If you just want to understand the level of mastery they have achieved in composing orchestral music just listen to the link below. kzread.info/dash/bejne/q6Nop5Kth6rJhpc.html PS - Even Rahman and Shankar Mahdevan are fan of Ajay Atul's music. Many connoisseurs of Music praised Ajay Atul for their abilities. In one of their concerts Hariharanji Said, "Ajay Atul are like combination of ARR and Ilayaraja. Shbuha Mudgal wrote an an entire article just to appreciate their music in Natarang and became their fan. People often think that Ajay Atul are new musicians because they got their opportunity in bollywood in 2011/12. but they released their first album "Vishwavinayaka" in 2001. A devotional album composed in such a way that even Shankar Mahadevan said he never heard anything like that before. These guys are here to stay and I am sure next generation or even current generation will be discussing their music in time to come.

@@MAU9820. I have heard Pinjara, and it’s an amazing album but has nothing on Natarang. Natarang is in league of its own. Ajay plays guitar as well. And since when playing an instrument became a criteria to be a great musician? Ajay Plays Synth, Guitar. Even though I am not Marati I have probably heard more Marati music than you did in last few years just because of Ajay Atul. Ranging from pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar to Pt. It is heartening to see youngsters connecting with R D Burman. Just some corrections. The guitar anecdote of Bhanuda happened when he composed Musafir hoon Yaaro. The greatest point here is he heard the guitar riff, and FIRST composed the last line of the mukhda. It was kind of reverse engineering. Secondly, the comb thing in Padosan is actually a Reso Reso, played by Amrutkaka Katkar. Ranjit Gazmer alias Kanchabhai played the Maadal.

Panchamda was not only the most versatile , he excelled in all genres from Indian Classica,l Folk,Jazz,Latino ,Pop. His childhood was learning Sarod from Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Tabla from Brojen Biswas and then Pandit Shamtaprasad. He also played the Sarod of one line at a tender age for the prelude of his great father in a Bengali song , Ghum Bhulechi Ami later converted into the masterpiece , Hum Bekhudi Mein rendered impeccably by Md.Rafi. His peppiest songs freaks us out, his romantic ballads turn us emotional, his many unique classical numbers mesmerise . He was the absolute champion of rhythms, harmony and melody. Though he brought synthesisers in Bollywood music, he never compromised with acoustic music and had 80 to 100 expert musicians giving out their best . There were umpteen rehearsals those days with singers and musicians and because he also was involved in recording with outstanding sound engineers, his music without today's ample technology , sound fresh at all times. He introduced new rhythm patterns, various polyphonic scales , endless number of percussion and other instruments, complicated chords but never ever compromised with melody and even his antaras are equally melodic. We have many outstanding music directors in Bollywood each with their unique style but the sheer innovative compositions of all genres of song with equal efficiency made the staying power of Panchamda's music immortal. His popularity is growing from peak to peak. A.R.Rahman , SEL are also outstanding in their arena and of course Illayraja is a most revered genius but Panchamda lives forever

RD cannot be compared to anyone. Unfortunately, don't appreciate Rehman much coz his music just doesnt come across. Yes, Rehman did have a very distinct sound, but still only a few of his albums touch your heart. The soul is missing somewhere. Aur jo gaana dil ko naa lage, wo technically kitna bhi sound ho, fayada nahi. Thirdly, Shankar ehsaan Loy don't even deserve to be put in the same pedestal of RD and Rehman kyonki inhone overall aisa kuch out of the box nahi kiya h. Dil chahta h chorkar kuch aur khaas nahi h. Again, guys this is my personal opinion
