The Return of The KTM - A 450 XC-F With A Brutal Past

Ойын-сауық

Today i talk about some of the things i have done to my 450 to make it more rideable, and better performing. This is the first ride on this bike since June, as it had a blown head gasket while i raced a 100 mile mud race.

Yeah! I really like this area because there is so much diversity and freedom. You can ride where you want.

Little Gem shining with light snow covered mountain faces on one side. Still bare on the other. Absolutely beautiful. The only problem with that picture is the long unnatural looking cloud-like vapor structure hanging in the sky. I'll try to get up there tomorrow (TG day) before showing up to the family dinner. Thanks for bringing us your rides and your authentic thoughts and outlook of things important to you.

It's alive!! I got to get me some snow to ride in, we don't have much of that around here.

I really like this bike! Come to idaho and we will ride some snow for sure! It's certainly a lot more difficult than most conditions. Similar to very slimy mud i think.

Great video. I also have a 17 450xc that I plated and put the 6th gear from an EXC, Makes a great bike even better. I used it for all my riding for years before I bought my 17 250xc, I hear what you say about wearing you out, I can ride the 250 all day but start making mistakes on the 450 after a few hours. Still love both bikes but now I have the correct tool for the job. No longer am I stressing about a flame out in the worst possible place. The 450 loves the long steep hill climbs that seem to go on forever. These trails do look like So Cal desert around Jawbone Canyon.

I’m looking at an ‘24 xcf 450 as well. It’s comforting to know it can do a little of it all. I’m hoping to have mine plated even for a little commuting to and from work (non interstate time).

Nice ridge riding. That 450 was made for that area. I grew up riding is So. Cal, and our riding area, Jawbone Canyon, is similar to yours with the elevation changes / big hills. Thanks for sharing.

Very cool! I've never been riding in jawbone canyon but maybe i will have to go. Is it a big riding area or is it fenced off? The area im riding in this video is fenced off, and fairly small.

@@RacerRed it’s fenced off now, but it’s still good sized. You can access other areas from Jawbone like the Barron Ridge area, Dove Springs and the Bright Star trails in the mountains. Overall the riding is good, and when you throw in the access to the other areas you can put in some good long distance rides (75-100 + miles). More accurately you can ride on designated trails to fenced off open areas. Before the commies started to fence the place off it was nothing short of amazing with easily 600 + miles of trails. Due to the fences it cut off a lot of the good stuff (single track), and now most of the trails are more like dirt roads that lead to a few trail networks that are decent. The ones in the mountain are actually excellent. The hill climbs in that are still off the charts, and the biggest and best I have ever ridden or scene on KZread. There are still some outstanding single track to be found, but a lot of it is off the radar if you know what I mean. Most of my riding these days are done in Arizona where I live. If you are ever down this way we ride and camp outside of Wickenburg, and you are welcome to join us. That place, Sonoran desert, is very different from the California desert. It’s rocky, technical and has a lot of single track. We personally ride on and know of about 200 + miles of ST, with a lot more we haven’t done. The only downside is the heat; therefore, our riding season is usually November - April. The winter it’s usually 50-75 degrees. 👍
