The Remandee: Losing liberty and love - BBC Africa Eye documentary
Фильм және анимация
Prisoners on remand - or 'remandees' - in Zambia often face an uncertain future. William Kondowe has been waiting two years for his trial on charges of car theft and murder and, like many prisoners, he has struggled to maintain his links to life outside the prison walls. A radical new project, set up by Prison counsellor Hastings Siamoongwa, tries to help remandees like William. A film by BBC Africa Eye.

The idiot just dddnt want to b real dad to his daughter
A very sad ending, sometimes prison changes people to become worse than they were before.
This was so heart rending! I felt all the emotions in Mutinta's sigh when he asked her if she's happy with her new husband 😔. I was rooting for him, and then he dies at the end. Even more heart rending
crime doesn't pay, that was a very sad ending
Felt really sad for william but it brought some nostalgia about thieves in Zambia they are always very articulate english speakers
And we didn't notice that on 30th March 2020, this young man was shot dead, leaving behind his daughter. This life...

Wow... I didn't see the ending being sad at all. It was hopeful the whole time until it hit you from nowhere! I'm sorry for Christine that suddenly is without a father. May God fill that void and watch over her always!
And for my fellow brothers don't wait until prison teaches you that freedom is one of the most important things. Learn from this plz and avoid anything that can lead you into prison
This is so sad.... oh my god.....
She said, "Am I Your Rib?" WOW!!!! THAT'S THE DEEPEST QUESTION I'VE EVER HEARD anyone ask their mate or potential mate! I got chills when she asked that question. I believe if all women ask themselves and their man that question and he doesn't say, "yes!", then it's time to move on. But that was SUPER DEEP!

We in Africa we understand very well that conversation. I dont know if you are African but any Aftican understand that conversation. Her husband k ows she was to meet him. Secondly she had already a child with the jailed guy and still got married . In Africa thats very very rare so we need to also think of what kind of man married A single mother?have nothing against single mothers but i jnow that its a very big huddle in Africa.so she must be the one in charge and he might be what they call a Bum in the west. No self respecting man in Africa who goes out and gets a job and sweats his ass off will take a woman whoes former boyfriend is in jail for murder and theft and has already a child with him. Waoooo.i can see and African Family dismissing her immediately and in Africa family approval is very Vital.in deed its even the most important entity. You dont marry a person in Africa. You marry a family amd sometimes a village
So this whole part of her asking him am I your rib. Maybe she isn’t married at all? Cause takwaba guys! How you husband supposed to feel honestly.

Street life i think. I think she is in control and the new husband is just a wise street guy who has found a free ride along. No self respecting African man with a job will marry a single mother wjose ex is a car thief and suspected murderer. Common we know how that works back home
Please we need another prison documentary

@@bluebelle42 I live under British rule and based on my memories they generally have deviant reporting of Black people, but never look at their atrocities. It was common during their brutal role to have black African slaves' butts wiped to the bone by their appointed slave masters while raping the women and then putting the bastard son to govern the slaves on the plantain. This is worse than what they are reporting in Africa.

What is wrong with this documentary? One of the lessons we Africa and we Africans should draw from it is we have the moral obligation to have prison structures that do not dehumanize, but that rehabilitate. Last time I watched a documentary about prisons in Haiti and told myself if I were a political person in that country I would have used the history to justify the idea that prisons must be the places that do not dehumanize otherwise we justify the past by the way we treat ourselves.
