    My first playthrough I made a B-line for Caleid without knowing where I was going. I remember seeing the Redmane Knights and thinking how badass they were. They literally fight mutated creatures in an area where a nuclear bomb went off. Out of all the knights I think they honor their respective demigod the best.

    it's not out of respect, but I don't think I've killed one of them in a year. Caelid is very easy to run through and the only group of them I run past is the ones that fight the group of dogs as you approach the castle, and I always end up hanging out on that rock watching the melee and they nearly always win. These guys are just task driven, don't be their task and they don't even WANT to bother you, unlike other NPCs who are just not attacking you because they don't know you exist yet. The outcome is the same, but these guys don't feel as mindless in their constant fighting as the rest of the npc factions.

    Well, considering the "loss" in this case would mean dying to Radahn after suffering grievous injuries in ferocious mortal combat at the head of her own host, I can kind of see why Malenia's scarlet rot got out of hand. How much of a say Malenia had in the matter is debatable. It could be that she simply could no longer hold it at bay due to being so injured and about to die. As such, I doubt it was something she chose to deploy. More like something that just happened to unfold as she could no longer hold it back due to needing to put all that focus into the Radahn at hand. Ultimately, Malenia's scarlet bloom despite her efforts to hold it at bay would probably eventually have bloomed. Caelid just happened to be unfortunate enough to be where it went down. Despite only ever Radahn being able to give her trouble in battle, someone would eventually have come along and either pushed her so far, it would happen. Or just beat her like Radahn did so it would happen. No one can remain undefeated forever, after all. That or she would degrade and be eaten away by the Scarlet rot to the point of no longer being able to keep it at bay.

    I was kinda half joking about the loss thing, I know she had a lot riding on that fight. But I do think she had some sort of idea about the bloom happening since her movements just prior to it were so specific. Her jumping on top of Radahn and stabbing not only him but herself too, either with the goal of poisoning him with her blood (since we see her blood run down the blade) or with the goal of triggering the bloom. But who knows what she intended, as I don't remember if anything in the game comments on her intent in that moment.

    @@videocrowsnest5251 she stabbed herself with her sword specifically in the spot that held the unalloyed golden needle (notice that it's right where her prosthetic arm is, and Millicent puts the needle in the same spot, holding back the rot), breaking it and releasing the scarlet rot. I wouldn't characterize it as her being a sore loser about her loss record, but more that Radahn needed to be dead for Miquella's plans to advance.

  • @MugenSaint

    @MugenSaint

    It's not even entirely clear why she is fighting radahn. She defeated godrick and didn't take his rune, seems like she was just trying to conquer everything for miquella. And the game seems to hint that she intentionally broke her needle. Taking everything into account, radahn seems like mostly the neutral/good guy in the war because all he was really doing was holding back the stars from attacking the lands between.

    @@MugenSaint Neutral/good with the caveat that Radahn doing this also halted the fates of many things/people. In essence, contributing to the deadlock, bad situation the Lands Between was put into. Not just the Carrian's had their fates held in stasis, and this does come with some bad implications. Because Radahn containing fate would also mean nobody who tried could do anything to improve things any, as their fate was also unmoving. Doomed to just waste away, unable to really do anything about anything. Saving Caelid from its fate only to give it an even worse fate via Scarlet rot is at least oddly ironic. Though, Radahn might have ended up doing more bad than good with this.

    @@TheHonoredMadman Hello again! Excuse my tardiness..again. I haven't much to note( puppetry has indeed been used willingly by the Nox Maiden and Swordstress to serve beyond the limits of their lifespan, so you're even more correct. Also, I think the Redmanes aren't just burning the dogs for the sake of it; I think they're one of their only sources of food). Just a theory about the Redmanes' flame. " This Rune burns, to resist the encroachment of the Scarlet Rot. " Much has been said about Radahn's possible connection to the Fire Giants and the Flame Of Ruin through his father, Radagon. His growth in size is unlikely to have been a coincidence, and his Rune is imbued with fire in the same way Malenia's is with Rot, or Mohg's is with accursed blood. That still leaves the question of what that his soldiers are doing with it. The Flame Of Ruin, Fell God, among other names, seems to have been a sentient being; for instance, it trapped the Fire Giants into being it's keepers in exchange for the power to face Marika and Godfrey's armies, a Faustian bargain which, as we see with the last Fire Giant, involved them constantly sacrificing body and mind to recieve it's blessings. Only death gave them freedom. As such, one could argue in favour of the Flame Of Ruin being an Outer God in the same vein as the Scarlet Rot; a force immanent in the world, manifested in the powers of it's vessels and worshippers. This general rule is followed by the Outer Gods; Rot is " the death that begets life"; the Deathbirds were born of an envoy of an Outer God representing death in the times before the Erdtree; the Formless Mother is literally everywhere ( whenever you use her spells, you stab her). Most can agree on this. But then, you ask, how could the Redmanes be worshipping the Flame? Are they not loyal to Radahn's vision of following Godfrey's footsteps? Well, that would imply worship in the literal sense is required. As you may have guessed, it's a little more complicated than that. _ "Ekzykes, Dragon Communion Revenger, did not forget his hatred even as he succumbed to the scarlet rot." "The Land of Reeds has long been locked in a miserable civil war, during which time it has remained alienated from the cultures of its neighbors. Little wonder that the entire nation has succumbed to the blood-soaked madness. " _ This will be a very big stretch, but thankfully, it won't require a literal crossover to be believable, I think. Let's revisit Ashina for a minute. You remember the Sculptor's story; how he almost became Shura, but then was saved by Isshin. Instead, his negative karma and inability to let go of his resentment of the Interior Ministry forced him to another fate; becoming a vessel for the " Flames Of Hatred". What are they? Simple; according to the old hag in the building where you meet Isshin as the Tengu, it's exactly what it says in a tin; a force that manifests out of the mutual and abiding hatred created by war, manifesting in the form of flames. Becoming it's vessel, the Sculptor's hair turns red, and he becomes capable of harnessing fire with infinite applications. And yet, the Flames do not merely come from the events surrounding him; they come from the Sculptor's own deep-rooted hatred for those that have ruined his homeland. Apply that logic to Radahn, and the Redmanes. At first glance, the Scarlet Rot seems solely responsible for Radahn's fate, but as we see in the trailer, his Great Rune was already doing it's work. Was it not enough to cure him, or... Was it a source of his madness n and of itself? " The mad taint of their newfound strength triggered the Shattering." The Flames within Radahn and his soldiers burn for one reason, and it is not worship. It is their pure and utter hatred; their resolve and willingness to sacrifice everything to end the Rot and the one who brought it. Radahn isn't roaring emptily to the sky; he is blind with rage at the dishonorable end of his final battle, and he will not die until one gives him a fitting one.

    Radahn’s defining traits are honor and tradition which twisted into stagnation and a refusal to let go. The Redmanes epitomize this to a T. As cool as they are, they have decided to fight a losing battle against an enemy that had already beaten them. They’re still defending despite there being nothing left to defend. Tragically heroic or foolishly stubborn? Yes.

    As a cleanrot knight myself, I believe malenia went to fight radahn so she could help with miquellas plans, radahn held back the stars and therefore miquellas plan was in jeopardy. Proof of this is in the DLC requirements of Shadow of the erdtree, you have to kill radahn and mohg. Radahn IMO is a villain even through how cool he is, he held back the fates of many. It wasn't really right for malenia to unleash the scarlet rot but it was necessary for miquella to carry out his plans for her cure and possibly an age of Unalloyed gold of which all could be equal or an age of rot which is also good because it is the age of rebirth. I'm probably biased because I like malenia as a boss and her lore is sad but very badass. Good video though 10/10.

We see "Bloody Finger Vanquished" when defeating him. He wields a bloodloss sword. And, most importantly, he finishes what Malenia couldn't. If Mogh is doing Miquella's bidding, it tracks. An army couldn't take Radahn out so Mogh goes with manipulation of Tarnished instead, something he's good at.

    good stuff as always yo. hey I was reading about Frankenstein and Prometheus and I think the game is basically a more modern Prometheus, with Frankenstein and the creator of Frankenstein's story also having inspired events. Storm caller church and its surroundings in altus plateau is where you can see the story of frankenstein, and Caelid is where you can see prometheus played out, with giants bringing fire down to humans, so they can fight the wilds and maybe the gods. But at storm caller church there is a circle of gravel stone surrounding a sacred tear(which states to have regenerative properties) and a lightning incantation hidden in a chest in the right corner behind the entrance. The incantation is dragon bolt blessing and it makes your body electrified with a zap of lightning. Radagons statue is right above this circle and I think his position represents being sprawld out on a table but given new life, hence the growing roots and flowers in some icons. But knowing Godwyn's body did not get used, it got sent downstairs, I think his souls got used and put into gravel stone(dragon scales) and blessed by dragons with lightning in a gravel sculpture of Godwyn. While his actual body was taken and turned into a gargoyle of things found down there But that would mean Radagon is stone sculpted Godwyn, how does Marika fit? A question she probably asked herself before learning to do what Sellen does, who happens to wear a mask almost resembling Marika and bound very similar. Near the end of Sellen's questline, you get a dagger I believe called the glintstone kris. Its description implies it was sent to lyndell as a peace offering, but thats not what it really is, its proof the carians knew about an ancient ritual using destined death to first kill someone, then revive them, and have a soul to transpose either to a weapon, a new body or their pocket like currency. So obviously Marika is now pissed but also learned the depths of the revivification process and goes back home to experiment and plot. I honestly cant fathom how melania was born unless the process is more like a miranda blossom cloning its own children, but Miquella, I think, was created by using the ancient ritual on St. Trina. It would explain the cursed with eternal youth, St. Trina being sainted, and Miquella gender getting confused. Also I think while Marika is close to numen and was immortal, her and radagon are draconians now because of the gravel body, which live short lives before crumbling like Azula.

    I strongly believe Malenia came down to restart the stars because Radahn was holding up the Eclipse. Miquella couldn't fix the Godwyn glitch without it. So Malenia had to restart the stars or Miquella's whole plan to replace the Erdtree falls apart. The march from Haligtree across mountains, snowfields over such a long distance is a nightmare from a military logistics standpoint. Ignoring Godrick, Morgott, shows she WASNT after more Great Runes. I can't think of what would drive such a difficult thing unless it was necessary to make Miquella's plan work.

    So personally I’m quite convinced that Melania went to fight Radahn to try and save Miquella. Radahn is holding back whatever crashes into the Lands Between after the festival; thousands of years ago the way the Lands Between was aligned with the stars, it would’ve hit Sellia. Melania needs a hole blasted into Sellia to get to the dynasty ruins directly beneath them, and Radahn is honor bound to defend Sellia.

  • @chables74

    @chables74

    Also I don’t think Radahn killed the star creature, just held it back from crashing. If you go to the hole in Limgrave and toggle your map underground, it’s a blank area with the “undiscovered but eventually explorable area” texture. I think whatever crashed is the melting-horse-astel-boss-thing in the DLC trailer, and we have to kill it and bring some item from it to Miquella in the dynasty ruins to access the DLC, hence Radahn being a necessary fight to access it.

    I just realised that the reason we see a lot of banished knight swords and that is because those knights use storm ash of wars which derives from the storm lord. That lord was defeated by godfrey and I assume those knights were considered weak/defeated and thus (maybe) they were hunted or just used for sport. We see what look like traitors hanging all around the red castle and I think they do this not only to deter others but as a form of humiliation (hey look at these weak men who aren’t deserving of our distinct prestige) I am sure the banished knight stuff being hung up for all to see is to humiliate them also (we are here alive and strong and they are dead and weak)

    Ive seen some theories going around that from geological simularities, the dlc will have a portion of the map dedicated to pre-bloom calied, particularly the wheat fields shown in the trailer and promotion photos. Do you think that its a possibility? And if so would you think it would be cool?

    I love how so many guys on here simp for Radahn and pick his side simply for being a "chad." Neither he nor Malenia are the "good guy" here. The tragedy of the shattering is these demi-gods destroying the land and becoming twisted, broken shells. Its sad Radahn and Malenia fought like this at all. And I believe Marika set it all in motion. Ranni was in on it. Marika wanted freedom from the Greater Will and set everything into motion.

    Can I just point out, war crimes of mortals don’t mean anything to gods and demigods…. And all she really did was go super saiyan, and pass out. As grandfather Nurgal says the eco system is a alive and well. 😅

    Ironically there is actually a DS game called Bleach: Dark Souls, but it released in 2007, was developed by Treasure, and is a 2D fighting game, so it's just a hilarious in hindsight title nowadays!

    I feel honored your video has graced my maddened mind. Edit conspiracy theory: I think Malenia came to challenge Radahn, because she thought he may have had something to do with Miquella's disappearance. You can see Mohgwyn dynasty is under caelid, and I'm sure Malenia could sense that Malenia was in the Caelid area, but didnt know it was underneath Caelid. Edit: I can't spell, goddamn
