What newer Etsy sellers don't know or remember is that Etsy fees went from 3.5% to 5% and just a few short months later increased to 6.5%. So it's not like a 1.5% increase, it was almost a double increase.

They now take half my sales revenue on the regular with their ridiculous 'account fees', yet they have the nerve to proudly claim they're 'supporting artists' (video shared on Twitter - suggest others share the video on social media as well).

My RB shop has been active for TEN YEARS and I was a casual uploader with a very specific niche, and built my way up to an average of between £150 a month and would easily make £400-£600 at Christmas time. Now I'm lucky if I see even £30 with RB's drop in popularity plus the outrageous fees. I think it's time to close my shop and go elsewhere.

Redbubble is the worst

A couple of years ago I really got into RB and over the coarse of 3-4 months I uploaded around 1500 designs. The biggest problem I had was lack of traffic. I was making some sales and the conversion rate was fine I just wasn't getting enough eyeballs seeing my designs to justify the work. I haven't uploaded anything in over a year but I still get a few sales per month. I've got a KZread channel going now that is starting to get some traction and subscribers. As soon as I am allowed I'm going create a store of my own and just start moving my designs onto my own store. If RB wasn't so greedy I might would just link it to my channel since they would handle everything but they are keeping way to much of the profit.

Aside from what you mentioned, the quality has plummeted recently. AI generated crap from Fiverr gigs offering complete RB shops with ludicrous titles that satisfy SEO and outrank original content. Seriously, it's frustrating as I do make some sales but am getting drowned out by the flood of Ai junk.

Screwing over the sellers ultimately screws over the share-holders, but they probably dont see it that way.

@@BearTed1 There have been sanctions from the American administration in advance for more than 5 years. The problem is that they did not wake up to the sanctions until recently, and this is what raises both surprise and ridicule, perhaps because the Syrian and Russian governments are allies, and unfortunately people like me are paying the price, and this is something completely unfair.

I made a RB account yesterday. They put me in Standard tier and when I saw the fees I immediately cancelled my account. 😂

For me it's like up to 55% of fees they deduct from whatever I make. I used to get sales regularly and since last year sales deducted drastically. Sometimes it takes 2 months of sales to just receive $20 payment. I stopped uploading since they again increased the fees. I don't think sellers should upload anything on their platform anymore.

I still use redbubble because of the low barrier to entry, and since I’m self taught in design still unaware if my designs are good enough or what products to risk selling them on if I had to pay, and this is my only income stream.

I find it funny that my shop has had a few sales this year. I’ve had no sales for several years and then suddenly over the past couple months I’ve had a few sales there. 🤨 I haven’t uploaded any new designs in quite some time there. I was getting frustrated because every upload of one of my original characters kept getting flagged as a copyright issue, and they are apparently unable to disclose to me what copyright I’m infringing with my original character that I have proof is my own. I asked if there’s a hashtag I’m using that’s triggering the flag and apparently they can’t even disclose that to me. Also, I bought a t-shirt with one of my designs from there and the design began fading and flaking off the shirt after only 2-3 washes. 🙃

I've been planning to start POD with RB, mainly because of how "hands off" the platform is. With just starting out and having a baby, it made the most sense. I guess I will be looking into other options before I begin uploading anything. Thank you for this information.

Having your account suspended for no apparent reason sucks. I had 2 stores one of which was suspended. I worked on the damn thing for over a year and had finally started to see some regular sales. I was making $300-400 a month which in my part of the world was a small salary. But unlike a regular job you're not given notice or warning before your income is gone. Luckily I had a few other things going on but rb was my primary money maker. Currently I'm quite disgusted with them.

They probably hired some managers from Shutterstock like agency, stock photo sites pay pennies, so "why RB would need to pay more for the same amount of work".

Im Wondering What if youre a bestseller and RB Suspends you selll lets say for example 100 shirts a day with 1 design can RB steal your design and upload it on their own? or have they done something like this?

I'm on redbubble, but ever since their bots went crazy and started banning left and right I haven't really touched my accounts anymore. The introduction of tiers and raises in prises we're an even bigger reason not to touch it anymore.

Great job Shimmy - very informative. RB changed its stock ticker name not so long ago and its share are still in the gutter. A take-over by Amazon is about the only hope for that outfit. Short change your creators & repeatedly- brace yourself for the worst.

More to that, those classic t - shirts Redbubble claims are horrible of very low quality. I happen to buy a t-shirt which Redbubble claims to be classic, I regretted for paying 32€ to receive a low quality material, which that same long sleeves shirt from Temu or Shien is 5€ ! Peaprint has a bunch all over printing items. But their shipping profile is not 100% integrate with Etsy, you'll have to do it manually. But they have good price and quality impression.

I make, at best, about 5 sales a month on Redbubble. After seeing this video, I checked my account to see what tier I'm at. I'm a Premium. How low do your sales have to be to be at the Standard tier? Or is it, like you said, that they put higher sellers in the Standard tier just to grab more money?

So what pod is best

Because if someone is not from USA or Europe they can make money of these markets they will never have access on. Has a reason many stores put their designs on RB and still keep their own stores, but they know their own store is only for their own country and they left RB deal with their international market, is not the best but like is best to receive 50 USD monthly for something you already have than not receiving it.

It's more than 50% fees. I made $46 and after fees it was closer to $21. The only reason people continue to use rb is because for some of them even 20 bucks can make a difference. Rb the is probably existing on the fumes of desperate people from third world countries.

Shimmy, even Redbubble is NOT winning. Their stock price in the last year couldn't even break $1.00 Australian Dollar. They are currently 0.43 AUD, which is $0.28. For reference, Etsy, which is also having problems, is $62 today.

In fact , Redbubble should be prosecuted in the united states and australia by the FBI or the ministry of justice or the ministry of revenue. If you are watching Shimmy's videos, you likely consider POD a business, or at least a stream of income. In this case, anything seems to be better than RB. I joined at the time I wanted to learn (graphic design, online business skills etc). RB had a really low entry barrier compared to some other platforms. But that is not enough, if you want to earn, not just to learn.

Yeah, things are getting weirder and weirder. Last year I was doing research and hoped to do some POD designs this year. Then this RB thing happened and now Etsy... The time for the "easy side hustle" way of dabbling in POD designs seems to be over. I just don't have the time to put into marketing my own POD store.
