The RED DUNES of Sossusvlei, and Namibia's own Valley of DEATH! _ E6

In this episode we venture deep into the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world ... This is where we discover the stark white clay pans of Sossusvlei and Dooievlei (Dead Vlei).
Dooievlei was formed 900 years ago when the river was cut off from the pan by the surrounding gigantic red dunes. The water on the pan, or vlei, evaporated and the pan dried into the hard white crust we see today. The harsh, dry environment left the trees to die but not rot away ... these blackened dead trees is what makes dead vlei so distinctive.
Sossusvlei, on the other hand, still receives some water from time to time but we get to walk out on it's hard, dry, cracked surface, devoid of any moisture.
Around these pans lie the red giants of the Namib ... massive russet coloured dunes with names like 'Big Daddy' and 'Big Momma' ... an awesome sight to see and an awesome challenge to climb, and that's not even including Dune 45!
We also explore the Sesriem Canyon nearby ...
