The Recording Process | Learning The Basics

Ойын-сауық

Modern studio production revolves around the concept of multi-track recording.
In this video, AIMM instructor Keith O'Neil breaks down the recording process and stages of production.
This includes:
Preproduction - This is where the engineers meet everyone involved and organize a plan for the upcoming session. This can also include payment arrangements.
Recording - Different sound sources are picked up by microphones and recorded to different tracks of a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).
Editing/Overdubbing - The engineer can make sure the drummer is lined up with the predefined tempo map. Time aligning is important during this step. Additional instruments or vocals are added during the overdubbing stage.
Mixing - The engineer takes all the separate tracks and works to make them sound like one, cohesive song. Panning, effects, and volume changes are made here.
Mastering - After being mixed, the mastering engineer makes fine-tuning edits. Now it is ready for distribution.
