There's nothing to celebrate for carlsen anymore tbh, he is so used to winning like almost everything. But again yeah kudos to fabi too.

i thought it was interesting how the first game i watched in this tournament the pieces being shuffled around left me feeling very disoriented and the game was hard to follow, but by the end of the tournament it felt more normal and natural, got adjusted to it. thanks to sagar for his excellent commentary and making sense of the gameplay

A joy to watch the top 2 talking it out after the game. Such great respect and sportsmanship.

I love this type of chess with random pieces. There is less theory and more imagination + you get spicy positions that usually dont happen that much in classical chess. Just my opinion.

They're not random. Most people who use the word random use it wrongly. You know 100% of the pieces that will go on the board, ergo you 100% know the outcomes prior to placing the pieces, just like you 100% know that a die will fall on a number between 1-6 before even throwing it. Random would be if a dragon spawned out of a pawn, gave you a billion dollars, kissed you and then farted a rainbow and disappeared in thin air. That would be random.

Nah he's historically struggled actually. Wesley even crushed him in a match once which kind of never happens to Magnus. And the Rapid portion was shaky at best. But it would be very interesting to see this become a mainstay in the chess scene to see if he could maintain this level.

The players were told not to hang their jackets over the backs of the chairs as this would detract from the overall look of the high class resort. Everyone complied with the request, except Magnus the GOAT.

Magnus showed a few moments of vulnerability in this tournament. I would be encouraged 👍

Since chess is supposed to be a war between 2 sides the players should be permitted to arrange their pieces as they wish to at the start rather than follow a common laid down pattern. That is real freestyle.

Different style called Chess960. Same principles but for the starting position some of the pieces are placed randomly. Look it up it seems pretty cool.
