At 20:30 why do we need to stay "number one" forever? #1 in what? Most powerful military, the highest GDP, the highest population, whatever...? doesn't really help the average citizen. Instead we should aspire to be Denmark. You never hear about Denmark getting into any wars or conflicts, or having crazy scandals. They just sit back, and do their thing, while consistently being at the top of the list of happiest citizens. He even said it himself, China has a lot of people in poverty, they're where they are simply because of sheer population numbers. What good is that? Maybe we should go for quality over quantity.

I agree. With that said though, I do agree with Matt that being forcefully anti immigration doesn’t really helps anybody. It has to be an equal balance; incentivizing people across the world to come here but still being accommodating to citizens and our institutions in how to integrate immigrants into our society. Immigration is our strength, but like with anything in life, too much of something will spoil.

Respectfully, Denmark can only be Denmark because Great Britain and America have protected Denmark over the decades. I don’t disagree that America’s military spending is insane, but I also believe we must recognize that Denmark peaceful existence exists because other people are paying for its peaceful existence.

@@gabenewell6998 - Immigration comes with its pros and cons... and those pros and cons depend on the details. Immigration is not out strength anymore than men or women are our strength. By the way, here is an overview of Denmark’s stance on immigration. It’s Wikipedia, but the issue is well documented given the source links. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_to_Denmark

@@pietersteenkamp5241 the user above is a protectionist which is a flawed economic theory that is most notably used by north korea. It makes a lot of sense to have a larger population and larger economy in order to compete with growing powers like china. Trumps policies have done nothing to make America great again and we are worse off economically than we were when he was elected. Meanwhile china continues to grow.

@@shaneviola8848 To be sure the USA is fairly protectionist as is most major economies; it's how you develop an industrial economy and even failing that how you can protect a service economy. Beside that i believe the North Korean model is based around autarky ( basically that they can sustain themselves with little or any foreign trade) which they basically had to do because of the US sanctions regime imposed after the Korean war. As for the more general statements in this discussion the USA does not need more people but more equality trough internal investment in the real economy. Compared to the USA China is still a poor country and even when it comes to technology it's an open question if China could win a naval conflict with even Japan. My bets are on China but it's in my understanding not obvious and i suspect they could take heavy casualties in the process. As for Trump when and if he had good ideas it was sabotaged by the permanent state as he lacked both the patience, skill and loyal like minded personal to get anything beyond a regular republican agenda passed.
