Men got to Stanford, walked into his dorm room, and printed that Hawkeye poster.

Big shout out to Flo for bringing this to light. An extremely sad and unfortunate ordeal this young dude had to go through. The sacrifices of the parents and everyone else on his journey is incredible. The sad truth is that wrestling doesn’t generate the flow of money that even a low level football program does. This needs to change! Flo you guys are getting there! Keep putting the spotlight on wrestling and giving it a platform it deserves!

Real Woods and family are incredibly inspirational. This is an amazing story about true love and sacrifice in a family. Real's father saw the potential in his son and the desires of his son's heart. He helped train his son up and then let him go to achieve his dreams. This should definitely be made into a feature film. And to think his Mom also let her son go away during his high school years. Wow! Amazing! And Real is an Awesome man! His drive, talent, determination, sacrifice, love for family/friends/wrestling, zest for life, confidence, etc are absolutely EXTRAordinary!

There is a lesson here. Gotta be the CEO or in this case (I'm guessing) The Athletic Director on top that made the decision. Maybe Real's new life goal is to become the NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR at Stanford University and never allow wrestling to get shut down ever again. It is a business school and team cuts are business decisions. Oh and Real seems like a nice guy. He will find his path

Never knew he was from Abq. Crazy journey and more crazy now that he’s at Iowa. There’s a lot A LOT of those types of wrestlers hidden in NM. They need the clinics and resources, like anywhere the best one’s leave for the money and support.

Heart warming story on Real Woods and his family, friends, and coaches. This is a truly a story of hardwork and sacrafices to reach your goal. I applaud his communtiy and his family. You guys are inspirational. God Bless all of you.

It's bullshit anyways. Wrestling is one of the cheapest sports. Requires the least equipment, the smallest practice space.

I know this ended on a sad note, but it should not be taken that way at all. The young man achieved his dream. Now, let’s see what doors open for him . I expect nothing but the best from him. He will overcome. Wonderful family and people in video!!! Very uplifting video.

Touching video. Very relatable. Goal was UCLA for me and now I’m here in my dorm. The Athletic dream could not quite come true but I refuse to believe that my journey as an athlete is over.

I wrestled with Izzy whilst I was at montini, fantastic coach, saved my life. Izzy is truly the salt of the earth.

Always loved seeing those National Champs from Harvard or those AAs from Stanford they used to always have those Gentry type 157 pounders. How cool to get a fantastic degree and wrestle! 157 always has a Harvard or Stanford stud back in the day and a Boise State dude that was huge for the weight hahah.

What a low blow from Stanford university. Should have at least kept the program for the young man that were already recruited. I guess the Stanford people who makes the decisions aren’t that smart after all. Again, what a low blow to all the young wrestlers who sacrificed so much to get into this program.

when stanford reinstated wrestling-why did he choose to go to Iowa?

This makes me sad. We need to start marketing the sport better. If wrestling brought in money we wouldn’t have to see programs get cut so easily. It’s honestly depressing that we see our programs get cut, weight classes eliminated. We almost lost wrestling from the Olympics.

It’s so sad that Stanford had to drop their program

I’m sure that’s the last thing they wanted to do as well, especially with all that talent they had. Griffith, Real, Abas. It was so much talent coming in through recruiting classes as well. What a shame.

Montini catholic is top 5 in the country and number 1 in the state of illinois. They even dethroned Oprf for that number 1 spot. A whole lot of of people would make that same choice no doubt.

Love the idea about crowdfunding to keep Stanford wrestling but in reality, the money would do better going to a program that wants to keep wrestling. There is no way Stanford is broke. Would LOVE to see Real transfer to a school that will let him wear the Stanford singlet, that would be a special moment to see....

Great story watched him win Ironman 2016 I think at Walsh Jesuits High School in Ohio beat our guy 1-0 from Delta,Ohio in the finals

My advice as a former college wrestler at a prestigious university: don’t put all of your eggs in one basket like this. Focus on and apply to at least a few places. Even if you’re really good and really smart and spent your whole like wanting to go to special place, you may not get in.

Great Story!! My heart goes out to any of the student athletes in the past couple years! I can't imagine working my whole life to obtain a goal and dream, just to be shutdown with no recourse. SAD!! So where is Real going? Who is he gonna wrestle for? Lol,He'd look GREAT in a OHIO STATE BUCKEYE SINGLET!! LOL,JUST SAYING!!

Maybe it's time to look at another goal. You can't wrestle you're whole life.
