This is 80% BS Dr. Porsche didn't start with a blank sheet of paper - he started with the designs of Josef Ganz. In fact you could say that Ganz's designs also are the basis for all those rear engine Porsches.

Long before Hitler came to power, Ferdinand Porsche start his work on a cheap, but modern car for the masses, so Hitler did not conceive the Volkswagen, as stated in the video. Some believe that Porsche simply copied some ideas from Tatra, but tht is equally wrong. The early 1930s saw numerous rear engined cars, like the Mercedes 130 H and 170H, the Tatra. Rear-engined cars are cheaper to produce and so are air-cooled engines.

  • @lawrencelewis8105

Hitler came up with the idea of a cheap people's car to get everyone on board with building the autobahns. The VW design copied so much of Ledwinka's ideas that Tatra sued VW and won many years later. Patent infringement- tubular chassis, rear engine, air cooling, torsion bars all came from Tatra. Yes, lots of companies came up with the rear engine idea, but Porsche's design was the one approved for production. And do recall that the Mercedes 130H and 170H were water cooled. The VW was not a "revolutionary" design that came out of nowhere but was derived from other people's ideas. Me, I love the Citroen Traction Avant- a design that came out in 1934 with an all-steel body, styling based on the 1933 Ford, front wheel drive, torsion bar suspension and rack and pinion steering. All came before it but the Traction is the first car to have all of that in one package that people could afford.
