The Tragic Downfall of TopGear
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May, BBC, controversies, The Grand Tour, Top Gear Demise. What happened to top gear. Top Gear was a highly popular British motoring show in the early 2000s and 2010s, featuring the iconic trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May. The show's success stemmed from the presenters' chemistry and diverse content, including car reviews, challenges, races, and international specials. Despite facing controversies, particularly involving Clarkson's alleged offensive comments, Top Gear remained a cultural phenomenon. The show's original format ended in 2015 when Clarkson was fired following a physical altercation with a producer. Hammond and May departed soon after, leading to an unsuccessful BBC relaunch. The trio later created The Grand Tour for Amazon, continuing their collaborative success with a higher budget.
SHOUT OUT TO - Matic Podobnik for the video idea!!!.
In the creation of this video, I have incorporated clips from various sources to serve as B-roll footage. These clips are used under the principles of fair use for the purpose of commentary, criticism, education, and transformative use. The content is not used with the intention of infringing upon the original creators' copyright, but rather to enhance the value of the final work and provide a richer viewing experience.

@Jeff_Pretzel i agree with you. Do you think they should have canceled the show in 2023?

@@LukesCarTalk yes and no, they saw how well grand tour did. And realized that the effort to put into tg would have been too much

@@Jeff_PretzelJeremy Clark made bank with his farm series, he didn't need top gear anymore.
Didn't know that top gear was finally cancelled. I remember when Netflix had almost all of the 21 seasons of top gear on it. It was the most beautiful thing lol.
yeaaaa uh top gear is cooked😭
What did Jeremy say and to who?
Really liked this video, it nicely summarizes everything that happened. Maybe do a follow up explaining how Top Gear could have improved before being canned?

Good idea!
And then we had Too Gear USA… a very disappointing experience that lasted like 3 seasons and somehow, it was better to see than the later Top Gear UK with that Evans dude
Great short explanation! I never quite knew the whole story. Long live OG top gear 🙌

Glad you liked it!
P.S. - The end of Top Gear in December 2022 wasn't caused by low ratings, but the show was indefinitely put on hiatus by the BBC due to the serious life-threatening accident that occurred during one of the dangerous stunts shot for the programme whose casualty became one of the presenters. Yes, the show's ratings/viewership plummeted significantly in 2016 (Series #23), right after the departure of the trio Clarkson-Hammond-May (C-H-M), but this began to turn around for the better in 2019 (Series #27) when the presenter Chris Harris was joined by popular Paddy McGuinness and Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff. The viewership nearly doubled back then, going from the average of 2.35 MIL viewers per episode on the Series #26 to 4.46 MIL per episode. And the numbers then continued to grow, which culminated on the Series #30 when the show averaged fantastic 6.42 MIL per single outing; this performance is basically equal to what the trio 'C-H-M' was used to achieve back in 2015 and prior. This was in the early 2021. The last Series #33 that first aired in the late 2022 averaged 4.39 MIL viewers which is certainly also pretty good and in actuality it is a better result than what the first six Series of Top Gear managed to achieve (between 2002 and 2005).

This would have been a riveting video if it were 2015. This happened fairly recently and everyone knows why Clarkson got fired. But you missed all of the incidents that led up to that. He was nearly fired a few weeks earlier for some racist comments he made on a column of a newspaper he wrote for at the time. The producers claimed that was his final chance, then the fight at the restaurant happened later. Also, I’m not sure if you were tired or something, but at the end of the video you said “Did James deserve to be fired?” But the entire video you were talking about Jeremy and you clearly said James and Richard quit. You really need to pay attention to what you say. Lastly, you need to be more specific with your timeline. The Grand Tour started just 1-2 years after the original hosts left Top Gear. The first episode of the Grand Tour was released nearly 10 years ago. Also, it’s no longer like Top Gear because they only release feature length films now. They no longer follow the ordinary format of Top Gear.

Yes, but his videos are very short in comparison to other KZread documentaries. It's quite hard to fit all of that in a short form video. Either way it was an interesting watch even for someone who has been a diehard fan of Top Gear since around 08-09. Although from what you commented, I would imagine you are as much of a fan as I am.

Okay, after posting my last comment and reread yours. I wanted to rewatch the video again to make sure. Generally speaking, he summed it up pretty well with how the events played out. Yes, after saying that top gear was cancelled in 2023 and then right after that, saying that the trio was not yet done making a car show. So it sounded like it happened in 2023, but it obviously did not. Then the whole May and Hammond part was in a way, rushed. Also I will say he said stick around to the end of the video to see how one racist comment can something something and their was nothing like that at the end. Either way, it was a good video to feel nostalgic about and he got the general point across. I would like to say, it seems as if you're very passionate about the ol' trio and I would love to suggest sitting down and possibly making a video of your own. If you do, I'd love to watch it.
