The Real Reason Western Media Lies about China

There are many lies that are told about China, but why is it so hard for Western Media to tell the truth? I first went to China in January 2007, from that moment until now, I've never read or heard a single piece of positive content about China from Western media. Can China really be as bad as Western media wants us to believe?

Why should one call the one-party-system in China not a democracy? I call it a democracy. It is a different system than in so called western democracies. But people do have a vote. They vote on the ground level, where they really know the candidates personally. They have lots of choices, beginning with the choice to be a party member or not. In the USA people can choose between pest & cholera, one political dynasty or the other, one monster sucking their blood vital or the other. The role model for what we call democracy in the west was Athens en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athenian_democracy "Participation was far from open to all residents, but was instead limited to adult, male citizens (i.e., not a foreign resident, regardless of how many generations of the family had lived in the city, nor a slave, nor a woman), who 'were probably no more than 30 percent of the total adult population' " What we have in western countries is a *democracy-simulation.* "If elections could change anything, they would be forbidden."

Another reason why Eva Dou’s article (and her follow up tweets arguing that people cannot now eat to their heart’s content) is so misleading, is because it completely ignores cultural practice in China. When Chinese dine out with guests, it is common for the host to over order by 50% or more, because it would be deeply embarrassing to have your guests leave the meal still hungry. As guests, it is polite for you to leave some leftovers on the table, as a signal to your host that you are not hungry anymore. Both these forces result in a lot of unnecessary food waste. Hence, this anti-food waste campaign gives both host and guests a good reason to be careful with the amounts ordered and to finish the food that has been ordered. It is a totally logical and environmentally friendly policy, that makes sense to 99% of Chinese, who understands the context of such a policy. This is the real shame, that a journalist with a Chinese sounding name, failed to or deliberately didn’t put the policy in the correct context, but instead re-contextualized it in a negative light through a Western lens, which totally misrepresented the situation.

sam watt Totally agree, and I forgot to mention that. Excessive food orders can be regarded as a show of wealth, so hopefully this new campaign will puncture that particular perception and make it “uncool”, which in turn leads to less waste. Also, global food shortage was always driven by uneven distribution, not insufficient output, because total global caloric output is sufficient to feed everyone, but most of it is concentrated in the developed world, so there’s food waste in developed countries but hungry people in poorer countries. COVID-19 exacerbates this distribution problem. China’s domestic distribution channels are excellent, so as long as they can import the necessary food, it will be available where needed within China. There are currently no import issues, so this idea that China’s got a food shortage problem is total BS.

I'm Chinese that grew up in the West. For most of my childhood and teens, I hated China and I hated my Chinese heritage because everything I heard was how China was evil and that it was a bad country. It wasn't until university where I needed to do some research on China for an assignment that I received contradictory facts. Even then, the thought was so ingrained into me that I ignored anything positive about China. I went to China, for the first time, in 2016 as one of my relatives passed away. I thought I was going to spend a month in a crappy country, but I had the best time of life in China and the experienced really changed my view. I started to do more research and explore Chinse culture and history. Although China still have many problems, I am proud of China's growth and progress. I am optimistic that China will continue to solve its problems and grow, and I am proud to be Chinese.

@Albert Moore Why should _People's Republic of China_ 🇨🇳 be annexed by a non-communist _Republic of China_ 🇹🇼? The Kuomintang were the ones who lost the mainland to the Communist Party of China and had to flee to Formosa (Taiwan). During the Chinese Civil War, the communists were at a *severe disadvantage;* they were mostly poorly trained peasants, their weapons were lousy, and they had far fewer numbers (only 50 communist members in 1921) over the Kuomintang. The KMT on the other hand, had massive wealth (they taxed the peasants heavily) they had superior weapons, better training, and far superior numbers over the the communists. Securing victory against the communists should have been a piece of cake for the KMT. Yet the communists survived all KMT attempts to wipe them out, employing strategies like "Long March" (长征) and despite KMT's initial advantages, the KMT still lost the mainland to communists and had to flee to Formosa (Taiwan). This demonstrates KMT's *gross incompetence* in their right to rule the mainland.

This Cyrus, was nothing short of brilliant! After extensively reading up on China by people like Robert L. Kuhn, Martin Jacques, Zhang Weiwei, Xi Jinping and many others, it becomes very clear that the Chinese government, the CPC, and the Chinese people are totally future oriented, but at the same time seek to build on the best solutions from the past. As the saying goes, China is aiming at 2050 and beyond, USA is looking back to 1950 and before. The US Americans seem oblivious on how FDR was able to bring USA forward again during the great depression by spending big on infrastructure and seeing to that the unemployed found work. Trump and the modern US governments are the exact opposite, seeing to that as many as possible end up in total poverty with resulting social unrest, and trying to bully all other countries. Will be interesting to see what will happen, and it is doubtful Biden is a new FDR. More likely he will be a continuation of Trump in most areas.

Biden is not likely going to walk out of this shadow in his foreign policy particularly revolving around China. This, along with the other domestic problems you mentioned, would pose great challenges for Biden and his administration as Trumpism has become a political culture that would likely to continue its influence.

You may have the money to order a lot of food but the point is, why are you wasting food? There are many peoole who is going hungry so you need to discipline yourself which in my opinion is correct. Order only what you can eat is a discipline we need to instill in everyone.

By and large, China’s Xinjiang policies are sound. They are primarily driven by the impetus to avoid the kinda devastating “war on terror” seen in Pakistan’s border region with Afghanistan. Neither is China prepared to let Xinjiang slip into another Kashmir, or Chechnya. www.rbth.com/travel/328614-7-things-to-know-prior-to-coming-to-chechnya Ultimately, China is responsible for peace and development on its own territory. Western powers cannot care less about fostering inclusive trade relations built on the principles of equality and mutual respect. Instead, they see it their national interest, to undermine infrastructure development in this geostrategic region, seizing every opportunity to attack legitimate infrastructure projects that improve people’s living standards under the Belt and Road Initiative. Arguably, they have the least legitimacy to preach about the virtues of religious freedom, given their blatant human rights abuses committed under decades of genocidal war on terror. 😱 When bitter medicine is taken to cure a chronic illness, it doesn’t take a genius to expect at least some side effects. Only when China manages to secure the Silk Road with amiable partnering states will Asia truly flourish, and be liberated from the fetters of aggressive colonial interventionist campaigns and backward tribal mentality. Wise Muslim scholars understood that it was no coincidence, that the golden age of the predominantly Buddhist-Taoist-Confucian Tang dynasty had a symbiotic empowering effect on the historic rise of Islam, through boosting Silk Road trade and cultural exchanges. Naturally, the vision of the Asian century will not be readily tolerated, under the present overarching Anglo-American hegemony supported by the stubborn regional underlings who are actively selling out their misinformed people to hang onto the coattails of Western war criminals. When the lives of colored aliens or POC significantly improve on an unprecedented scale, it is increasingly seen as an audacious assault on the myth of “White supremacy”. 😎 This inevitably brings geopolitical consequences, when regional followers refuse to worship Western power underpinned by Anglo-American hegemony. 😈 China’s growing influence will trigger a domino effect, once the cult-like belief in Western invincibility is compromised beyond what’s considered tolerable threshold. Gradual loss of faith in the ultimate superiority of the corrupt political system disguised as genuine liberal democracy and freedom is bound to lead to erosion of the much-touted strength of what increasingly works like an unsustainable financial system. It gravely heightens the risk of dollar collapse, which will subvert America’s attraction as the leading destination for top-notch worldclass talents, who in turn help make the US an overwhelming magnet for global capital. However, another angle to the escalating structural crisis shines the spotlight on a great historic dilemma. China's schoolkids beat American students in all categories - Big Think bigthink.com/politics-current-affairs/pisa-test-china?Autofeed&Social&facebook=1&Facebook#Echobox=1602260749 The Chinese are oppressed idiots who cannot innovate. How sad.... Therefore, what’s the whole point of education? 🤔😱 People are just naturally born creative, judged by the color of skin. Intelligence is a blessing from God. The superior race needs neither AQ nor EQ, because of the presence of exceptional dna that can only be found in a stable genius. 😉👌 Given such messaging, is it any wonder why Americans are now crying foul, reportedly over their “stolen jobs”? 😈 Can the most respected geniuses in the entire history of humanity be beaten by notoriously oppressed idiots who cannot innovate? 🙄 If you seriously believe such blatant bs, you don’t seem too smart. 😌 Nor do you seem to be the lionized free people with your own independent thoughts, imho. 🙈 If you want to see others in perpetual poverty and sickness, will you ultimately be blessed with good fortunes in happiness? 🤔 Does it take a genius to come to terms with the reality, the primary reasons why Americans are undergoing unprecedented sufferings? 🙄 Why stubbornly choose to live in denial, in your own ivory tower? 😌 Continuing foreign policies of an aggressive nature fatally undermines the indispensable rising need for deepening mutual trust between the world’s key stakeholders, who must commit to strengthening international collaboration to meet complex common global challenges. “Who needs who?” 🤔 Honestly, I am not a fan of rhetoric of this nature, to speak the least. Such hubris only exhibits pure ignorance. Before China’s epic reemergence as an economic powerhouse, gross underestimation of China’s potential prevailed throughout advanced Western nations. The situation now however is no better, given escalating attempts to put the genie back into the bottle. 2 wrongs do not make it right. 😌 When they argue that the Chinese cannot innovate, are they asserting it as the gospel truth? 🙄 Or rather, are they trying to make it a reality? 😎🙊 It is a matter of perspective, as to who needs who more, at a particular time. When China needed goods, it sought to establish Silk Road trade links with other states. But when the British empire needed the vast Chinese market to bankroll its colonial expansion throughout the world, it waged 2 opium wars on China. I guess this shows the difference between civilizational culture, and naked barbarity. Ultimately, Trump cannot assume sole responsibility for the historic fallout. 1. If you were a firm believer of intelligent design, it should be seen as nothing short of an unmistakably strong message from God. 2. If you were however, an honest intellectual of natural selection, it would reflect the cataclysmic failure of a supposedly superior system. The idea that America can guarantee your security is first and foremost, deceit or hubris on its part. Equally important however, it is evident of historical amnesia or inferiority complex on your part. I mean, unless America believes it is in a position to replace God, it can guarantee nobody’s destiny. That’s between each of us and God, if you firmly believe intelligent design. On the other hand, an honest intellectual does not foretell that the process of natural selection can ever be dictated by the US. It is in the fundamental interest of the American leadership to stop this pretense. Ultimately, it is neither some all-knowing prophet, nor a selfless crucified savior. 😈 In fact, chances are the opposite will happen. It is far more likely America will meet its doom in the not-too-distant future, thereby overwhelming you with the excessive burden of a falling empire. 1. Did the Queen ever apologize for widespread atrocities committed under centuries of British colonial imperialism until this day and age, given the deepest Western concerns for human rights abuses in other countries? 😌 2. Did she ever exert her overwhelming influence to facilitate the justified return of historical artifacts and cultural relics in the British museum, should she have the least basic respect for historical and cultural property rights? 🙄 3. Why is modern Western liberal democracy in the 21st-century still singing “God save the Queen”? 🤔 4. Did she ever have any guilty-conscience, to continue draining state coffers for her large royal household expenses, amid unprecedented socioeconomic fallout from the pandemic? 5. What’s her opinion, on her own personality cult in the world? 6. Are the Royal Army and Royal Navy supposed to protect the British people, or the British Monarchy? 7. Why are modern Western liberal democracies peddling the corrupt influence of an imperialist dynasty? 8. Isn’t the persistent socioeconomic underdevelopment, evident from the widespread hunger and poverty seen throughout South Asia and Africa, a profound legacy of British colonial rule? China must begin exploring legitimate ways to seek at least some form of symbolic compensation for the opium wars. No normal Chinese person with minimal self-esteem can ever rest in peace, without seeing the rightful return of cultural relics, historical artifacts and national treasures from the British Museum. This is perfectly understandable, in honor of all great civilizational contributions to humanity. No amount of fortune can buy people the dignity they deserve, without the freedom to study their own exceptional achievements in history. No nation can start to uphold the genuine principles of universal human rights, without first respecting the basic right to exercise this freedom. Actions speak louder than words. The fact remains that the sprawling corrupt globalized trade in opium did bankroll the largest colonial empire in human history.

I grew up in China until 9 years old and moved to America. Yes, Chinese schools and media tries to teach Chinese to be ultra-nationalistic and have very tight control over what is taught and seen. But when I came to the US, it was basically the same thing with the national anthem sung in schools everyday and "USA! We're #1!" mentally pounded into you over and over. The melting pot and "freedom" to be who you are is a myth. You basically get ostracised in school and jobs for being different. Foreign languages get mocked and laughed at. Religious inclusion is a joke, Muslims get beat up and killed, I saw a Buddhist get spit on for giving out pamphlets. At least China is focused on improving their citizen's lives while the US is basically telling their citizens to look away from the crumbling infrastructure and backward policies and focus on an "evil enemy abroad" instead.

What you say here is interesting. Now the election is coming up in the US and loads of people and mostly the presses and TV stations make a lot of noises against President Trump. Some of the criticism is even very personal. Nothing happened to these people or the Presses, or the journalists. Try to do the same in China and you will disappear in no time. We all take democracy for granted in the West. It does not exist in China unfortunately. Please think deeper next time before writing and the world will have less conflict.

And on top of that, you are ascribing the blame of world conflict on me just because you don't like what you read? LOL kid, you're obviously not a fraction as intelligent as you think you are. The freedom to speak out means nothing when decades of protest against blood for oil and blood for politics fall on deaf ears. From 1960s Vietnam to 2000s Iraq, the US war machine will continue to march on without regard to the voices of the dissenting citizens. I was all for anti-Iraq war and Occupy Wall Street and all that resulted from the protests were jail time and beatings from the police. The BLM protests are still facing police violence and public violence. There are pro Trumpsters pointing guns at poll takers and plots to kidnap Governors. The Amnesty International and many European nations decried the beating of journalists (including foreign journalists) by US police force, but here you are telling me "but but look at China!" just like the brainwashed lemmings I described the government wants you to be. Not forgetting along the road to success the Chinese never stole, bullied killed anyone in any country. Instead Chinese even when the were poorer, helped many countries. THANK YOU !! - I'm so glad to finally hear someone say this out loud, from a platform with a substantial audience. And yes: the drive behind the anti-china sentiment in the western media, is jealousy. The same was the case with the cold war against the soviet union: They were achieving amazing things that we here in the west, at that time, could only dream of. And to make matters worse the reason they could do what we couldn't was that they ditched market economy and the notion that everybody had to compete, which to us, here in the west, was considered something near sacred.. I was a teenager in the 1980s, and I can tell you that back then nobody particularly cared that communism wasn't "democratic".. That wasn't really a big issue back then: After all there were still countries among our political allies against communism, that were constitutionally dictatorships, or ruled by religious priesthoods, so.. Even though of course we considered democracy ourselves and our democracy the best, the matter of what kind of system (except communism of course) was the best, was sort of still up for debate.. The fact that communism wasn't democratic wasn't a big issue. No. Their real atrocity, as far as we were concerned.. what really got our pis boiling.. was the fact that they were not market-economy. In so many words: The soviet union was pissing on our holy cow, and as if to add insult to injury they were having success with it. That's the real reason why we hated them so much that they had to be destroyed at all costs, and why we waged 70 years of cold war of economic harassment against them, so that when they finally caved in to our undermining their their economy, we could tell ourselves that it was somehow because their economic system didn't work. Which is about the worst bucket of bullsh**t, considering the fact that they managed to not only rebuild after WW2 (without the marshall help from the US, that the western european countries had had to lean on), not to mention having to keep up with the extremely expensive nuclear arms race that we were pushing on them, but even had the surplus to thrive and prosper. Market economy was a holy cow to us, and we just couldn't take it that over there in the east they were having success with a different model. And we still can't take it that China has not toed the line but continue to call their system communism. It hurts our pride, and they even have success with it.. And we just can't take it.

@Wong Wong I would only agree to a certain extent that Chinese are peaceful. To be more accurate, China has no interest in ruling over people that have nothing in common with our appearance. Superficial it maybe, but throughout history, we can see that China had so many internal war but not much expansionism, most of the expansion is when another race conquered China, combined it’s country’s landmass and after decades or centuries they got overturned again by the Han race. For example China never expanded to Mongolia when its military and economy was flourishing. Mongolian conquered China, combined the borders and Mongolia thus became part of China, renaming itself as the Yuan dynasty. It was also this time that Tibet was officially combined into China under the Yuan dynasty as they were also defeated in war by the Mongolians. Later Mongols were overthrown by Ming dynasty and occupied the China at that point of time which included Mongolia and Tibet. Perhaps you can say that the Han race is a little racist. We don’t bother those that we deemed different and had no interest on ruling over them. However once they’re accepted into the country’s system, China overcomes the racial issue by enticing migration of Han citizens to the new province through tax incentive, free land entitlement and crop seeds, at the same time the travel is paid for by the government. However we will never know how much of these funding ends up in the pockets of the corrupted officials. Interracial marriages eventually prosper in these migrated regions and after afew generations, the people quickly recognise themselves as part of China. Western media probably will complain that it’s a cultural homicide, but it is also the most peaceful and effective way. Also this was happening during an era that western empires like the Greeks, Persians and Romans were using enslavement as the main form of control. We, the Hans aren’t invasive to other races, we ain’t interested to rule other people with white skin and blue eyes, we just wants to be left alone and be ruled by people like ourselves. The western history have proven to be much more aggressive and invasive that they want to rule whoever they can as long as they could.

Way back in 1992 - 1997 I worked at the library of a law school. They had a subscription to a U.S. Government Joint Chiefs Journal (published by the Pentagon). Even then our military was predicting a war with China. Since then I concluded that our military WANTS war (because they feel threatened by China's #2 global economic status) and that the Pentagon controls the US news, brainwashing Americans into seeing China as an enemy, hence the negative news bias.

Destabilizing and looting is what US did with many countries aka bombing Iraq and then lining up to rebuild while hundreds and thousands died needlessly. This is human rights, totally twisted! The safest I have ever felt is the time I spent in China! I think the Chinese government truly cares about the people, their safety and well-being. Quite the opposite of the US.
