Fix exhaust manifolds and exhaust system upgrade and cap rotor plugs wires cold air intake 55 mph is what they are built for with 4.56 gears

New cluster there Notorious just like the shift linkage breaking and reverse going out

My 98 k1500 says it's 10-15 mph over what it is too. I was planning on fixing it but I just got used to it 🤷‍♀️

The shifting problem is the throttle position sensor or the 2 speed sensor are no good. The speedometer problem could be fixed by replacing the individual motor or getting a new cluster.

Change exhaust manifolds once a year or 3 inch duals really helped mine

My speed reads twice as fast plus 5mph. I know it by rpms near dead on. I have a 5 speed with a vortec 350 though

I think the 454 cluster is specifically for that engine

It actually is. I had no idea how "specific" the 454 is compared to the rest of the gas engines.

It prolly has a 3 sensor abs system and somebody changed the gears, not really a good fix u can put a box on the rear sensor to even the speed out but no quick fix

my dad went through 3 of these in his tow truck.

Sounds like an open wire somewhere and your exhaust manifold needs to be tightened up

Fer sh1t sakes! Your tires are smaller than what the truck came with. You can re-program or change your tires.. Your trans (tcm) gets it's info from the wheel sensor, so does the abs and others too.

That would make sense if it went through the gears properly, held signal for the speedo and if the abs had faults. But I appreciate the input, but this truck has been long since replaced.

so did you change the wheel/tire size? To throw off the speedometer?

No. It still has the OEM 225s on it.

So you prefer your 6.5 to this?

Given my experience, yes. But again, we are talking my personal experience.

Rip that fuel injection iff and put a performer intake and carb, change cam and enjoy 430hp and 500ft pounds and keep it for a fun backup veichle

How could you hate on a big block chevy? In this generation is 290 hp and 410 torque at 3200rpm i love my 91 TBI 454 which is 230 hp and 385 ft lb torque ive owned it 30 years this year

I've always given it its dues for the year and Era that it was in. But when it's surrounded by newer, more powerful platforms like my fleet (and I mentioned), it's not a fair comparison. That and the issues I'd been chasing, it just wasn't worth it, in my opinion.

You should sell the truck and buy a ford. You sound like a ford owner. I real man would fix the problem and not cry about a old truck not being perfect.

That's not a big problem probably speed sensors

Seams to me your vss or cluster is fubar. Nothing engine related.

Ended up being the cluster. I didn't know they were 454 specific
