Ive lived in Springfield area for 1 year. Moved From Austin,Tx, and before that Seattle. Pros: Weather, Not much traffic, beautiful natural land. lots of open space. Cons: Wages and job market are terrible, People have little hope for life, Peoples standards are low (this is seen both at work, in restaurants, and the way many people dont upkeep their homes. Lot of Meth. Tailgaters (i dont think the people intentionally drive agressive, but they just do. I do love this place, but making a living is much harder than big cities.

I’ve considered permanent relocation to Springfield, really love the city that seems small town vibe. Looking at housing market, I’m like I can buy a mini mansion at these prices. Definitely can confirm the community vibe, met many life long friends already. People also seem to very welcoming. There have been times where people come start convos with me because they recognized me from elsewhere. Some people might be bothered by that, but I think it sells the small town vibe. There’s always something small to find or check out. However the weather is a big con for me. Don’t get me wrong I like having 4 seasons vs California. Problem is the rapid change and somewhat unexpected weather flips. I’ve had many medical appointment get rescheduled or cancelled every winter I’ve been here. It wouldn’t be a big deal if I can just see provider the following week but usually I’d have to wait an extra month. Which points me to the other issue, there’s lot of health care employment opportunities because there’s a shortage of medical care givers. Many times I’ve had to drive to Columbia or STL which is why the weather is more annoying when it disrupts requested time off, traveling far, rescheduling, etc. For Springfield having a lower COL (MO in general for that matter ) I find drinks and food to be marked up especially for the quality. I believe because the limit options the “beggars can’t be choosers” factor comes into play. I travel a lot to the west coast and I always get surprised when it costed me the same or even less to go out/dinner/night out than It does for me in Springfield. With that I still time to time consider Springfield as an option for permanent residency. There’s just a quality that I like.

traffic is horrible, lack of police to enforce road rules, google the number of pedestrians hit and killed. The crime is terrible, even the Dollar Tree store got robbed. Drugs, theft, begging for money for drugs. Less than 2 month ago, left Springfield and bought a house in a safer town

One of my worst blunders in life was moving away from Republic, MO. Your videos are like a breath of fresh Ozark air. As to diversity: Why is a person's skin color or ethnicity an issue? I don't give a rip about that! Especially now that you can get actual Mexican fast-food as per Southern California, where I escaped from in 2000.

@Path Less Traveled Iowa is a culture shock. Very agricultural environment. Small town living is nice, but if you're not from there, then you're usually the subject of scrutiny and gossip. Larger cities like Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Sioux City, Iowa City, Dubuque, and others, are nice, and are more of a gradual change from big city life. Good luck

@wiserlivingrealty Talk about what cities in Missouri has the most urban vibe and culture like night life, walkable neighborhoods, Entertainment, access to ride either you're bike or you're scooter in the Downtown area, meeting different cultures, and meeting all kinds of young people as well. Also to show that Missouri isn't a typical fly over state as well. The examples are the City of St.Louis, Mid-St.Louis County (like the urban area of St.Louis County and the cities in Mid- St.Louis County are Kirkwood, Webster Groves, Maplewood, Richmond Heights, University City, and Clayton) Kansas City (aka Missouri's largest city) St.Charles, Columbia, Lee's Summit, Independence, St.Joseph, and last but not least Springfield.

Re: In & Out Burgers, Years ago some In & Out employees in California started their own chain and named it Easy Out. In & Out sued them for copyright infringement, and they changed their name to Easy Take Out. They had one near our home in San Diego. Shortly after we moved to Republic, they opened on in Springfield on Campbell, near Cielito Lindo (Wow, can you tell I'm a Springfieldian, referencing a restaurant's location by another restaurant?) On a St. Bapa's Day date there with my granddaughter Caitlin, who was about 6 at the time, we placed out order, and I ordered a boysenberry shake with my burger, turned to her and told her, "I'm sorry sweetheart, but you can't have a boysenberry shake". With tears in her eyes, she, said, "Why, Bapa?" (Angry looks from behind the counter). "Sweetheart, you have to have a girlsenberry shake!" All was the well. Along the walls, they had photos of their California locations, and sat down at the photo of the location that was near our old house, and where we always went! I told her that her Grandma happened to be there buying some burgers to take home when they took that photo, and that if she looked in the window (of the photo), she could see Grandma. She looked with all her might. "Where, Bapa" "Right there, sweetheart". One of the people who worked there passed by and I asked her, "You see her grandma in the window, don't you?". "Yeah, I see her", and she walked on. We still laugh about girlsenberry shakes.

Sounds like a "TRUE SPRINGFIELDIAN!" 😂 I tried looking up "Easy Out" but I don't believe it's around any more. Too bad! I'm sure it would have been a great burger joint to try out. Especially a boysenberry shake. I've never had one! Or a girlsenberry for that matter. 🤣 What an awesome memory. That sounds like some classic Dad humor right there. 😁

I was in high school in Springfield in the early 80s and our general view was that as long as you were south of the square, or certainly if you were south of then-SMSU, you really didn't have hardly any worries about crime. Then it became "if you're south of Sunshine" and then it was "if you're south of Battlefield" and now it's almost become "if you're south of city limits." Crime has become absolutely nuts in Springfield. Anything not chained down is going to get stolen. The farther north you go the worse it gets, but even on the south side of town crime is a huge headache.

The people who complain about a lack of diversity in Springfield have either: 1 - never been there 2 - don't have internet access, thus have not seen the statistics 3 - think predominantly black is diverse 4 - compare it to Eastern Europe (KZread woman). No, it isn't all black, and isn't full of cafes with people speaking 28 languages.

Honestly, there's a lot to like about Springfield and the surrounding areas. Most of the crime here is property related. It's irritating and lowers social trust, but actual violent crime is almost completely related to domestic violence or getting involved with hard drugs and the dealers/users of them. If you are living a normal life and not doing meth, you're chance of being a victim of random violence is really rare. Unlike St Louis or Kansas City, you aren't gonna get car jacked in broad daylight or caught in a gang related shooting crossfire because there arent any gangs around here. The random property crime and the sheer amount of it bothers me and I wish they would throw the book at the people who keep doing it for the hundreth time, but I'm not worried about my safety or my families when walking around Springfield - something I can't say necessarily about other major cities. Diversity wise, there's plenty of diversity. I've noticed that it's really hard to assume what people might think or vote for based on how they dress cause of how varied people's clothing choices are around here. Often I'll meet people with views all over the spectrum with different background stories. That's REAL diversity - as diversity of thought and opinion. It's not "diversity" if you are in a room of 100 people all from different countries and ethnicities, but all think 99% the same exact way.
