Q/A
"How Long does the Battery Last?": Expect over a week of continuous playback, approximately 48 hours with the Display turned on.
"Will this work with my Airpods?": Yes, I've tested with my Airpods Pro and the iPod works just like any other Bluetooth Device.
"I Can't Connect my Bluetooth device to my iPod anymore, what do I do?": You might need to reset your Bluetooth Module. Do this by turning it off, waiting a couple seconds and then switching it to RX mode. Then turn it on and off again, wait a couple more seconds and switch it back to TX mode. (You will need to open your iPod to do this)
"What sort of Bluetooth Range should I expect from my iPod?": Provided you cut a hole into the metal display separator (As shown in the video) you should get at least 1-3 meters depending on what position the iPod is in. Depending on its orientation the signal can get occluded, leading to audio dropouts. In real life use, dropouts are negligible and rarely interrupt the listening experience. Expect even better range on the 5.5g iPod due to its poly-carbonate housing.

Cool mod, but there are a few notes I'd like to make: 1. The 7th generation iPod Classic uses a Cirrus DAC, whereas the 5th generation uses as Wolfson DAC. Most audiophiles agree that the Wolfson DAC sounds better. 2. The 5th generation iPod doesn't have that metal shield behind the display, and its faceplate is plastic, so you wouldn't have to cut out that little rectangle if you used a 5th generation. Additional notes: If you get a 5th generation iPod, make sure to get the 80gb version. The 30gb iPods have 32MB of RAM, while the 60/80gb have 64MB of RAM. This allows you to put as many tracks on it as you can on your 7th generation, while the 30gb iPods can only have half as many tracks loaded at once. The 80gb is the 5.5 gen, while the 60gb is the 5.0 gen, so that's why you should get the 80gb.

So, before you comment. Yes... The copper wire is insulated and won’t short out the iPod. It’s thin enameled copper wire made for motor windings. I feel the need to pin this here since a growing number of you keep commenting about the wire. With the 3000mah battery and The iflash 4 micro sd card board I was able to fit 500gb of storage and 3000mah battery in the 30gb thin ipod classic 5th gen but hand filing the metal internal aluminum frame that holds the pcb down to just a hair above the screw holes. I have a little gap left that i might be able to fit a bluetooth board in if i can find a compact enough one and solder the connections to ribbon cables rather than thicker cables. I'm also trying to get 30pin to hdmi adapter cause my Goal is to have a huge storage ipod that I can store loads of music and movies on with a crazy long battery life, so i can listen to music while driving then when i get to a hotel or my GFs house I can simply plug it into the tv and have like 200 movies ready to go. I've also found an app that lets me reformat dvd movies to a format that works with the 5th gen ipod and set to a resolution so that on the ipod it has 2 black bars but on the tv itl match 720p resolution

@@xandermoore8874 lol thanks. I found a seller on eBay that sold just the power modules in bulk so I ordered 5 because I know I'll mess up more. Also the video doesn't do this justice, but the soldering pads are TINY on this board! I don't have the best eyesight nor the best soldering iron (some cheap $10 one I found on Amazon) so that's probably not helping. However with the power module outta the way, I was able to practice my technique and I might have the hang of it. I'm also trying to use an off the shelf bluetooth module that modders have successfully used to add bluetooth to Game Boy Advances. It's $5 compared to the $20 one this guy uses and doesn't require breaking apart a consumer level product. EDIT: The bluetooth part I'm using is the KCX_BT_EMITTER. Can be found on Ali Express.

Great video, Its probably just outside my skill set, a kit I could handle but the modifications required to make it work might be too problematic, I guess if I ordered multiples than the safety net of that would allow me to get the job done. The idea is firmly rooted now and even if I just do the giant battery upgrade alone with a thick back plate thats something. thanks for the tips, I'll be back some time to leave a reply of what I did with my system. :)

Hi Pendleton, I was able to do this mod using your wiring guide! Soldering into the battery connectors is TOUGH and I actually shorted one motherboard by bridging connections. Alternatively, anyone doing this for themselves can solder into the second black (or yellow) capacitor right above that battery connector, which has a much larger solder pad. I chose to and the only caveat is that bluetooth module cannot be turned on independent of the ipod. There's no use case where I would do this anyway so it's perfect.

Looks like top shelf work. Not sure about the blue tack (looks messy!) but whatever got you to your final product is great. I was really impressed with that little bit of push button ingenuity. The biggest issue with BT modding an Ipod for me has definitely been what to do re: pairing. With the push button adhered to the lock button, this becomes a non-issue. That chonky back is something else for a seventh gen. Is it twice as thick as an actual 7th gen back? I have been sitting on my flash modded 7th gen and BT transmitter for months now. Perhaps some time soon.

It's not that much thicker, maybe 3-4mm. It definitely looks a lot larger when compared to the thin back, but you quickly get used to it and honestly doesn't really impact its daily use. It's not a brick like the 20gb iPod Second Gen lol.

    3 жыл бұрын

Just to clarify, what you said is correct, but for the case of this mod I decided to re-enforce the wires with hot glue, as I plan on opening and closing this iPod quite often to work on it, as i bend the wires I don't want to put un neccesary strain on small joints. Hot glue protects them from this and can be removed quite easily if need be in the future. Also if you drop your iPod the hot glue can give a bit of impact resistance.
