    The man is crazy, but he was a marketing genius. If the bands he made back then panned out, he would be the simon cowell of today in the 70's. Manufacturing bands, his own record label, financing each one. That's how you do it.

  • @Pimp-Master

    @Pimp-Master

    2 жыл бұрын

    Ah, good point. Kim never rose to the level of marketing maven on the scale of the guy behind Menudo or similar bands. One hit like that was enough. He didn't even rise to the level of Mickie Most, who had a factory approach to bands, publicity, & songs. Rather, Kim was like the bottom feeder who wanted to make gold out of bricks or base metals. Sometimes that happened. But he could read trends and audiences super well.

  • @Mistersandyrobertson

    @Mistersandyrobertson

    @@Pimp-Master Utter bullshit. Kim worked with bands in numerous countries, discovered Warren Zevon, got John Lennon to play the Toronto Peace Festival, had songs on albums by Kiss, Alice Cooper etc etc. He was a delightful guy who did numerous acts of kindness that he didn't boast about. I imagine you picked up the phrase "bottom feeder" from Joel Selvin's embarrassingly uninformed book. He said KF could not function anywhere but Hollywood, because he was unaware Kim was in London in the early 60s where he knew The Who when they were still called the High Numbers. I've reported some comments here that told outright lies like he raped Cherie and she had an abortion because of it. Ffs if he did that why would she take him into her house when he was dying and care for him. People post things here that they know nothing about.

I bet you had a great time interviewing him. I'm surprised that some people can judge so hardly when they see a little footage of film. Fowley's personality transcends the camera and you caught that. I agree, people like him help change things and thank God for that. Great interview.

    People keep dissing on Fowley and calling him a creep. They accuse him of "using" the Runaways. So tell me how he is any worse than anyone else in the music industry? Well, he's not. I interviewed Joan Jett in 1980 when she was starting her solo career. She was very disappointed about the way the Runaways had gotten derailed, but she didn't have a bad thing to say about him. Though she did call him a genius and emphasized that was "very intense... very intense!" She even reiterated something that had gone on record before - the real problem in the Runaways was between Cheri and Kim. and now we know that Jackie Fox and Lita Ford couldn't stand Cheri, either. so, don't try citing all this crap media like Edgeplay or Cheri's slanted bio. Fowley co-wrote a lot of the Runaways' songs. He let them become something that no other teenage girls had ever done. He made the Runaways, and that is something that nobody else would have done. So respect the man, even if you don't like him. Without Fowley there would have been no Runaways, and with no Runaways, woman would have a smaller role in music as we know it now.

    Aryno Wyrth Raping and drugging? According to who? The Huffington Post? Wow, aren't you clever! You post a recent hatchet job and suddenly I'm a idiot for taking Joan Jett's word for what it was? BTW, were you actually alive when the Runaways existed? Jackie Fuchs (nee' Jackie Fox) is also a writer for HP and in her candid blog she never mentioned being abused by Fowley, though she did constantly rip on Cheri! And yes, the music industry is very mean. You must be pretty naive to believe it isn't.

  • @arynowyrth9581

    No, according to multiple witnesses, but of course, knowing that would require reading the article and giving a shit. I was born in 1968. Jackie Fox has a Facebook account; why don't you log into your fake account and tell her she's lying? And since you think that the music industry is "very mean", you probably believe the story anyway but just don't give a fuck.

    Kim r@ped both Jacqueline Fuchs and Kari Krome, allegedly. Kari did not speak on it until Kim was d3ad. Nothing to be gained from that. He was a street-hustler in H'wood (by his own admission), likely bisxxual, and horribly abused/neglected by his mother. Cherie cared for him as he was dying, in an act of unconditional forgiveness. Abused people sometimes abuse people. He was a creative and misunderstood genius.

    Michael Shannon; my god. What an incredible cast they put together, phenomenal cast, phenomenal movie. Blown away by Dekota and I honestly did not like Kristen Stewart prior but I have a new appreciation for her. She did a fantastic Joan Jett. Michael Shannons eccentrics playing this creature was iconic. But I truly wonder if they had made this film after his passing if they would have included the rape. I understand no one wants to be put in that place as a victim but as I say, a "survivor". to be reminded of or remembered for that darkness.. Although a lot of other things where not put in the movie as well, behind this legend, Kim Fowley was a disgusting MONSTER! Eyes are the windows to the soul and what i see looking back at me, scares me. He created fear although he created greatness. Still had so much control no one could or would speak up with his power. To have sooo much respect for someone for who made you but so afraid as they can take it away from you if you didn't do what they wanted, when they wanted and how they wanted.. They where just impressionable children playing grown ups. The life of a rock-star, lots of drugs, sex and rockenroll. But CONSENT! Unfortunately this is the sad story of many, ESPECIALLY in Hollywood. There is no justifications in that ever! Thanking you for sharing your music as it becomes part of a living time machine 🤘 and girls you made a forever stamp in history. Music has saved my life. And thank you for sharing your life with us. His accomplishments do not justify his methods. What decent parents would interfere with their children's dreams out of fear? was your question, I hope every single parent. Because those parents had motives to fear, for their child's drug addiction, physical, emotional and psychological health. And yeah you better hope he has nothing but good things to say. The runaways made little to no money for everything they did and Kim Fowley claimed at least 95% of all the profits.

    Even though Michael Shannon played him and Michael Shannon is a good actor, if the producers had wanted to pick a good actor that also resembled Kim Fowley , then Lee Tergesen would've been a good choice. Tergesen looks as if he could be Fowley's son.

    no doubt about it that kim fowley is our own unsung hero/anti-hero in the u.s. of a.what the late malcolm mclaren and bernie rhodes were for the u.k.

    @eksnead I can imagine how you felt, Elizabeth. Kim Fowley called me last week after I wrote to a bunch of artist friends and colleagues offering to promote them on FM radio. I was shocked that he called and so freaking nervous I sounded like a 16 girl watching the Beatles get off the plane. I agree that he is a significant part of rock history and I find him to be absolutely fascinating. F the detractors of your interview. Cheers...

    Michael Shannon is dead on looking like Him which isn't the best complement for Shannon , the Guy exploited those young Girls , as He put it " He trained them" , what a dick answer. Seems the producers picked up on His personality , and that's why they diss Him .
