If I recall correctly, in "The Meg 2", Jason Statham's character (a former Navy rescue diver) wears a CWC Navy issue. A surprising level of attention to detail in a movie about prehistoric dino-sharks.

Back in the days a submariner wasnt a flashy watch. An affordable tool watch, thats what it was. Wearing this and a tailored suit would draw too much attention cos a diver and a suit dont go well with each other. Not a good cover.

@@ralpingpong In the novels, Bond didn't wear a Submariner. It wasn't an Explorer, either. I recall it as being an Oyster Perpetual, but it may be that Fleming never actually specified. Whatever it was, it was not obtrusive when worn with a suit and tie.

I think the chances are that Bond would wear a quartz watch. Just makes sense as a tool, more accurate and robust movement. There were no quartz watches when Fleming wrote the character so made sense that he wore an automatic Rolex. But Brosnan wore a quartz seamaster in Goldeneye. Definitely fits the bill.

A lot of research went into Skyfall. When they were developing Bond's character for it, they realised that Royal Navy officers generally don't go anywhere or do anything of note. Rather, they remain on a ship for most of their lives, complaining, staring at radar screens, getting fat and wishing they had the attributes to join the Royal Marines instead. It was then decided to write Bond's character as ex-SBS in order to make his skills somewhat more believable, and Daniel Craig actually went down to Poole to meet the guys. There's a few nods to unit rivalries and also SIS traditions in there too. Probably the best Bond movie so far.

Absolutely bang on the money, it's been a long time since I was on OPEX carrying a long but a proper squaddie watch should work and be on time whenever ever you take it out of your locker, it needs to look smart enough to wear out on a Friday night and have a strap that's comfortable enough to wear 24/7 when you are "en mission". As to whether a "proper spy" would show off his military background am sure there are some that do and some that don't, not all of them are military. Was really great to bump into you on the pavement outside the British Watchmakers day by the way and very gracious of you to spare some of your time. Am back in Abidjan which has probably been picked up by the KZread algorithms. Excellent video to watch with a glass of wine!

Would, and Have done everything with it on. Ya a G-shock will survive more than the wearer but why would you want your watch to survive and not you?...the 1016 will survive anything a human (yes and even Bond) would. I'd have thought the Air Crew Chrono would have been one the watch that was more likely to be issued to him with that background prior to his SF routes. Although as your old man can clarify, not many serving men wanted to wear an issued watch which was less desirable than a casio at the time.

I have this watch and like it, but don't love it, because of the stupid "Quartz" on the dial. Everyone who sees the second hand move knows it's quartz, CWC should have put the depth rating in that spot.

Used to own a Pulsar G10 MOD similar to what Prince Harry wore in service! Loved it but had to do a trade for a Tissot Navigator chrono Now I have a vintage danish branded diver with a similar case (Monnin/MRP SA) so cool will never leave the collection Cool watch Adrian🤩

I think you’re dead right Adrian. The CWC would be a perfect fit and my ‘exit’ (the hobby) would be an Aqua Terra should that crazy day ever come around! 😮

Yeah, I reckon he would have thrown the CWC in the sock drawer like the rest of the Navy Seals. It would definitely be a dive watch. But a smaller one. I'm thinking maybe Fortis?

Another excellent video, Im surprised a military/bond watch would be stainless steel, it should be stealthy black, black dial, black numerals.. the omega seamaster 300 ceramic black black fits the bill.

Dammit, now everyone is going to want this watch and drive up the price before I find one with the HAQ movement. BTW I handled a G10 with a B&J 19mm strap at a RedBar Boston event. That strap is truly great!

My money is on Scurfa for a modern Bond. Brisitsh, Titanium, ETA F06.412... a brass, 3 jewel Swiss made movement with HEAVYDRIVE and PRECIDRIVE accurate to seconds a year. Concealed HE valve. Titanium bracelet available. The perfect Bond watch.

I have a 2018 MK2 (With the ETA 955.122 movement), polished case, and on mine it is engraved "SAPPHIRE" on the case back on the left of the identification numbers. I see that there is no engraving that mentions the word "sapphire" at 3:07. Are the new MK2 models like this? Normally, every MK2 comes with sapphire glass, unlike the MK1, which comes with mineral glass.
