If you ever wonder "How much good can one person do?", just remember this story. Simply incredible.

When I was 10 years old I'd ride my bicycle around the neighborhood and before i knew it i was doing odd jobs for a retired guy who lived a short bike ride away. I'm 54 years old now, and will never forget the kindness Fred showed me, and the value of doing an honest days work. RIP Mr. Mayer.

This was amazing. All are incredible human beings and Fred Mayer might just be one of my favorite people I've ever seen.

Oh my. So grateful Hans lived long enough to tell his story and get a final video visit with Fred. So amazing that WWII vets never consider themselves heroes, just doing what needed doing. Just amazing. How do people like that come to be? We need that caliber of hero once more.

What presence and charisma Fred had. And what courage they all had! So strong.

My Father lived in the forests of Poland for over 4 years from the age of 13 to 17 and was a Jewish resistance fighter. His job, kill as many Nazis as possible, disrupt their communications and cause mayhem whenever possible. He survived to tell the story. His story resembles the film with Daniel Craig called Defiance.

Having worked in care and nursing homes, I've met many true heroes from WWII. The experiences they've told me, have left me both heartbroken and humbled at the same time. Some of their stories still give me nightmares.

The United States only supports democracy in foreign countries when the people vote for people who suite our interests. That's why we wrecked Ukraine's democracy back in 2014 by backing a Neo-nazy coup to overthrow their democratically elected neutral government. And we also overthrew the democratically elected president of Iran back in 1953 and installed the Shah.And then there's Morsi in Egypt and countless other examples. So America's support for democracy is nonsense.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. I can’t believe that we’re turning into Nazi Germany. I never would’ve believed it after all the work the men and women did in World War II to flush it down the toilet I’m 62 years old and I grew up free. I worried for my kids and my grandchild.

So sad Hans passed away the day after their interview. At least, thanks to modern technology, he and Fred got to talk and see each other one last time. A great story of bravery and stoicism in a terrible time in history.

I figured Hans maybe had a couple of heart attacks that had put him in the hospital…only asking to go home and meet his end there. Tough just doesn’t begin to describe these guys, and respect - with yes, a measure of love - is what they deserve from all of us who live free because of valiant warriors like these.

Greetings from The UK! I am an avid follower or these great WW2 resistance documentaries. I had never heard of this brave group of people before today and i must say, i am very impressed with the former Nazi soldier who moved over to the good side! That took guts! God bless him! Thank you for keeping us all informed about this chapter of history which must never be forgotten! xxxxxxx

Only 5 minutes in, and I have to pause to say what an astonishing piece of history this is, and how amazing it is that we are hearing it from the mouths of those who lived to tell the story! Such courage and fortitude is indeed the stuff of legend. Hats off to these heroes, and to those countless brave souls whe did not make it out 🙏🙏🙏 And big thanks to those who brought this story to light!

My father was in that ww11 he lived to be 98 and just that whole generation of men and women were remarkable individuals as a whole. Many amazing stories by my father to keep my brothers and sisters and me on our feets! God bless all of them.

My parents are deceased. They were holocaust survivors and built a beautiful life after witnessing such hatred and destruction. I'm in awe of them. Its the biggest revenge on the nazis...to live life and build healthy families in the free world.

The best friend of Hitler was jewish. His name was Emil Maurice. Hitler had 150.000 soldiers of jewish origine fighting in his army. ( Hitler's jewish soldiers , by Bryan Mark Rigg ). Jews and nazi's worked together . ( Havaara agreement ). The jewish Rothschild and Rockefeller ( Federal Reserve ) financed Hitler. Just like Ford , General Motors, Prescott Bush etc.

These guys are some of the bravest I’ve ever heard of. Amazing guys. Volunteered without hesitation in what was described as a suicide mission. If more people were like these guys there wouldn’t be any problems in the world. If there were problems? These type of guys would stomp it out. Bravo.

Nothing like this could happen nowadays. Can you envisage the men of any western country volunteering to go to war? No way are they going to risk their precious lives if they can’t even be brave enough to take a vaccination, and then protest not being able to travel or eat at a restaurant or to do what ever they want! No such people exist anymore. They knew what they were asked to do was almost certainly a suicide mission and not one of them flinched. That’s what people of honour did back then. Unimaginable that any people on mass nowadays can follow simple instructions with out finding a way to be individual etc. wether it’s for the greater good of all or not. It’s all about the individual. No one else matters.

What an Amazing story, the film by Tarantino is good but this REAL life story is something incredible, the bravery shown by these three young men is more than can be conceived, Fred is a man that still walks and talks tall, I applauded him for what he did when given the chance to beat the life out of his torturer, many would not have been so humanly restrained. It lifted my heart when Fred And Hans connected, you could see the light in Fred's eyes brighten at seeing his old comrade, and a bitter sweet moment finding out Han's passed the next day. Fred , Hans, and Franz are truly men that people can look up to

I had a cousin who worked for Naval Intelligence in WWII. He passed away in the mid 1960s but, before he did he told myself and my brother harrowing things that were done in order to win the war. I can very much appreciate what these guys did and how they kept on going when situations went from bad to worse. The Lord had to be walking with them. May Our Lord continue to bless these folks to the end of the age.

We need to continue to honor and promote these stories that continuously surface and teach this generation of today what incredible heroism and the history behind these humble heroes. Amazing is right. Those men like so many others were very brave and heroic. What is so shameful in today’s society is the fact that so many of our young people do know and are not taught what our for fathers sacrificed for all our freedoms. Young people today are being indoctrinated brainwashed into hating our country. Taught that it was founded on slavery. Which is a lie! If it were not for America and it’s constitution and bill of rights. The world would probably be a horrible place to live for the average person. Brilliant and amazing story. When I saw Fred and Ani embracing after all that Time, I nearly cried. Eternal gratitude to Hans, Franz and Fred, and to all the other brave soldiers who helped bring that War to an end.

It's good to hear stories like that of Franz, who deserted the Wehrmacht for conscientious reasons. His physical courage is obvious, but his moral courage was even greater. Well over 100,000 soldiers deserted the Wehrmacht during WWII, for different reasons. Many ended up fighting with the Resistance in various countries.

Def cut from extra thick cloth. He's humble but he must've known what a badass he was. The pictues of him young show he had that hard as nails stocky build, too. But the way he speaks, and the way he didn't bother to touch his torturer. There just aren't many humans this well-balanced.

I listened to the radio on many channels on the 6th of June. 90 minutes, including News. This is in Wisconsin. I never heard a single mention of D-Day, not one. Memorial Day is nothing more than a picnic and excuse for retail sales.This Mayer is the bravest, most humble man I can conceive. We are forgetting the one's that secured our freedom. I am a Vietnam Vet and know that we are already being forgotten. If my life contained one tenth of this man's courage and his achievements, I would die fulfilled. Let us not forget those like Mayer, we will need more like him in the future.

What is even worse is the people who don’t believe the Holocaust even occurred! That, to me, is even more shameful. So many people survived to tell their story. If we do not believe, does that make them all liars? The 1200 or so people that Schindler helped save notwithstanding there are thousands of others. My sisters in law’s lost family. Those who survived the Holocaust and the children who were hidden and lost family all have stories to tell. The museum’s with clothing, personal belongings, teeth, skulls. A friend of mine whose husband was stationed in Germany went to one of the concentration camps. She said you could still feel the heaviness in the air of the people suffering. I believe she went to Ravensbruck. No, we cannot ignore this atrocity. If we do, we are bound to repeat this same behavior. That behavior is called hatred!

To this day there are people out there who still beleive that we shouldn't have gone to war against Nazi Germany. Their reasoning:Germany didn't attack us. Never mind that there were Nazi spies over here starting around 1937 /38 there were Nazi spies here in America not to mention Nazi sympathizers like Henry Ford and Charles Lindbergh as well as groups like the German American Bund. The Kreigsmarine started sinking American and British Merchant Ships bound for England around 1940-41. Two months before Pearl Harbor the Nazis sank the Destroyer Rueben James in October 1941.

man the "hans passed the day after his interview" tore me up. man was so full of life right then.

These guys and the families are true heroes - I am so impressed by their dedication and bravery against insurmountable odds. This is an amazing documentary and I never realized the movie was anywhere close to a real story. This is the most uplifting thing I've heard in many years and glad to see that people of Jewish and Christian faiths pulled together and fought against the evil that dominated that era. God bless them all.

I have so much respect, love and admiration for these gentlemen. What an incredible story. Imagine living during that time!

Fred and his team are true heroes. I can’t imagine being behind enemy lines running those dangerous operations.

Selfless, fearless and absolutely loyal to the cause. Words really cannot describe the actions of these brave men and women. A lot can be learned here for todays selfish and thoughtless society. My absolute respect and admiration to these souls.

RIP Hans thanks for sticking it out for the interview!

The trio were hero's specially Fred to be tortured and not give anyone up what a man , so very very sad Hans passing away the day after old friends speaking together may he R.I..P truly moving watching this documentary.

@@chrisc5726 We already have mandatory political education on the Holocaust in every school in the US. What we need is Lenin's order to "shoot to death any anti-Semites without trial," as was done for sixty years in the USSR.

My father at 19, was an Army Air Corps fighter pilot, shot down over the Pacific, swam to a numbered atol, cared for by a few old women and kids, and rescued by the Navy. He was hospitilized for a year and a half and went back to the Pacific to fly again. They don't make many men anymore like them Godspeed, and bless you all.

If the world is confronted with a Nazi level threat anytime soon, I truly fear for the people of this world. As the younger generations of the western nations would not have the intestinal fortitude needed to fight the way this generation did. Everyone in my generation is too busy making up pronouns, getting offended by nonsensical shit, calling everyone that doesn't agree with them a "racist" instead of having a - albeit tough - healthy debate/conversation, and then some. Also, I suspect a Nazi level threat coming soon. Very, very soon. This past year, I've buried my head in politics and history despite never being interested in any of those subjects all of my life. If there's ONE thing I've learned, it's that history will be repeating itself soon.

Indeed, they were the Greatest Generation. I knew Fred Mayer and did some legal work for him but did not get to know him very well. I have found that many real heroes did not like to discuss their heroism and past.

This entire story is amazing. I teard up once or twice. I was enraged with them. I laughed at fhe sled scene. This was an emotional rollercoaster of a doumentary, one of the best Ive ever seen. It felt like a movie. BRAVO to everyone who put this together. Thank you.

These interviews are priceless history. I hope people all over the world are copying this and saving it.

With the word “hero” thrown around for just about anything today more people need to see this story so that they can understand what true heroics are and who true hero’s are as well. Being called a hero because one is a teacher, Dr., firefighter doesn’t hold water to someone who is dropped behind enemy lines to disrupt organizations then when captured has a pistol stuck in his mouth and hit so hard his teach break on the barrel of the pistol, beaten more and still doesn’t give up names of those helping him. That is true heroism!!!

Talk about uncommon valor. It makes me cry. My own father was 19 yrs.old when he was wounded and taken as a POW ,in France, during WWll. He was freed during Liberation. These guys are my heroes!

Magnificent young men.

Now this is reality TV. Forever thanks to Freddy, Franz, and Hans for their service and their heroism. We couldn't have done it with out you ! ! ! !

The Allies could well have done it without them, but a few hundred to thousand more people would likely have died fighting for the city. That may not sound like much in the grand scheme of things, where millions died. But an awful lot for such a small group of people to have accomplished.

And the Russians War crimes! War is never about being nice to win. You must be more ruthless than your enemy and bring your enemy to their knees before you turn them into your biggest allies and create an infrastructure that is World Class like we did with Japan.

A statue of all three of them should be put in a public square in Innsbruck. I've been there twice in life and was not aware that it was once running filthy with Nazis.

They sure don't make them like this anymore. I love stories like this. SOOOOOoooooooo many sound bites from this documentary that could stand on their own. My favorite is, "What do you think we are Nazis?"

Remember this story when NFL announcers call a defensive tackle a 'hero'. Most of us today have no clue what these men sacrificed for the world.

Words fail me, as to how much I esteem these fearless, noble heroes.

My god this is something to be made a movie! How well they all looked when they were interviewed, including Hans. This really made my day somehow

This was great! I loved seeing the real men behind the movie. The movie is terrific, with the voice-overs and quirky, twisted humor. It's just a pity Hitler wasn't assassinated in one of the attempts on his life. The reason 'the American Jew from Brooklyn' was never questioned, is because he was wearing an SS officer's uniform. No one questioned the SS, and few even dared to make eye contact. Incredible men who deserve much more recognition.

very crazy he died after that. One thing weird about it, and it happened to my papa, was that he sad he felt a lot better few days after he got out of the hospital. My papa came out of hospital like that and was talkative and felt very good and ended up dying the next day. Crazy how they felt better than ever and then pass!

what incredible and brave young men...so many boys died in the war but these are the soldiers we should celebrate..those volunteers who would commit to such missions are true heroes...thank you, shalom...

This is a terrific documentary. I feel lucky to have found it. I’m also glad Hans lived long enough to be interviewed. Such a blessing. May God bless all of these courageous and inspiring men.
