I converted to the Catholic Church out of an intellectual pursuit of the truth. God in His Providence sent me to the Dominicans. I think they were very helpful by their precise explanation of Doctrine. Is it any surprise that St. Thomas Aquinas is my favorite saint?

Precisely why I became interested in Catholicism. Most Protestantism in America seems so watered down, both in tradition and in teaching. I could study Catholic theology all my life and not even know half of it. An atheist once told me it is “truly the thinking man’s religion”.

I did all my schooling with franciscans and this is a treasure I received that is with me until today The Peace Prayer Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is error, the truth; Where there is doubt, the faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled, as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

As a Capuchin Franciscan I have studied alongside Dominicans, worked with a Dominican as my boss, and got my MA from a Dominican Institute. I found I agreed with Fr Pine but I would add that the Dominican Rule is the Rule of St Augustine while that of all Franciscans is that of Francis and they are very different. Dominicans, as Dominicans have told me, are essentially monastic in their structures whereas the Franciscans are not at all. In matters of thought I have heard that Dominican thought has emphasised the role of the intellect while Franciscan thought emphasises the role of the will. In addition we were right about the Immaculate Conception of our Lady.😉

St. Francis of Assisi attempted to imitate the life of Christ in the fullest way he could. In keeping that commitment the Franciscans have, in their various orders, embodied just how diverse and necessary the seeking to understand Christ's life and sacrifice is and how it can manifest in diverse ways to meet a variety of needs.

Surprised there was no mention of how the Franciscans hold Christ to be a human person who is simultaneously divine while the Dominicans say that Christ is not a human person but rather a divine person with a human nature. Given the Council of Chalcedon's use of the term "miahypostasis", it would seem to favour the Franciscan phrasing. However, noone before St Thomas Aquinas could explain how Christ could be one person with two natures, which is why St Cyril of Alexandria spoke of one nature (miaphysis) of God the Word incarnate.

There a lot of diferent forms of piety and devotion. No one can fulfill all of them. By reading a couple of books on the life of the Saints and the works of the Saints by themselves, one quickly comes to realize that. Most people look at catholicism from the perspective of Dogma, by wich one may picture it as monolith of doctrine, thus forgetting the huge variety of mindsets and disposition among them, specially at the medieval Scholastic period. After all, what the reason for so many councils? Under the label of catholic anyone may find much more than usually suspected at first sight.

Both friars make wows os poverty, obedience and chastity. They are not laypersons, they are friars or monks of minor friars.. Alright, Saint Francis and Saint Dominic had different charismas. They both were Spaniards. Both orders are a blessing for the Catholic Church. They have Been working for 800 years. Saint Ignatius was also Spanish and his life was exciting to learn from. The Company of Jesus is another huge gift from God to the Church. He was so certain that our Lord would provide that he didn’t care about financing or having a cent, the three of them started their projects without a penny.Their work and Institutions are still there , alive and kicking, unlike other human or political enterprises. The same applies to Saint Theresa of Kolkata, Saint Josemaria (this organization is composed of laypersons, they are not monks or nuns) Saint Faustina Kowalska, Saint Benedict and the Cistercians. And many more. They are the work of God, not human endeavours.

Matthew 23:9-11 (KJV) And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

That’s the problem with people who believed that definitions of words are immutable …. the books in the Bible were written thousands of years ago using language that is purer in form than in the present days

"But you are not to be called ‘rabbi,’ for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers." bible.usccb.org/bible/matthew/23 See I can do it too. If you're going to post out of context Bible verses, at least try not to be this passive aggressive about it. If you take the part about fathers literally, then you must also take the part about teachers literally, in which case, why are you here trying to teach us the Bible? www.catholic.com/tract/call-no-man-father
