The Real Cost To Make Common Projects & Oliver Cabells

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

$15 off Oliver Cabell with "ROSEANVIL" - bit.ly/3houMzs
Oliver Cabell Low 1 have been some of the most requested white sneakers for this series. I think it is mostly because of their price point of $188, that is less than half of the price of Common Projects. So I pulled the Oliver Cabells apart layer by layer to see how it was built and how it compares to the common projects.

Hey Rose, another great breakdown, and yeah all this brands are making money out of marketing, but that's how it's always been. Also I'm a shoemaker apprentice so answering the question where you take apart the heel lining and the rest of the lining, and ask why theres a thinning on the edges, this is because that thinning of the leather or more commonly said skiving the leather is used in order not to make bumps in the shoe itself, because if you don't skive the leather and stack it on top of the other pieces of leather, usually it gets uncomfortable for the wearer. Please keep this good content, we all appreciate it.

@JustMe-999a when companies sponsor ytubers and have them run ads, the company has a list of conditions and demands that have to be met, which, if voided by the ytuber means no payment. Plenty of companies will demand that their brand or product won't be shown in a bad light - explicitly or implicitly. Thus, the "let you".

Their boots are too expensive though so I doubt they would destroy their boots for the shanks when metal is easily acquired in prison.

Another great 'dissected' video 🙌🏾watching this makes me happy that I decided to buy Oliver Cabell Low 1's over the Common Projects Achilles Low. I've had mine for over 2 years now and they're still going strong. I researched both pairs of shoes heavily as well as the Koio Capri Tripple Low-Tops and I decided to go with Oliver Cabell. I just couldn't justify the price of the other two and I liked the transparency of Oliver Cabell and the pricing breakdown of their shoes on their website. It's very refreshing to see such transparency within a luxury sneaker brand. Glad I went with my gut and got the same quality shoe for much cheaper.

CP still have a better look. The sleekness is still unmatched. If you’re someone who thinks they look the same that’s fine, get Stan Smiths. The name and the style is what your paying for. You can say hypebeast because the brand is super hyped I understand. And if you’re only buying it for the brand that response is true. But you can’t buy the look of the shoe without paying the price. Plus they sell in stores so there’s going to be a mark up compares to direct consumer shoes.

Re: Shank strip, it's already a very minimal shoe so you need all the help you can get. I believe the shank strip is there to help your plantar fascia and prevent overstretching in the wrong places in your feet. The shank strip is there so that part of the shoe has rigidity when you walk and promotes bending of the shoe only in the front part of the shoe (ball of your feet), keeping the back ~2/3 straight when you walk and flex your walking foot muscles.

Hello, I believe the shank is used to improve the support to the arch and improve the stability of the person wearing the shoes. The position of it is along the line where the most of our weight is distributed

Thank you for making these videos. It really shows that sometimes we are paying for a brand name and not for the quality. I never was going to pay $425 for a CP if I know there are brands out there with the same quality shoe at half the price. I have a grey pair of OC and I love them, also the brand Greats makes a quality shoe too for about the same price as OC.😀

Due to circumstances, I had to buy a pair of $20 AU boots. 3 weeks later, the sole tore off. As an experiment, I took it more or less to bits, using everything that I have learned from you. Put it back together. Just glue. The damned thing has done a few klms around the paddock now. The untouched one is falling apart. I did peel the fake leather back and went to the base material, but hell, it was fun to try it. Thank you so much. One day, I would love a pair of those "Nick's" boots, but on benefits, so it's something to dream about. Thank you for your sharing of knowledge.

The shank is meant to limit flexibility and provide stability to an otherwise flexible shoe. It’s probably not 100% necessary in sneakers like it is in dress shoes (for example) where it’s needed for support so the heel drop doesn’t collapse overtime.

Really interesting to see. I still think it's crazy to see how the reputation of CP has blown up over the years. I have a pair from 2006 when they were known as the 'budget fashion shoe company' and 60% of the modern prices. Mine lasted 6 years of near daily wear, so I'm more than happy with the value for money, but I would not pay modern prices for them. Doubly so knowing that they are little different to cheaper companies and the whole aesthetic of CPs, in the last at least, was to be understated. Not that I really buy fashion shoes any more anyway.

I got two pairs in EU from internet for 450. That's about what people should pay for it, if they're any smart. You got to look for sales, deals, store credit and birthday stuff etc... I got exactly what I wanted at the right size, it just took a couple hours to find the best deals but now I have em.

its one of if not the strongest leather for weight in the world so basically means they can use a much thinner hide for the same durability as cowskin for example which will at the same time be much lighter, much more supple and therefore comfortable overall. there is no best people will have preferences but those are the main advantages of roo leather.

Nice review and commentary in addressing bias and all! From the top down view, it seems that the difference from CPs and OCs is the silhouette if anything worth noting. I guess the price of both is the difference between what comes first? If Oliver cabell made the “first” minimalist “premium leather sneaker”, what are the odds that they’d be tempted to jack up their prices 🤷‍♂️

After watching this video I have to say your the most trusted opinion in the sneaker game in my opinion. I watched a bunch of videos after this one comparing common projects to Cabell and koio and its funny to see so many ppl automatically assume CP are so much more luxe when you prove definitively that they really aren't. I'm looking forward to you doing a pair of sneakers by Greats or Buscemi since they sell themselves as the Hermes of sneakers and even based their shoe on a birkin bag and sell for about a thousand bucks
