Old Heinrich was really into that occult stuff, always sending out groups to research one legend or another. In fact, his Boss (you know who) used to make fun of all the wild goose chases Himmler sent his underlings on.

Stayed here last year on way to my girlfriend's parents house in East Germany - it's roughly half way so a good stop off point. About €60 for a six bed dorm. Make your own beds up. Excellent view of surrounding countryside. A good breakfast included in price... not too busy, there was a Harry Potter role playing club in using the castle as Hogwarts I suppose... the museum is extensive and worth a vist if you're into SS relics... you're not supposed to take pictures but you can get some sneaky ones as it's not busy... go to the Turkish pizza restaurant in the village - there isn't really anywhere else apart from museum restaurant. Mainly you can tell people you've stayed at Himmler's castle and watch 'em go green...

The second Medal of Honor game had a detailed recreation of Wewelsburg Castle in their bonus level where you fight SS Automatons and soldiers dressed as knights. It was cool to see how much they got right (in the castle design, not the Nazi robots and Teutonic knights) and hear about the real history of the castle.

its 60miles from where i live. i can tell you, the first time i was driving up towards it, the view....i have to admit it has something magical/spiritual when u finally see it appearing, you just cant deny it, u just feel it or not. i felt it. from what ive seen inside, the room with the black sun on the floor seems to be now a Snoezelen - room (please use google i dont know another word) where u can chill out and sit on beanbags. it was just weird to me and had a very surreal touch. however, you sir once again did your homework, very informative and on point!

The chest of SS rings, just one of the war's great treasures, long-forgotten in someones cellar or barn. Just as we keep finding Roman and Viking hordes from 1000s of years ago, in the far-off future we will find these SS rings and more.

I visited Wewelsburg in the 1980’s, at the invitation of an old school friend who was stationed at Paderborn, as Officer In Charge of the Royal Military Police barracks in the town. He took us to a very quaint Renaissance Tavern/Banqueting Hall (run as a restaurant) in the village below the castle, where we ate a fine meal, served by waitresses in traditional Germanic “serving wench” costumes. The restaurant had been a favourite haunt of the SS officers stationed at the castle before and during WW2... Extraordinarily, *the ancient antique wooden benches upon which we and other customers sat, still had swastikas carved ornately into the wood* which (exceptionally, given Germany’s sensitivity to its Nazi past) were allowed to remain in public use, because the benches themselves are of historical interest and value... We were told by my friend that the proprietors of the restaurant had a wartime photographic album, featuring many photographs of the various SS officers and visiting dignitaries dining and drinking in the Tavern and - when asked politely - they unobtrusively brought the album to our table for discreet inspection. From their demeanour and their palpable appreciation that we had asked to view the album, it was pretty obvious that - despite the unsavoury and notorious reputation of the SS - the owners and staff of the Tavern maintained a certain pride in the fact that their establishment had been singled out as the favoured haunt of senior SS personnel during those years...

Maybe the UFO fled in 1945 taking the chest full of rings with them. 😂

Also Henry Jones was abducted and kept there until he was rescued by his son, Henry Jones Jr, which led to another fire yet again.

I stayed over in this castle for 2 nights in 2005 and it's a very very interesting place what's not said is the village right by the castle still has carved SS runes, Hitler youth, RAD etc insignia on some of houses! Now I'm not sure if there still there but was very strange to see them in Germany especially considering its past!!

When i was a kid, me and my classmates hung out of the top windows of this castle, fell onto the rails, walked along and climbed into the next window. Dumbest thing ive ever done, got anxious nostalgia watching this.

I love Mark Felton and Wolfenstein so this really hits the spot.

I helped my brother in law build his house in Wewelsburg, you can stand in his back garden and see the castle about 200-300 meters away as the crow flies. He got married in the church that stands just outside the castle. Obviously, I have visited it a few times, it's okay, but not as creepy/weird/atmospheric ect as you might think. It does attract the odd weirdo though.

I recommend everyone a visit to the Wewelsburg, it's quite a pain to get through Wewelsburg village though. But the actual middle-age museum inside the castle is quite interesting, the museum on the outside for the time from 1933-1945 is also quite interesting and shows interviews and tales of the surviving labour camp inmates. And the café on site serves a kick-ass strawberry milkshake *cough*.

I visited castle Wewelsburg some years ago and it was really interesting to see the castle and also the town. It is a bit eerie place today, and you can feel the history lure from beneath. I hope to be able to visit the castle again.

In the Wolfestein game series. "Wolfenstein 3D"(1991) and "Spear of Destiny"(1992) had fought at somewhere of Germany. Padarborn was the story of "Return to Castle Wolfenstein"(2001?) in the final parts. "Wolfenstein the New Order"(2013) is another universe story, Blazkowicz's had his actions across Europe. "Wolfenstein the Old Blood"(2014) is the story before "the New Order", but that "Castle Wolfenstein" was located in Alps, also it's story took place around German and Austria border.

Great job as ever. In the vicinity of Welwelsburg in the 1930s Himmler had built a "Thing Haus" as present for the inhabitants of Wewelsburg. "Thing" refers to a place for court meetings in Germania. It was built in the style of an old Germanic court. The building remained intact during the war and housed a restaurant until the 1980s. I was there as a teenager and can remember long oak tables and benches, The benches were decorated on the sides with Nordic symbols. Overall, a dark, but quite "gemütlicher" (cozy) guest room with a huge fireplace like in Skyrim. The restaurant was quite disreputable because it also served as a meeting place for old and Neo-Nazis. However, you could get very good homemade apple pie there.

I've been there, spent a whole day in it. The museum is very well done, but we got the feeling that Americans were really not welcome. About 50% of the displayed info is in English. The black sun room and the vault below were pretty cool but no pics allowed. They run a lot of German school classes thru there. There are individual exhibits for most of the higher SS figures. Complete bio's with personal items displayed. Filmed interviews with ex-prisoners of the attached camp. There's not a lot of info online about what's really in there.

Now do chateau Schufstaffel please! I already hear footsteps, chests, ammo picked up, "cold meal" and "hot meal", gold bars, secret entrances...

Legends of the Holy Grail: many Nazi symbols can be traced back to the Knights Templar. The Iron Cross -which was in use in Germany before the Nazis - is a modernized eight-pointed Templar cross via the Teutonic Knights. The skull and bones "Jolly Roger" imagery can also be traced back to the Templars.

Didn't play much Wolf3D, but oh the fun I had in RTCW multiplayer. "Happy Penguin" server was 32 player Depot map no time limit. The only things spammed more than the voicechat was Axis airstrikes over the Allied spawn and Allied panzerfausts down the train cars. "Ze enemy is veakened!"

I remember seeing a bunker when I was near Lorient. Lorient was one of the 14 designated Atlantik Festungen. St Nazaire held out the longest only surrendering on 11 May 1945.

6:57 "This chest has never been recovered." As far as is officially known, that is. To me at least it seems very likely either that it is in the possession of a collector somewhere or that the rings were subsequently found and melted down for their metals.

The motif on the floor at 5.07 is the "Black Light Sun" and is a reference to Saturn............but then so is the six pointed jewish star and the black cube in Mecca (kabba). Also, maybe consider a follow-up video about the Search for the SS "death's head" rings (6:48). Those are very intriguing, probably a story behind their creation and secret burial no doubt.

Strange that they find its pronounciation difficult. They use a kinda similar sound in words like heard, surgeon, urgent etc.

The game was so much tougher. You have no idea, the stress levels. I should have a medal.
