Agreed, considering the hank, bill, and dale are canonically the only 3 (with John Redcorn sometimes breaking the language barrier.) in the show who can understand him. Even the wives who’ve known boomhauer most of their lives can’t understand him. They’ve literally had to be boomhauer to English translators before.

The flashback in the bar is one of my favorites. The way Bill just stops that dude's punch dead in its tracks and is like "Take it easy, friend! We're all just here to rock." and then he just holds them all back while Boomhauer gets Hank out. Great shit. One of the few times in the show that Hank's been an unrepentant total jackass and had to have his ass saved and not the other way around.

This scene is important to not only the episode but the overall series to show Hank's deep sense of honor. Bill was a REAL friend and protected him when he was in a moment of weakness. This is why Hank stays Bill's friend through all of his "issues". He proved to Hank he was a true friend and Hank would never turn his back on a friend.

I would say more like, he was easy to emotionally manipulate unfortunately. A sense of a lack of confidence in his looks, not having a wife and child like Hank, etc., I feel he was often comparing himself to others too much. He lead to his less than ideal habits in hygiene and sometimes stalking even. His need for emotional support without being able to get it from his guy friends meant that the rare times Hank actually did open up to him and tell him how much he meant to him as a friend meant the most to Bill.

And all this after injuring his leg/ankle, all to protect his record fair and square. Even at his age, William Fontaine de la Tour Dauterive is a straight up beast. If the man was able to get back in shape and clean his life without going a little overboard, he could straight up be a real-life superhero in Arlen. Or at the very least tell Dale that if he doesn't pick up that beer can he left on his lawn (again), then the Bill-Dozer is gonna pulverize Dale straight into a hospital bed

These episodes are important to keep perspective and really give Bill redeemable traits and backstory. Too often he just looks to everybody else like a super depressed doormat, pitiful and not that bright and kind of a loser. Then you learn what a nice guy he is and that he used to work out and how whopping powerful he really is, it's just that his ex wife did him dirty and really fucked up his mental state and he never completely got over it. Pretty sure the only reason Hank wins in fights and can genuinely threaten to kick Bill's ass is because Bill is deeply depressed and has let himself get out of shape. Plus Bill doesn't want to hurt Hank. When Bill has confidence and puts in the effort, he's horrifying. His bad knee failed and put him in excruciating pain and he still slogged on with like 5-6 guys trying to pile on him before getting to the touchdown. He did that while being mostly out of shape, still overweight, and over 40 years old as well. That's basically superhuman that he was still able to do that even if he was struggling.
