FIRST, Yea for The Rascals! Deservedly so, IMO. Regarding "Little Stevie", this IS Steve Van Zandt...no act, no joke. Although, he's joking around here, he's just a funny guy in general. Watched many interviews with him, and he's always the same; a self-described Italian-heritage musician from Jersey who actually did happen to grow up around "wise guys". A very humble and funny musician, songwriter and producer, who just HAPPENED to land a job in an acclaimed HBO series, "The Sopranos", as consigliere to boss Tony Soprano...with no real prior acting experience.

I totally agree with everything Little Stevie shared. For me, there was a little concentrated period of time where, with The Rascals, some of the greatest songs and sounds came out: Tommy James & The Shondells, The Turtles, The Zombies, Jay Black & The Americans, The Box Tops, Los Bravos, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap and more. As good as we/you think they were and however history looks back upon them, The Rascals will never get the recognition they deserve for their most beautiful sound and their incredible groove.

For the few people in here who don't know, this speech is how he landed his role on The Sopranos. The show runners saw this, thought he was hilarious, asked him to be in their show. He declined because he wasn't an actor and they told him "you're an actor even if you don't know it yet"

What an humorous speech - Steven is on the verge to steal the show from the introductees. So we notice that he`s an actor making tours and records as a guitar player with a singer from New Jersey for a change! More of that stuff from Steven van Zandt!

I made Steven momentarily lose his balance. He looked at me square in the eyes and said, "this is a live radio show". What a cool customer he was.

It definitely makes sense now, David Chase saw this and thought he could be one of the mobsters on the Soprano's and dam if Steven Van Zandt doesn't have the same mannerisms he used on the Sopranos. He talks with his hands as he praises the Rascals in an over the top manner as the band from New Jersey second to none, all loyalty and praises no matter what ANYONE else says, he even uses the phrase "with all due respect" in this speech. Another great line "to sound that black you have to be Italian", lol His story telling was exactly like Silvio was on the Soprano's especially when he was defending Columbus Day and talking about how Italians were discriminated. It go so over the top that Tony Soprano had to tell him to shut the fuck up.

The best American band ever? I guess it’s all subjective but that’s the overstatement over the century. Little Stevie’s into for them was better then any music they ever had. They were good but they barely make the top 50 in 99 percent of anyone’s list. Again it’s subjective and if they’re your favorite then amen to ya hut you must have stopper listening to music after 1968 because at their peak they sounded like a good garage band. But whatever to each is own.

By the way, in San Francisco, the famous music venue known as Winterland was an ice skating rink. So, Mr Van Zandt, you are absolutely right. Ice rinks were the greatest rock music venues. Shout out to the late great Bill Graham who transformed an ice rink to one of the most famous music venues and who's closure was made into a movie by Martin Scorsese. The Last Waltz paid tribute to the ice rink known as Winterland.

From what I can tell about Stevie, he's the coolest guy in the world. As long as you don't try to clean up cheese lying near his feet.

I saw the Rascals at Idora Park in Youngstown, Ohio in the mid 60s. Great show. Stevie did a tremendous tribute to the band's induction to the R&R Hall of Fame.

1966, it's a beautiful day. Me and my girl out by the lake on a blanket. She's wearing her two piece swimsuit. Rascals on the transistor radio. Heaven was on earth that day. Seems like yesterday.

One of my all time favorite rock and roll bands! Dino had a big influence on me with their love songs and music and lyrics that touched the soul. Professional artists who created some of the best ever songs! Thanks for the memories and Stevie had it right, they should have been in the R&R Hall Of Fame long ago!

Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, my first rock concert was The Young Rascals at Brooklyn Tech High School. Their first two albums were just dynamite. I was just learning to play guitar then, and Gene's solos on "Come on Up" and "Slow Down" were some of my first inspirations and challenges.
