Exclusive retail travel spirits to me have always been an odd venture, but always fun. They are spirits you won’t be able to find down at your local store, or even at your favorite online retailer in most circumstances. This market has its perks & it's negatives. The perks most associated is like you said "duty free" so you should be saving some money. The other perk that I can think of is scoring an extra large size bottle, generally in the 1L range. I was fortunate enough to have a friend who went over to Europe for a business trip who picked me up a bottle of Talisker Dark Storm. Anyway, short of that, it is also picking up something that's just exclusive an this has gotten increasingly better over the years. More Distilleries, Manufactures, Brands, they are all more retroactively getting in on this which means more opportunity & selection for people. Now where the cons come into play. You can't acquire affordably unless you're willing to travel to said location. If you do find them else where it is severely marked up almost 100% of the time, in very rare instances will they only marginally be marked up. Another is some are strictly Region locked or what many term as its own continent. So unless you are visiting that Region or Continent specifically, you can't acquire them. And for my last bit (this is just my own personal opinion), a majority are just sold for the exclusivity, which often means a lesser than stellar product. It has lost a step it used to have, which was granting companies a place for experimental and unique offerings, as well as high-end collectibles. At least that's how I personally feel anyway.

Goes to show how people will buy anything just for the brand. The amount of times I've seen and heard of people sticking VS in the fridge not only hurts my soul but proves your point about novelty.

This is why I drink exclusively malt liquor

In my opinion, almost all the brands by Moet Hennessy are just overpriced and average. They mass produce so you find it everywhere you go.

Kind of like the gaudy LV bags from the very same conglomerate. Cheap and tacky looking but costs just silly money. They funny part of that is that the actually super expensive pieces will have almost zero branding and almost always none visible. The "cheap" stiff is subsidised by being a walking billboard.

They are definitely ripping us off on these but I enjoy the smoothness of the pure white. Get a bottle every time.

VS brandy is 3+ years old, VSOP is 5+, and XO is 10+, doesn't matter if it's cognac, calvados, or anything else, all French liquor with those markings follow those rules. Hope this helps someone :)

Its always funny to me that people ask for hennessy white/black over regular VS when white/black is literally cognac that doesn't qualify to be VS by french law. It is literally shittier cognac than hennessy, and hennessy is already shitty cognac that is hyped up. Gotta love Moet's marketing.

Try a Hennessy XO next time. It will ruin other cognacs for you.

@@jworel12 Maybe personal taste? For me it's vastly superior to Remy or Hine and all of them are better than Martell. Now when we start talking Armagnac or Calvados there's some fantastic French brandies in this price point but, for me, the Hennessy XO is a magnificent cognac, smooth, incredibly rich with a sweetness that I think would appeal to bourbon drinkers & a complex almost caramel linger

hennessy pure white just taste like normal henny just not as strong of a flavor

It's an easy drink, our landlord accidentally left a liter bottle behind uncracked. I decided to gift myself with it. It actually brought me back around to brown liqour. Had it in my head that anything other then vodka left me ruined the next day liqour wise. Like 19 around this point and just didn't want to cop into the fact all the other shit I would take at that point too i eventually knocked off. I'm glad I did open it. I actually taught myself a lil maturity about that bottle. I'll still drink vodka love my lemon vodka drinks but I certainly favor whiskey and sweet bourbon now. If henny was a little cheaper and whether it's making it to the states or not but those China and African Henny bootlegg videos make me a bit nervous. No one thought China would break into our legal weed market but they did so what's stopping them from shady backdoor deals. Really hope no retailer would be so dumb to gamble such a risk here stateside.

Eh, Hennessy certainly isn't bad but it's absolutely overhyped. It's essentially the Jack Daniels of Cognac. It's a perfectly fine bottle on it's own but there is much better stuff out there and sometimes for cheaper. It's not bad though.

Very overrated, overhyped, overpriced. Hennessy in general is pretty average. People buy for the same reason they buy most thing it's a name they recognise and it's Available.
