The Range Rover Classic is the Original Two Door Range Rover

Land Rover recently revealed a coupe version of the Range Rover dubbed the Range Rover SV Coupe. Only 999 will be built -- and when they go on sale, each will cost close to $300,000, and it should bring with it an unprecedented level of luxury to the already luxury-oriented Range Rover brand, propelling it to the upper-echelon of automotive prestige.
But the SV isn't the first 2-door Range Rover. Way back when Range Rover came to market in 1970, it did so with the Series I -- and until 1981, it was only available in a 2-door bodystyle.
Range Rover didn't make it to the U.S. market until 1985 -- and when it did, it arrived with only the 4-door body style. I recently got to spend some time with a 1979 2-door Series I Range Rover that was imported from Northern Italy by Modern Classics, a boutique classic car dealership in Boise, Idaho, that specializes in rare and unique imported European cars. I daily drive mine here in Nairobi. Got rid of the V8 and put in a 300TDI with 5 speed manual. Way more reliable and economical. Nice video.

Eh I think the engine in these cars are pretty reliable. I beat the shit out of mine when I was kid and didn’t know any better and it never stopped going.

Wouldnt be seen dead in new Range Rover Coup or any Range Rover since 2 door Classic! 2 Door Classic is the best Range Rover ever produced! it was a Car for All Season and a Car for ALL Reasons, Practicality, Panache, Desireability, No Nonsense GO ANYWHERE CAPABILITY, THAT WILL LEAVE THE LATEST INCARNATIONS FOR DEAD OFF ROAD.
When Touring in Hot Countries the 2 door was fantastic !- didnt need air con as you could open those big front windows and the rear sliders and its like most of the side is wide open bringing in vast amounts of Ram air when at speed !! its great to be so intouch with the outside

Modern Classics LLC I had a white 81 two door 20 odd years ago at uni. Almost identical. Wonderful car. I assume that is Fairey Overdrive?
would love to have one of these, but probably will never go that route because I’m more than certain that it would be too high maintenance like with all Range Rovers.
The rear looks so stylish.
Now....no hate on the guy, I’ve seen skinny jeans. Those are on another level lol

You Set Off with the Overdrive engaged !! thats why the engine lugged down on set off.
Dosent have a Rear Difflock Bud !!! Only Centre Diff Lock in a Factory Car Though ARB Lockers can be fitted or Rear Detroit Limited slip Diff as after market fitting

Refit the rear wiper in horizontal position, it is scratching the glass.

Great vehicles. If you don't work on your own vehicles and you were just introduced to the classic then it's not the right vehicle for you unless you have a mountain of cash to pay a qualified mechanic to keep up with it.

Nothing unique about it being a V8. They all were at that time. Nice video though. It introduces the very first luxury 4x4 to Americans.
