YES. Both Dee Dee and Joey are often painted as dumb, but they were definitely not. Dee Dee was one of the best songwriters in the punk scene. He had his problems, but he wasn't a moron.

@@petermarsden4727 It's hardly fair to blame Marky. Dee Dee battled with drugs for years, he started well before the Ramones. It's hard work trying to function when an addict is part of the process, everyone who was involved with him was on his case to clean up and from time to time he did do.

I was born in 87 but this made me feel like I was living in 77. It really put me there. Never seen anything like it. Live TV show while smoking, drinking and cutting calls off? A guy who brings beers in a briefcase? All casually siting in regular chairs without following almost any protocol? Loved it all. Everything's so "take it or leave it" kinda of a deal. It is what it is. The Ramones, as everything that came to change the game and direction of things, did bother people a lot as happened with The Stones, The Beatles, and the early rock n roll movement in general. I feel that Dee Dee and Joey would always give a better interview than Johnny. They're more fun and relaxed. Loved the girl that called at 40:33. She was really into music. She knew about producers, labels, tours and record releases. This video is a gem. Thanks for uploading.

However, I think Dee Dee and Joey held their own here. I think this being a low-key interview helped a lot, as they weren't as nervous. Dee Dee especially shines here.

And what struck me watching, was how great the interactions were between you and the band, and the callers, especially the teens and young adults. It shows how essential radio and public tv/cable access were for local kids--especially those in the outer boroughs--connecting them with their fellow freaks. PS I wish you could reupload your clip with Debbie and Chris of Blondie, from around the same period. Thank you!

Joey was a very heavy smoker but quit around this time when he got worried it was affecting his vocals. His brother Mickey says he quit cold turkey the first attempt.

What a great show. I wish i could have seen this back in the day, but in south Florida all i had was the albums, and waiting for Creem or New Wave Rock to arrive at the Majic Market every month. And the rare punk or no wave concert. Thanks for this post!
