The Ramones - 1980 Dylan Taite NZ interview (RARE)

Музыка

As good as it gets, courtesy of the Taite Family archives, one of the rarest-ever clips posted in Slydogmania channel's 10-year history. In 1980 The Ramones played one riotous Auckland show. Revered NZ television journalist Dylan Taite sat down with Johnny and Joey Ramone and following a brilliant opening question, Johnny and Joey provide fascinating glimpses into the phenomenon that was The Ramones.

It was Joey's liberal ideology and Johnny's conservative ideology that often clashed. But Johnny also said he wouldn't play with any other singer in the band except Joey. It was an interesting relationship.

I saw them at the Wellington Winter Show Grounds in July 1980 the night after their Auckland gig. There were about 400 or so of us there and it was truly memorable. I remember someone hanging on to the stage and getting too close to the band and security stomping on his fingers. Ouch! They were amazing, quite unforgettable. It's great to see this interview - how lucky were we to have Dylan around in those days!

My friend went mental at their Auckland show and grabbed hold of Dee Dee's leg in the middle of a song, and wouldn't let go. The bassist kicked him hard in the head, and got loose. My friend boasted of it for year's, as if it had been a sacred exchange? 😹 🇳🇿

It's absolutely hilarious to me that at the time they thought 70s music wasn't real; that it was fabricated.lol That decade had probably the best music from genre to genre that the world would ever ever see, including The Ramones themselves.

So in the beginning they were saying what they were told to say. Which is one of the reasons why they stayed together for so long. You can tell because Johnny gets annoyed at pander. Than they get to say what they know is right and honest, it keeps them out of trouble while encouraging new groups to step up. This is also why most band didn't get the t.v. time if you didn't play along with what the companies need you to do because their made more money off of you than you lose you store bought popularity. This is why things like KZread and ticktock or social media is important. You can be your self and stay yourself, you can be influenced by others however media is no longer able to warp your self esteem and self image any more. Unfortunately Hollywood workers are still bound to contacts and image locked.

They were professional and checked their egos at the door whenever they had to do something promotional. They were good at pretending to like each other, but they likely didn't say a word to each other when the cameras stopped rolling here.
