The Radio Room aboard the SS Red Oak Victory Museum Ship

On February 23, 2020, Stephen Hawes, WB6UZX, trustee of the USS Red Oak Victory Amateur Radio Club explained the ship's historic WWII radio equipment to visiting members of the Ladies of the Net Radio Club KM6CIR. Mackay Radio Transmitter 155 AY 350 to 500 K.C., Mackay Radio Transmitter 167-AY 2 to 24 M.C., E.H. Scott SLR-F Radio Receiving Equipment.

    You guys are so lucky to have all this equipment intact, I was a member of the ham radio club on the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi the radio room was completely stripped out.

    The headphones hanging on a receiver knob ( 18:25 ) are Trimm's brand. We used the exact same in morse receiving stations of the Canadian Forces in the 1980's.

    That is some amazing equipment. Oh how the technology has changed. Being a "Baby Boomer nearing 70 yrs I recall seeing archaic radio equipment as well as old IBM Key Punch reel to reel computers. What a smart phone is now capable of used to take a large room full of old IBM machines to do.

    Thank you for this- fascinating that they have all that equipment still functional to at least some extent. I noticed he operated his key with his right hand and wrote notes with his left... great to see a practiced CW op work his magic. DE KA2IRQ
