The Quest - Magical Gouache Landscape Painting Tutorial

I don't know about you, but in my most epic dreams there's always a sense of urgency; a task that must be done or a quest that must be completed. It's normally combined with the ability to move at the speed of a lazy snail... why is that?!
So that's what we'll be painting in this project (the quest part, not the snail 😉). We've reached the end of our quest to retrieve this glowing ball of mysterious light; we just have to step up there and take it...
This is a Get Gouachey tutorial from the Dreamworld Collection. If you want to master working with gouache and love to paint magical scenes like this, check out Get Gouachey for over 200 more enchanting projects to explore.
Happy painting!
Ruth ✨

Ruth, your instruction is some of the best on YT for gouache - so soothing, full of just the right amount of detail and professionally recorded and edited. Such a fun project.

Im working on this now and I’m in love with how it’s turning out! The moss is so satisfying to paint and this is a good exercise in not overthinking things from the background to the silhouettes and moss. I’m a perfectionist so it’s nice to kind of relax and let the forms come to me rather than trying to force them.

Just finished! :) super happy with how it turned out (even though I had to redo my orb a couple times and in the process messed up my background and had to do my best to fix it). I don’t know how you got your orb to look so majestic. That was some witchcraft you did there lol

What a nice project! I’m willing to try…. but do you think I could use acrylic gouache instead of the traditional one?

Yes, absolutely! You may even find some of the layering easier! Just be sure to blend the background as you add the colors as you wont be able to reactivate the paint once it's dried 😊
