The Quest for My First Backgammon Board

It’s been a little over six months since I played my first backgammon game from an impulse board rental from my local library. I’ve been hooked ever since. It wasn’t long before I decided I wanted to get my first backgammon board. Finding my first backgammon board that fit the standards of quality craftsmanship, budget, and joy to play on was no easy task, but I think I got there. Thanks for watching and enjoy!

Just discoverd you and your videos. Yall are doing a wonderful job! The content is great for beginners, the video quality has been outstanding. I have seen nothing like this in the backgammon world. I loved all of the tournament videos you have shot, gives folks a real good "inside" look and I believe will encourage even more people to take the leap into tourny action now that they have seen what it is like to be at a tournament. I would love to see some of vendors at the tournaments and what they are selling...books, checkers, boards, doubling cubes, dice, etc. That is always fun. Maybe even some merch?! When will the "Blunder Blots" hats and tee's hit the market?? That would be cool. I woudl also love to see if you can convince a Grand Master play a beginner and give "beginner tips" along the way. To get into the mind of a grand master player...that would be cool and unique. I like the way you all converse with players, it's easy going and fun to follow along. Another video idea would be backgammon terminolgy...sloting, blots, splitting backcheckers, lovers leap, the golden point, bannana split, etc. Thanks for sharing about the Crisloids. I love your orange board, and your video convinced me to get one, exactly as you have it. I have never played on cork, but I am up for it. We are hard on our boards, always smoking cigars, drinking cocktails. Our boards need to be able to take a beating. A an easy board to wipe down or clean is key! LOL. Yall keep up the work. I am very impressed. Pack up, come to Louisiana...let's roll bones!

Hello! Thank you so much for the kind words! 😀 That's certainly the hope. Beginner friendly and helping to grow this game we've come to love. We're heading to the Viking Classic this weekend. I'm not sure if a vendor booth will be set up, but if there is I'll see what I can get for footage in that regard. For our own merch, we've thought about it and it's definitely on a list to do, haha. We weren't sure how much interest there would be, but thanks for mentioning it! As for the rest of your comment, we're on the same page, haha! I'd love to get some gameplay with a few grandmasters. In the meantime, I'm currently working on a video I did with Ben Friesen in preparation for the Viking Classic this weekend. He's a ranked master, which is really cool. We played a match and he walked me through errors and blunders I was making. The video will be around some of the ones I really liked, so stay tuned for that. Backgammon terminology is currently in the works too! I'm just working on the best way to deliver that in a friendly and not overload way. Cork is awesome! Very easy to clean. Sorry for the long comment, haha. I appreciate all your thanks and input. Cheers! 😀

Yes Crisloid is awesome. I have 3 of their boards. 2 of them are custom boards and the 3rd is a tabletop board. I love vintage looking games and Crisloid definitely have that in Spades. Especially when you get a set of Bakelite checkers that you get off of eBay or Etsy. Then pair them up with a modern Crisloid board. Wow what an amazing experience! Their Champion size board is the size I use the most for playing on. Smaller and lighter than the tournament board but big enough to enjoy without playing on a cheap Amazon special. Yes having Bakelite checkers on a modern Crisloid board is by far the best way to experience a Crisloid board.

@@blunderblots As for all 3 of my Crisloid boards. I like them equally. They have their own likes that the other ones don't. My 1st Crisloid was a custom Champion board. Black case with Red and White Legacy points. Black leather dice cups and a set of Bullseye Red and Butterscotch Bakelite checkers but now have smooth Bakelite checkers in same colors. My 2nd board was a custom tournament board. Barley case with Green and White points. Chestnut dice cups with Green and Butterscotch Fakelite checkers. I wanted to recreate a classic vintage board using modern day materials. My 3rd is a stock Champion board tabletop. Brown and White points. One Chestnut and one White dice cups. Brown and Butterscotch Bakelite smooth checkers. I also have a set of 3D printed Oreo checkers that I got from Etsy. I got the tabletop board mainly because the Bakelite checkers were thinner than what would fit in the checker wells of the Attaché board. Green is my favorite color. I really like the looks of the Green and Butterscotch Fakelite checkers. You can see my Crisloid boards at Holy Rollers Backgammon Club on meetup.com
