    Catherine Parr is usually shown as the "only wife" of Henry VIII to survive but actually Anne of Cleves faired much better. After her annulment from Henry Anne negotiated staying in England as his sister, was made rich and had freedom she never dreamed of growing up in a puritanical Protestant court. While Katherine Parr died from childbirth just a few years after Henry's death, Anne lived many happy years until she died of old age at the beginning of Elizabeth I reign.

    Anne Cleves died at 42, not really old age and about a year prior to Elizabeth becoming Queen, she died during the reign of Queen Mary i. While she lived well, she never remarried, unlike Catherine Parr, never had children, and while she died of natural causes, was only 42. Catherine of Aragon, the only wife older than Henry, by 6 years, had the longest life, passing at 50, it was just she being older died before Henry did, but then again being the Aunt of the most powerful ruler from the most powerful family in Europe, the Hapsburg King of Spain and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, she could not be harmed, at least physically.

    I completely agree, they should have worded it much better. Like if they want to tell the narrative from his perspective, which is what they were trying to do, they should have added something like “in his mind, he had been betrayed...” instead. He was clearly egotistical and self-absorbed and likely truly believed that these poor women betrayed him.

So, "survived, but not as long as Anne of Cleves" doesn't fit and doesn't make sense in the context of the ending of her relationship with Henry. Also, technically Catherine of Aragon LIVED the longest of all the queens. Anne just died later in the century.

    I think Katherine Part had the experience and maturity of Katharine of Aragon, the intelligence and spirit of Anne Boleyn but the common sense of Anne of Clever and the observation tactics of Jane Seymour. Her debated with the King were her slipping into Anne Boleyn territory, and she used her intelligence to get out of it and become a Jane Seymour type wife.

    Interesting. This documentary skips a rather well known story that Gardiner persuaded Henry to issue a warrant for the arrest of the Queen. However, it was dropped (by design or accident), and a loyal supporter of Catherine’s gave it to her. She was very distressed, and Henry heard her, went to her and comforted her. The next day Catherine and he had the chat, in which he tests her. After they made up Gardiner arrived to arrest the Queen, but was hunted away by Henry calling him a knave. (Mind you I have always wondered why Gardiner tried to go thru with the arrest when the warrant had been lost, and he saw Henry being friendly with the Queen). There is some speculation, that Henry engineered the whole incident to teach Catherine a lesson.

    Such an underrated character. Even Catherine Howard has more fans even though she's only a child with no interesting attributes. Catherine Parr on the other hand is an amazing woman. I never understood why she's not admired like Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, or Jane Seymour. She is intelligent and has a political figure just like Catherine. She shares similar values to Anne. And she acts obedient to keep her head just as Jane did. She's the combination of all the women Henry ever loved. I think he chose her as his final five because he felt guilty for all the things he did to his past wives. He made amends by marrying Catherine Parr. Also, it is known that Catherine of Aragon was the godmother of Catherine Parr and Parr was named after her. The connection between them and the fact that their character is so similar may indicate that Henry went through all those wives just to end up with one just like CoA. I think he considered CoA as his one true love and loved her more than anyone else.

    I like to think that Catherine of Aragon was his true and forever love. I reckon he became consumed by having a male heir, but if her son's had lived, I believe she would have remained queen permanently. Yes he had mistresses etc, but I do feel like he continued to look for her in each wife he took. Her not giving him a male heir was the only reason he had her removed - and not even killed. He did not even plot to have her killed somehow. He never had a son to truly succeed him as heir - the daughter of Catherine and Henry, Mary, was the ultimate heir after his death (and then the death of Edward). If he had perhaps accepted Mary as his heir and reformed to a woman ruling, rather than try to reform the entire church etc, things may have been better for him. I believe he lived with regret for the rest of his life in missing Catherine of Aragon 💜 just how I'd like to see it 🙂

Not even love from his people, or any from every one of his wives.... Bet his own court was happy he was gone. They could breathe a little. Til the next tyrant came on the throne. His daughter Mary, I know a Elizabeth had a temper also. But I rather have her as my queen than Mary.. I dont haven issue with catholic religion. just the people like Mary that make it seem as pure evil... like any other religion out there.

    No. She was the Queen Consort so she had some titles. However, she was not the Dowager, which implies the new monarch's mother, as she was not the mother of Edward VI, and though she was his step-mother, the Regents quickly took control of Edward as he was only 9,, and Catherine did not have any power over him. She did take into her home Elizabeth who was 13, Mary was 30 so she lived elsewhere. However, she quickly took up a relationship with Thomas Seymour and was remarried within a year. Within a few months she was pregnant, first time, and died as a result of childbirth, she was 36, about 21 month's after Henry died.

    I will comment something I kinda found on a different video but I will add something: So technically, most of us would know that Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard were cousins, right? Well, Thomas Seymour was actually Jane Seymour's Brother. And know we know that Catherine of Aragon is Catherine Parr's Godmother. Just in case some don't know, Anne Boleyn was Henry's 2nd wife and Katherine Howard was Henry's 5th wife and Jane Seymour was his 3rd wife and Catherine of Aragon was his 1st wife. Catherine Parr was his 6th wife. Edit: My sister was like "Lol, gardener's plan didn't work" XD

  • @beckyshell4649

    @beckyshell4649

    Another connection in the fam was that Thomas Seymour molested the young princess Elizabeth when she lived with him and her stepmother. He also tried to marry Queen Mary. The royals like to keep their bloodlines close. Only in this generation have the royal lines strayed from marrying their kin. Phillip and Elizabeth shared Queen Victoria as a great-grandmother. This would not be a big deal under normal situations, but the families have been inbreeding for so many generations. Charles and Dianna were distant cousins also. The rest of the current family seemed to marry the commoners.
