Thank you for this upload. Prince Philip such a handsome and charming man. I hope a producer will make a movie of Elizabeth and Philip, truly an awesome and lovely love story. God bless Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

I think the British keeps their monarchy because it is represents their heritage and national identity. It may also represent a sense of continuity (the British Monarchy has been in existence since I believe the 900's). It is comforting to some to have something that endures like that when all around you presently is so transitory.

As an American, I have silently questioned the absence of a King of England. I'm glad to finally get an understanding!

In an academic sense, the Duke was actually a British citizen by birth as a Protestant descendant of Sophia of Hanover, due to the Sophia Natuaralization Act 1705.

I googled it :) Technically, a king may also be a "king regnant" or a "king consort" - but this distinction is unusual and, for example, has been used only twice in the history of the British and its predecessor monarchies. In all current monarchies that allow for a Queen regnant to take the Throne, the husband of such Queen is not titled King, generally ranking as a prince, often with the style "Prince Consort".

The Duke of Edinburgh was born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark in Corfu on 10 June 1921.

I think a man only gets the title of King if he's actually the reigning monarch.

In Spain the husband of a "Queen regnant" can be a "King consort". For example, the husband of the Queen Isabel II of Spain was known as the king consort.

You don't understand it because you've never "lived" it, or perhaps know enough about it's "history" to appreciate what the monarchy & royal family represents for the British people. It's steeped in their country's overall history & time honored traditions. We as outsiders have no say so regarding how they should feel or how to view "their" Monarchy. It's really none of our business. As Americans our rejection of British monarchy rule had to do with "Tax" requirements, nothing more.

because a king always overpass in ranking to a queen that's why he can only hold the title of prince consort but never a king

A king and queen are of equal rank. The Queen could have given Prince Philip the Crown Matrimonial, which would have given him the rank of king. The last King Consort in these islands was Henry, Lord Darnley. He was a syphilitic bisexual philanderer who was murdered in a plot sanctioned by his wife, Mary, Queen of Scots.

As a rule of thumb, the wife of a king is a queen. However, the husband of a queen regnant is not automatically king consort in most monarchies.

That sounds like a good question to try and find the answer to.

Another example is Prince Henrik of Denmark, who is not styled King consort either.

Because he is not the monarch. His wife is. Traditionally wives take the titles of their husbands, so the consort of a male monarch is styled Queen (although in that case she isn't the monarch either). It doesn't work the same way the other way around....

Neither did the British government nor any of the Commonwealth governments. The fact is that at the age of 25 the said that she could marry anyone she wanted. It would have meant losing her Royal privilege and she chose that over love.

because he is not King although he is married to the Queen, in the United Kingdom, even you marry a Queen or King, you will never be King or Queen, just will be King or Queen those who inherit the Crown

Marie Trebilcock Then don't burn out your little brain trying to figure it out. As with so many things, there are those who see it, there are those who see it when they are told, and those who will never see it, no matter how many times they are told. Read a book. I don't have time to waste teaching you our history.
