    So even if the black plays 2...xc4 white can turn it in to the Catalian opening: Closed 3.g3 Nf6 4.Bg2 e6 and so on. (just wondering how to study all of names from the Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings since here in Finland the names are different than globally and even some chess sites that i shall not mention even give different kind of terminology for openings). Back to the point; this has happened lots of times when i try to play the Catalian opening and the Bg2 fianchetto can turn in to a disadvantage after a few moves.

    Thanks for the video. @8:06 what if Black king moves to f8 instead of capturing the bishop?

  • @ChessSensei

    @ChessSensei

    Жыл бұрын

    Great question! If Black's king moves to f8 instead of capturing the bishop, you have a couple of options. First, you can trade queens with 8. Qxd7 and then retreat the bishop. This would simplify the position and maintain your material advantage. Alternatively, you can retreat the queen immediately, for example, with 8. Qc2. This keeps the queens on the board and maintains your pressure on Black's position. Remember, Black can't capture your bishop on f7 immediately, due to the threat of Ne5 fork. Stockfish evaluates it as winning for White, with a +2 advantage. You are already a pawn up, and Black's king can't castle, leaving their rook stuck on h8. You also have full control over the light squares along the a2-g8 diagonal. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions or need further assistance. I'm here to help you!

    anybody have any input on what to do against 1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. e3 Be6? i suppose you just develop normally and the bishop blocks black's e pawn but it always throws me for a loop.

  • @ChessSensei

    @ChessSensei

    Жыл бұрын

    You're right! Be6 is not the most optimal move for Black in that position because like you said the e-pawn is blocked. There are several ways you can continue. The easiest option is to develop your pieces normally with moves like Nc3 or Nf3. If you want to recapture the pawn on c4 immediately, you can play Na3 followed by Nxc4. Another interesting idea is to play Nc3 first and then follow it up with Nf3 and Ng5, threatening to capture the bishop on e6 and double Black's pawns. If the bishop moves you can capture on c4 with your bishop, developing a piece and attacking f7.

    Very well explained Sir, step by step really 😊 🙏 but, I have a question... In 11:53 part of this video, what if black plays g6 instead of h6 move... Then, what should be white next moves after that ???

  • @ChessSensei

    @ChessSensei

    10 ай бұрын

    Good question! The computer doesn't like the move g6 because it weakens up the dark squares surrounding the Black's King. The easiest way to continue is just like normal with e3, developing our White bishop on f1 and castle. There is one super aggressive line that the computer likes which continues with: e3 and Bh6, followed by h4-h5 attacking the Black's kingside!
