Linda Ronstadt is the greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation.

Any generation.
In the news earlier this week, the City of San Francisco plans to celebrate Linda Ronstadt's 78th birthday by dedicating a special day in her name. "The city supervisors formalized the declaration on Tuesday, July 9, making Monday, July 15, officially 'Linda Ronstadt Day.'" (San Francisco Chronicle, July 8, 2024) The group of musicians Linda Ronstadt brought together for her eponymous third album included several future members of The Eagles -- Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon, Randy Meisner, and Don Henley. It was during the recording sessions for that album that they discovered how well they gelled together. For a treat from that record, check out "Rock Me on the Water", with Glenn Frey on guitar and Don Henley on drums, as they cover the Jackson Browne classic.

Well, they gelled musically but not personally. What a nightmare!

Wow, official Linda Ronstadt Day - that's dope! Wonder if there's anything going on for it? I'm here over in Oakland, might be worth checking out, thanks for the 411
The greatest female singer ever. She could sing ANYTHING. And she did.
Linda was one of the greatest female vocalist, thank you Biz
Linda could sing the instructions in an IKEA instruction manual and make it sound superb. The Eagles were once Linda's backup band

Don Henley suggested to Linda that she record Desperado because it was a good song but didn’t get good airplay and he thought she could make s hit out of it. She did and it was! Mick Jagger changed his song Tumbling Dice for her to sing and she recorded it and rocked his tune. He voice is the most powerful and beautiful at the same time! She will be 78 soon!!
Glenn Frey and Don Henley both credit Linda's cover of this song as being the catalyst that shot the Eagles to stardom. It appeared on the Eagles first album in 1973 and on Linda's fourth album, also in 1973. Her version got the most airplay and people got curious about the writers and their band.
I'm in tears. Thanks Linda, Thanks, Biz. Loved your reaction. I saw her only once, in 1971 and it was wonderful.
Been forever and day since I heard her cover. So beautiful.
QUEEN
The two Eagles’ names are pronounced as DON HEN LEE and GLEN FRY. Thank you. This is my favorite song that she sang. I saw her live onstage in the seventies at Pine Knob, an outdoor theater in Michigan. She could sing in tune with NO Instrumental help. What an incredible voice. It’s so sad that she can’t sing anymore.
incredible singer !
Seen Linda live numerous times. Always flawless! ♥
As far as I know, the main song writers in the Eagles were Don Henley and Glenn Frey. Timothy B. Schmidt wrote at least one and Joe Walsh wrote a few. The Eagles had working relationships with Jackson Browne and JD Souther, who both helped them write. In the original incarnation of the Eagles, I think Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner did some writing, as well.

Don Felder wrote Hotel California, co-writer at least. But D. Henley + Glen Frey were primary writers but all members contributed.

@@RichardSchaefer-zx9ig can't prove it but I heard that Henley and Frey put Henley's voice on the track in the studio behind Felder's back.
Great review. What a beautiful talent.
I became a sucker for great vocals after seeing her live in 1977.
I love this song and Linda's version is my favorite 🔥thanks for sharing this with us 👍
Greatly appreciate you coming back to Linda, who’s the definition of great vocals. If you’d like to view another great live performance from that same concert, try Someone To Lay Down Beside Me, with a great piano introduction by Don Grolnick.
Biz - thanks for reviewing Linda again. She is amazing live or studio. Try Linda singing Silver Threads and Golden Needles with the Eagles live. They all kill it! RK
Superb, blissful. I'm glad that S.F. will be celebrating her birthday.
She's one of my favorite singers. Her voice is awesome! Too bad she can't sing anymore. Linda, we miss hearing your beautiful voice! I have a lot of your vinyl record albums in my collection. I still play your best hits CD on my car. ❤❤❤❤
Linda singing the Rolling Stones "Tumbling Dice" live. Singing with Chuck Berry "Back in the U.S.A." live.
Thanks for doing this. I've said before and i'll say it again . . . She's one of those singers who is even better singing live. Other suggestions: Down So Low. La Chareada (Mariachi Vargas) Tumbling Dice. Poor Poor Pitiful Me. Ah, so many songs, so many great performances. ❤ also, live version of First Cut Is The Deepest is amazing
All thumbs up - I wished I got a lot more of them ! Linda Ronstadt is a gift for all musicians and of us all - what a fu..... great voice and of course musician - thanks for sharing. All the best from Hamburg / Germany
Big time childhood crush right there

Watch Hell Freezes over documentary about the Eagles. Don and Glen played with Linda before leaving to form the Eagles. Glen sang backup Bob Seger on his first album before leaving Detroit to LA and living with Jackson Brown.

I'm not a huge Eagles fan, but that documentary is fantastic. Highly recommended
Linda could really sing. Amazing. Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Man I have been waiting for you to react to this. This song makes me cry.
👍👍Awesome voice and talent. 🖖❤

Great choice. Fabulous song fabulously sung ❤
Watch her sing "Poor Wandering One" from the operetta "The Pirates of Penzance" , she appeared in the Broadway revival and also the film version as Mabel. It really highlights what she could do with her upper register. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aGyMmc16aM22esY.html
She can sing. Keep up the good reactions.
I humbly request Bonnie Raitt's version of "Dimming Of The Day." You won't be disappointed.

I second that
Just lovely.
I think it was glen Frye that said nobody paid any attention desperado until Linda did it
I would listen to Linda Ronstadt sing the dictionary. She is so talented. Even though this was an Eagles song, it wasn’t charting until Linda sang it, and it’s been a hit for the Eagles ever since. She has recorded in English and Spanish, in pop, rock, soul and marachi genres. She also actually founded the Eagles in a way because she gathered them as her backing band for a tour, introducing Don Henley and Glen Frey to each other and then encouraged them to go out and form their own band because they were so good together. As for the Eagles, they all were songwriters, though Henley and Frey wrote more than others.
From the same concert, try her version of The Rolling Stones "Tumbling Dice" which segues perfectly into "You're No Good" Really showcased the power of her voice
Glenn Fry & Don Henley were in her backup band. When they decided to form The Eagles, she did everything she could to help them. They even rehearsed at her house.
Linda is the first woman I recall having a crush on, around the time this video was made... I was 12. 😎

That reminds me of a line from the Animals song When I Was Young: "I met my first love at thirteen She was brown and I was pretty green"
The Eagles credit Linda with their formation. That's special on it's own.
I have a few requests for a live songs from Linda, Down So Low, a concert in Germany , also your no good from this same concert in Atlanta. She also does some live Spanish songs that blew me away!
Very nice version of the song...
Biz , Glen Frey - Don Henley & Don Felder all played for Linda from 1971 -73 before forming Eagles
Great review
Would like to see you react to the live performance with Linda Emmylou and Dolly doing The Sweetest Gift
The main songwriters in the Eagles were Don Henley, who happened to major in English and Glenn Frey, pronounced Fry. Their songwriting was off the chart. Listen to Hotel California's lyrics. Very hard to figure out exactly what was going on or what they're talking about, but it become abundantly clear that the entire song was about the California music industry. that attracted talented musicians back in the 70's mainly. Listen to it from that point of view and it becomes abundantly clear. Don slipped in a nod out to Steely Dan with the lyrics they stabbed it with their steely knives but they just cant kill the beast. Notice Don wrote steely, not the normal steel knives. Brilliant. Listen to the lyrics of One of These Nights. Incredible lyrics.
Linda was pretty much responsible for creating the Eagles. After the breakup of The Stone Pony's, she was putting together a new backup band for her up coming solo album. She hired Glen Fry and Don Henley and they worked for her for a couple of years. They told Linda they were thinking of forming their own band and she said she would help them. Through her then boyfriend, JD Souther, she got them together with Randy Meisner, then Bernie Leadon. They became the founding members of the Eagles. Listen to the YT video of Glen and Don tell about it when they inducted Linda into the RRHOF. She had another band member, her guitar player Andrew Gold, who wanted to try recording solo. She helped him with that, and he ended up writing 2 hits, Thank You For Being A Friend(Yes that one from the Golden Girls) and Lonely Boy.
All members of the Eagles wrote their and a few were associates Jackson Browne and J D Souther come to mind.
Pronounced as “Fry”. They were her backup band, so she always supported them.
Next please “Love Has no Pride”: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gqObzJKgcsW9fpM.html. Other talented singers have covered it, but Linda’s version is great. Oh, Don Henley stated that Desperado was not popular with their fans until Linda started singing it at her concerts. The they started ending concerts with it.

Love Has No Pride is my favorite from Linda but for some reason no one reacts to it. It's just as good as this.
I’m not sure if you have done a reaction of her live performance of “Blue Bayou”, gorgeous ❤️
Biz, now do a reaction to Linda covering (from the same concert) The Stones song, “Tumbling Dice.” (If you haven’t already) You really need to hear her rock out! Even Jagger said she made this one hers. Linda’s voice was so strong she could throw it to the back of any venue she chose. Heard her do it several times…. Btw, love your fam and all the choices. Just great music….
Tumbling Dice live!! (stones cover)
She had 5 platinum albums in a row

Actually 7 platinum albums in a row....Heart Like a Wheel, Prisoner in Disguise, Hasten Down the Wind, Simple Dreams, Living in the U.S.A, Mad Love, and a greatest hits album. First female singer to get 5 in a row....and ran it to seven.
Live....Down So Low
Linda Ronstadt, oh yeah... ✌️❤️🤟🥁
Frey and henley were the main writers but they all participated on different songs
Arguably Henley and Frey's best composition.
👑♦👑♥
Check out this live performance that shows a little of Linda's sweet personality. 'It Doesn't Matter Anymore" She re-arranged an old Buddy Holly tune to great affect kzread.info/dash/bejne/eZqBsNCTfJC_pbA.html
What about the Carpenters version of Desperado?😮😊
Listen to her sing with Mariachi Vargas! Mexican song, La Chariada really showcases her vocal range! I believe her live videos are better!
Eagles? all were song writers a whole bunch of people lived in a run down ranch home in Malibu More passed through most became stars
Desperado is a Country song...
She's awesome, but I do love Don Henley's version; somebody's got to stand up for him!
She’s amazing. Sadly, she had to retire since she has Parkinson’s disease & it affected her vocal cords.
Don and glen ,ane later Joe walsh.....
BLUE BAYOU blows this away, and that's not Rock.
There's only one Queen of Rock and Roll...TINA TURNER.
I love Linda...but, nobody does this song better than the Eagles! Linda sounds beautiful when she sings this but, when the Eagles do this song, you feel it down in your soul. You feel the pain of living the life of a desperado.
rather, the Eagles were involved with her
I don’t like the way she sings this live. Wish more people would do the studio version
No Linda's not the queen of rock, most of the time she's not rockin at all, more of a pop/country singer. If you want the real queen of rock choose between Pat Benitar and Heart.
Stole this from The Eagles......she sucks
