And that cutscene, is how you make a DAMN GOOD ANTAGONIST

And that's why you let the villain monologue! This whole expansion is so great. It's a masterclass in learning to sympathize with the antagonists. That one question: "Wouldn't you do the same?" That's the crux of a wonderful villain, right there.

Oh, when the story trailer dropped at fanfest that year when that line was dropped, the audience was in stunned silence. It launched a WHOLE campaign of theorycrafting and discussion. We didn't have the context for the line and it was a spoiler, but done in a way that just raised far more questions. Personally I thought it was a great way to use a spoiler to absolutely fuck with the playerbase. They did it intentionally to make us question ourselves and everything we thought we knew. The devs knew EXACTLY what they were doing

I think part of why it works is because while it is technically a spoiler, it was A. a theory that the fanbase had been fostering for years at this point already and B. such an insignificantly minor revelation compared to all the other things you learn in Shadowbringers that it ultimately is more of a red herring to what Shadowbringers is actually going to be about. Zodiark and Hydaelyn are, ironically, barely important to the plot of Shadowbringers - they're kind of incidental backdrop and knowing that they are primals doesn't change hardly anything

And this is amazingly good writing there..

Emet Selch is the greatest character in video game history. Unbelievably written.

There was similar story in Star Trek when two people were merged after using the teleporter. It was deemed an accident so the engineers were on the clock to reverse it. But during the wait, the merged person became self-aware and made friends along the way with the crew. When the engineers were able to solve the problem, the merged person refused to go on with the procedure. Telling the crew, it would be a death to it and reminding everyone that Federation forbids sending a person to death row. Ultimate, Captain had to make the decision to go with the procedure.

That's what makes him such a great villian. Who wouldn't do what he had? What they had? After his last words and he walked off i had to take a lot of time to come to terms they did what i prob would have done. Again, who wouldn't? Especially after seeing so many sacrificed to save a star. It certianly was a gut punch, esp playing ever since 1.0 and knowing the story up to that point just to have the rug yanked out from one's feet in terms of.. no.. you had the story wrong. Lol. So good.

I trust Emet-Selch (my enemy) more then most of my friends in my life lol.

Yes, the primal line was in the launch trailer, but it was being spoken by a character I absolutely didn't trust. I honestly thought it was a red herring when I heard it in the trailer. When I got to this part in the game, I was now more trusting of Emet, but still conflicted that he may be lying.

Through a mixture of both lack of self confidence and just general feelings of "nobody would want to watch them" I have unfortunately lost 3~ years worth of VODs, which devastates me more than anybody I can assure you 😥 but, I really do appreciate you taking the time to watch the VODs that *do* exist! I hope you can catch up in time for those patches!!
