I really enjoyed this game when I played it, the theme is so strong. The lack of theme in the jobs is a shame, they give their reasons on BGG - fingers crossed they might change it in a future edition.

This was my hidden gem for Essen. I really enjoy been able to choose what I want to be. I agree the jobs description is a pain but I just state what I am when I get it and run with that, so it's a minor nitpick.

i love it when your daughter or children get to be in the videos, i love children and work with them so i'm always very interested in what they have to say because sometimes their free spirited wisdom gives you a fresh point of view on things.i wish they appeared more often and more consistently in your reviews getting the chance to talk more.

One of the things that Tom specifically mentioned was that the generic names of the jobs took away from the otherwise immersive theme. As a quick update: as part of the Second Edition Kickstarter, the designers have indeed given each job a unique name (and, in fact, made the jobs two-sided so that you can choose which "Level 1 Science Job" you want).

VERY good to know. Thank you for saying this. That's something I instantly thought as "Would I be willing to mark my own jobs on the game? It would look bad, but more thematic". Glad I don't need to do that. I'll be on the lookout for that. I wish he compared this to CV which I really enjoy, but doesn't have enough different cards for playing the game over and over.

Rahdo, in his run through, compared this to CV, saying that they were both very good games and implemented the theme well, so it really came down to which set of mechanics you preferred: worker placement and card drafting, or Yahtzee-style dice rolling. (For me, the choice was clear.) Having received the game now, and played it several times, it really is an excellent game. The take on worker placement really makes you think and weigh your decisions, although the availability of the Rest action does provide an "out" if you're willing to give up the time for it. All in all, I couldn't be happier that I backed this game.

Two quotes got me in this video: 1) Tom in a pleasant voice "after every one dies..." and 2) "You can have two wives if you want! Although that doesn't seem that useful." 🤣🤣🤣 All kidding aside though, this game sounds like a fascinating concept that I'll have to try. Thanks for the laughs and info Dice Tower!

When I saw Rahdo's run through of this my reaction was basically "This is The Game Of Life done right," so glad that that seems to not just me who gave that first impression of it. Not one that I'm going to go out of my way to pick up, but one I'll probably grab at some point.

It's cool to see your kid get more confident as time goes on :) My first impression? I thought the game "board" looked really really really busy.

Apart from the Game of Life, there was another family-type game with the same theme, although I can't remember the name. You moved around a track, with various 'side-tracks' which were careers. You had three stats--love, money and one other--and you were trying to reach a certain amount in each.

That one brims with good report when you look at her reaction and the mechanisms. That said I absolutely hated Among the Stars, but I probably would not hate these mechanics. I hated City a Tycoon too. I like all versions of 7 Wonders.
