The voice in Frank's head is actually a demon named "Oliver" who's has a white skull for a face(which is where Frank subconsciously got the skull from) and he made a deal with Frank to keep the war going on forever. The only price was his family. This is shown in Punisher VOL 4 1998 ,issues 1-4(This is the first Marvel Knights series, please do a video on it).

It's actually "Olivier" that is actually the name of the demon which also has a human form named "Frank Costa" a mob boss responsible for killing Frank Castle's family in which it only happened since Frank Costa or Olivier is just collecting his payment for his agreement with Frank. And the payment is the life of Frank Castle's family.

There are theories out there that suggest that the voice in Frank's head is actually Ares, the god of war himself. When Frank basically allowed himself to just give in to the voice he became he's Herald. He's Avater of war, so to speak.

Yess do more, I loved The Punisher in Daredevil!!

I like how this story shows how much of a villian Frank is. Him sacrificing his general shows perfectly his flawed logic leading him to the idea that what he does is for the greater good when he is just as bad if not worse than the people he kills.

Rob, you pretty much got it right about Vietnam. Officers would get frag'd more than you'd think, but it was all a mess. In the words of a special forces captian, " we did everything to win the war but win the war" ( Vietnam the 10,000 day war)

Pretty much what Vietnam was, was a fruitless task. We put all our soldiers out there just because the other side ("good guys" of Vietnam) could supply us with something. "It's always over money son" is what my dad always says. We sacrificed so much for something we loss. So in a nutshell, that's the Vietnam war.

Watching this brings back memories of this and the entire Punisher Max series. Trying to tell friends how gritty and awesome that series man its just a comic series you have to read for yourself. Punisher vs Bullseye dynamic was crazy to say the least.

i love both charactes. but i always admire Rorschach more because unlike Frank Castle, Rorschach has no physical advantages like Frank in the comics. Rorschach doesnt have any military or combat experience like Frank. Rorschach is just a small guy.

I always thought Born would've been perfect for Marvel to do as an adult orientation animated film like DC's more recent pg-13 and R rated animated films.

Rob... ROB! If you do Punisher MAX you've got to do The Tyger. It's only a one-shot but it elaborates even further on the Punisher's origins by covering an event during Frank's childhood that, didn't make him Punisher proper , but planted the seed that would lead him on that road. And man it's fucking great. If you loved the monologues Ennis wrote in the Punisher, you're not going to be disapointed.

I'm willing to bet that Rob has already watched Avengers: Infinity War even though it's not even out yet

I have read that BORN for Punisher Comic but I never understood it well, thanks for clearing it up but it feels kind of creepy honestly knowing that becauae Frank said Yes it would be the outcome of his life.

No longer. Ever since Ennis' run he became a straight up Villain. Marvel's best in fact. It's naive to think of him as otherwise. Considering he has a higher bodycount than most of Marvel's Supervillains combined (in the thousands).

What I really like about Frank is that even tho he kills any bad person there is still lines he dosent cross and I love that

I have to disagree Rob. The best Punisher would've been Frank Grillo. If you have any doubts, his role in Purge: Anarchy showed his range. The badass nature of how he took out those people. And the ending, oh man, the ending when he wants to kill the guy. John is a good at cold crazy dudes but he muddles his lines to a grumble often.

The Devil? You mean Mephisto? Maybe, but his motivation is more about corruption, not destruction. In my own head canon, it was Ares, The God Of War, who offered Frank the deal. It would explain his miraculous recovery from damage, as well as his youthful longevity. Vietnam 1974 to today, he was born in 1950, so the most recent Punisher comic is about a 69 year old man who has been fighting for 45 years. Damn, he looks good for a senior citizen.

Do Punisher MAX!!

The Voice talking to him is probably Death personified ,plain and simple. And for the dedicated Garth Ennis reader, it would be even interpreted as the Voice being God himself which I find more accurate. But that is a conversation for another time. Your channel shows the love of the original material and it is great that you take one step further to dive into the psychology of our characters.What Aaron Johnson did with Punisher though, was a shameful act. He imitated the Garth Ennis writing but transformed Punisher to a depressed figure, what Marvel's suits wanted to make out of him in the end,the same suits who run things in the Barracuda story arc, all that arrogance and misplaced pride derived from the most moisty corners of the human heart.The suits offered him a shameful and uneven death at the hands of the Kingpin who was also lamely written. But that is a story for another day. It is a shame they forced Frank Castle's death but what is more shameful is image of frank having written things such as "I AM SORRY" with his on blood on the wall of his old family home. I have a dream of Garth Ennis returning to finish the Punisher Max as it should have been (although it is even more stupid the fact that the Punisher in the MAX universe dies two times, one in the PUNISHER THE END STORY ARC and the other in the Aaron Conclusive Punisher Max story arc with the worst realistic depictions of Bullseye , Electra and Kingpin to ever set foot in the marvel universe, like a bad scripted low budget superhoero movie directed by someone who his last project was to direct schoolplays. Anyway, RIP Steve Dillon, even if you are not around anywhere in this video ...RIP

I think you did an excellent job with this summary and synopsis. However, I can not help but point out a section of "Punisher: Born" that you skipped over which I found to be invaluable to the story and the themes and messages it evoked, and that is the opening narrative to the final chapter "The Last Day" : “There is a Great Beast loose in the world of men. It awoke in dark times to fight a terrible enemy. It stormed through Europe, across the Pacific, and crushed the evil it found there underfoot. But when it was victorious, when the crooked cross and the rising sun were done with, the Great Beast’s keepers found that it would not go back to sleep. The Beast has many heads, and on its heads are written names: Lockheed. Bell. Monsanto. Dow. Grumman. Colt. And many more. And they are very, very hungry. So the Great Beast must be fed: and every generation our country goes to war to do just that. A war for war’s sake, usually. And one that could have been avoided. But there must be blood, in extraordinary quantities, and whether it is foreign or American is of no consequence at all. And so, today, at Firebase Valley Forge, our turn has finally arrived. Today is the day we feed the Beast.” This small segment is what I believe to be the crucial piece to one of the novel's biggest questions: Who/what exactly is the mysterious disembodied voice that talks to Frank? Well, it just seems for too logical to conclude that the voice is the voice of this Great Beast. This Great Beast is of course an analogy for the gargantuan profit machine that is the US Military Industrial Complex. This entity was one of the primary motivators and enablers for the Vietnam conflict because its owners knew it was an opportunity to rake in immense profits for themselves, and they make sure that this vicious cycle of making money off bloodshed NEVER stops for the sake of maintaining their businesses. This is something that Frank Castle touches up on in the Punisher comic "In the Beginning" when he turns down the offer Micro gives him to work for the CIA to hunt down individuals the government deems as "terrorists": "Fighting for the people who run the world gets you stabbed in the back. You fight the wars they start and feed. You kill the monsters they create. You die from handling depleted uranium while they get rich on oil. I'm not going back to war so Colt can sell another million M-16s. I had enough of that in Vietnam."

Every person Castle killed from that moment would have travelled to a portion of hell where his army could amass. To increase his numbers further he had Castle’s family murdered by the mob as this would have led him to seek revenge as the Punisher. So apparently this demon was kicked out of hell and wanted revenge so he made castle into an even deadlier killing machine to amass souls in hell for his army.
