For a more complete idea of how characterisation works, I'd recommend Style as Characterisation in Jean Rhys’ Novels by Kathleen Wheeler. It's a dense read but it was the first book I read that related style and characterisation through prose, rather than in isolation of each other.

I didn't initially realise the importance of food within the series, and now that you point out it's importance in characterizing the characters onscreen makes me want to re-watch the series again. I'm honestly surprised by this and I'm hoping that Season 2 will continue this trend of food because it is a brilliant tool to build characters, especially when the show runners intend on bringing new characters into the fray in the The Punisher series. I'd even go as to say a very underutilized tool in media, and I hope to see more of it because there is so much potential in building up characters in this way.

Just came here from watching Punisher season 1 and finishing it and this is something I've never thought of before but when you describe it in words it's something I'll be way more aware of in future. Excellent video, thank you for drawing our attention and extremely engaging. Good job man, keep it up! Looking forward to future videos, would love to see something about Ghost in Power, or any of that characters in that show, or even Will in Stranger Things! Keep doing your thing :)

My favorite use of food might be in pulp fiction.

You must have had too many Big Kahuna Burgers if you're making such a shitty-ass statement.

I agree. Food and meals (with and without people) are synonymous with humanity. Like exemplified here, a writer can use this to his/her advantage. Nice video and great insights!

I don't think that Bear Grylls eating some grose buggs in the jungle is very applicable in this, but somehow that was the first thing a thought of haha
