Fabulous game, both players in full flow. Lots of hold and feints for the technophiles amongst us, and another demonstration of Makin’s superb level of fitness. Only now he seems to be delivering as much finesse as endurance and this is making the difference

Loving this new Makin... he's like a goddamn UFC fighter that plays squash.

Was great to see Makin relying on accurate hitting, rather than the usual super athleticism (although that also helped him out a few times). One of the best performances I've seen from him.

Great to see Joel looking to win rallies, wonderful to watch.

This is a new Makin! Exciting to where Makin can go if he continues to actually kill the ball when he can

Makin has gotten better simply by being more unpredictable. Used to like playing games of attrition, long hitting and rallies. Now mixed in some boasts and short drops and his game has improved drastically.

Best I've ever seen Makin play. Much more variety in his shots, to complement his amazing athleticism, fitness and discipline.

Joel's always had the speed and fitness but now he's (finally) added deception and hold to his game. That is a lethal combination as anyone who watched Jonathan Power in the past would attest. So happy for him.

Makin has about 10% of Power's holds and deception. Superior fitness and unshakable mental strength, absolutely.

Makin is almost unplayable. He's a defensive robot with speed and power. The shot maker punisher. His attack game is not his natural game. But it's actually pretty good as well. This guy is a monster

He's well built and He has developed his blocking game well around his frame. When will the governing body clean this up?

@@martelbaek6660 his blocking isn't anywhere near shorbagy bros or asal. It's not really a thing. If it were I would expect the ref to warn him.

@@dslechip true about the comparison with shorbagy and asal. That points to the problem even further. Blocking subtle or not makes the game far less enjoyable. Where is Peter Nicol of this era?

@@martelbaek6660 You are throwing shade on one of the fairest players on tour. His matches are almost without exception some of the cleanest, fairest, most free-flowing matches you can find anywhere, except when he plays someone like Asal, who rarely plays a clean match no matter who he plays. Shame on you, buddy. I guess it makes you feel better about yourself somehow, for denigrating a fine, honest player.

I don't like these best of 3 tournaments - especially at this level - where momentum can swing wildly.

Makin's developed short game is showing dividends with his already elite fitness, Coll 2.0?

He's also more explosive than coll. He is more powerful and faster. Imo.

@@dslechip But Coll showed in the final that he is more precise, economical, and serene, at least after the first game was played.
